    Quote

Eight and half years. They bet we wouldn't last 2 weeks. However it is with great sadness we announce that Mamma Jammas last night will be Saturday 9th February. Through many ups, and the odd down, we've all persevered, however everything must eventually give way to time and the changing of tastes. We thank you all for your custom, your loyalty and most of all your company. Thank you to every member of staff we've ever had, for your endeavours and your hard work. Our main aim has always been, and will continue to be, a good night out. So looking forward to the next phase we wish you all well and hopefully you'll join us at some point on the next part of our journey.

Good luck to them with the next phase of their journey!

    A new beginning awaits..

    residents parking

    locallady
    By locallady,

Today a leaflet came through the door from Lib Dems. Says agreement regarding residents' parking permits could not be reached with residents of various roads. One of which was Belmont Court. It may not be common knowledge, but Belmont Court is privately owned by owners of properties in Belmont Court and is maintained by them, not the Council. Surely the Council have no rights in deciding parking there?

Application to convert former Chadds building into flats

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

A planning application has now been submitted for a proposed conversion of retail units into 17 dwelling flats.

Former Chadds building Commercial Street Hereford.

The proposal seeks planning permission for the residential development of 17no. apartments, over 3 floors, with a new dedicated ground floor entrance, together with the rationalisation of the existing ground floor retail unit.

    The Proposal

Although not of high architectural significance the character of the existing buildings is extremely well suited to its location. Rather than demolish and replace the buildings therefore a strategy has been adopted to convert and refurbish the existing property to contribute to the long term desire to revitalise of the area.

The lack of retail or commercial interest in the building over a number of years confirms that it is no longer suitable for similar use on its existing scale. Realistically this is the case for much of Commercial Street. Failure to address this would see the building continue to be unoccupied for a prolonged period of time further negatively impacting on the character of the area.
To assist in the re-invigoration the proposals aim to provide 17 self-contained apartments within the upper 3 storeys of the building. In effect this will bring people to the heart of the area facilitating increased footfall to the benefit of local business and enterprises. Additionally it may allow the ground floor retail element of the existing property to potentially be offered as smaller scale units more suited the location making this far more attractive to potential retail tenants and business owners ultimately making it increasingly likely that this will help spur occupancy and therefore start to again create a vibrancy to the street.

The new proposals will include the provision of two new dedicated entrances off Union Street to serve the residential apartments. The most northerly existing ground floor entrance along Commercial Street will also be utilised likewise. These will provide direct access to stairs which lead to the upper floors of the building.
The Apartments will be distributed as follows:

    First Floor
    Second Floor
    Third Floor
    - 6no one bedroom apartments. - 2no two bedroom apartments - 4no one bedroom apartments. - 3no two bedroom apartments - 1no one bedroom apartments. - 1no two bedroom apartments
Each apartment will also contain a living dining kitchen together with a bathroom. All residencies will be of contemporary design and be of high quality standard and finish. New replacement windows will be provided to all existing openings to ensure they meet current regulation performance requirements. Two new window openings will be created for one apartment at second floor level but neither of these will be street facing. New Velux windows will also be provided to habitable rooms at third floor level. All dwellings are designed to comply with DCLG space standards.

The Ground Floor will be largely otherwise unaltered until such time an interested purchaser or tenant is attracted to develop the reduced size units. - Planning application P173885/F

Could fewer bins mean less litter?

    megilleland
    By megilleland,

More rubbish from the council and BB trying to do less again, but continually pocketing the cash. I sent a request concerning land ownership of a grass verge on the 9th October 2018 followed by two reminders and I am still waiting for a reply. Every Sunday morning for one hour I fill two bins of litter found lying in the street, shoved in hedges and dog poo chucked up in trees. I have yet to see anyone else living in the area do a litter pick and we have three council bins to use. Complete folly to take any of these away and you don't need consultants and studies to tell you the obvious.

    Quote

    BBC H&W local radio - 13th December 2018

Littering and fly-tipping could be reduced by cutting the number of litter bins, researchers who worked with Herefordshire Council have concluded.

Balfour Beatty Living Places worked with 10 local authorities on the study and believe that by removing bins, people are encouraged to "take responsibility for their waste" and take it home or dispose of it correctly.

Herefordshire Council said the results of the research needed further study, but "it is clear that behavioural change is necessary to reduce littering and fly-tipping; not to just simply increase the number of bins on our streets".

    For information ...

The Defence Medical Welfare Service's welfare officers in Herefordshire are working closely with health professionals to provide tailored physical and mental health support to the aged veteran community in times of need, helping to reduce lengthy hospital stays and ease pressure on NHS staff.

The Veteran or a member of his family / friend  only have to contact one of the  many Armed Forces / Veterans Charities  for help , assistance ,guidance etc , that will start the ball rolling  and if entitled all that's asked for will be given .......only condition is that it's NEEDS not WANTS !

I am happy for anybody seeking guidance to pm me .....

Housing and employment site options - Hereford Area Plan consultation

The Herefordshire Local Plan Core Strategy, adopted in 2015, sets out an overall framework for the scale and location of new development across the county. The Hereford Area Plan (HAP) will set out detailed proposals to ensure the delivery of the targets for the city in the adopted Core Strategy. It will include policies and proposals for growth in the historic city of Hereford including specific proposals for housing, employment and urban regeneration. In doing so, the plan must also protect and enhance its attractive built and natural environment, providing for its current and future community needs.

    Housing and employment site options

Identifying and delivering new housing and employment land is a key policy area that the HAP must deliver. The Core Strategy identifies four strategic sites for housing and employment land at Three Elms, Holmer West, Lower Bullingham and the city centre area. These sites will account for a significant proportion of the city’s housing growth target for the plan period. It is the task of the HAP to identify further deliverable site allocations to aid the delivery of the remainder of the target.

Work has been carried out to prepare potential site options for the delivery of housing and employment growth in Hereford City and to help inform the preparation of the HAP.

There are several ways you can view the potential site options for housing and employment sites in the Hereford Area Plan before letting us know your views.

    Cllr Polly Andrews Talking Rubbish!

    Hereford Voice
    By Hereford Voice,

County Councillor for Widemarsh Polly Andrews in her recent new letter has criticised the fantastic work achieved by the City Council in providing a memorial bench sited at the recently restored War Memorial on Widemarsh Common.

How anyone in her position can possibly justify complaining about a beautiful bench? Which is a place for contemplation of our lost heroes during the two World Wars.

We visited the memorial shortly after Armistice Day to see the recently added names from World War II and took these fabulous photographs in the Autumn sunshine and as you can clearly see there is no litter in site.
