Duck Pond Clean Up Phase 2
Well I have some good news :)
I have managed to secure funding to buy some decent Hammerite paint for the fence and aerating pumps for the pond.
I will have a chat with the other guys involved and we will agree another day here to finish off what we started.
Chadds has been sold
Hereford Duck Pond Clean Up
A few months ago we were walking past the duck pond and noticed how dirty and full of algae it had become and I commented at the time on how it had deteriorated over the years. A few days later I was invited to join a new Facebook group that had only recently been set up by local chap Keith Marston called 'The Duck Pond Hereford clean up' and I thought what a great idea, he asked me if I would help him move this idea forward using Hereford Voice as the platform. I joined the group immediately and said that Hereford Voice would help out and publicise this idea as much as possible. I have also contacted Cllr Jim Kenyon and he is also going to do what he can to raise awareness.
I took this photograph today, the pond is absolutely covered in green algae, a lot of this is because people are feeding these ducks with bread, most of us think this is kind but in reality, bread can makes ducks ill and certainly does not contain the right calories and nutrition to keep ducks warm during the winter months. Rotting bread pollutes the water and encourages bad surface algae which kill the fish and causes diseases in ducks as well making the water smell.
I also thought long term could we have a food vending machine like the one in the photo below installed and the proceeds from any profits made to go towards the maintenance of the duck pond...
Hereford Labyrinth
The Hereford Labyrinth has been given the go ahead to be installed on the Bishop's Meadows.
Hereford Times article:
A LABYRINTH inspired by part of the most famous map in history is to be installed on Hereford's Bishop's Meadow after the project got the go-ahead.Work is set to get under way on the scheme this week. When complete, the labyrinth – made up of a single, convoluted path which has a number of reversals of direction and eventually leads to the centre – will be a permanent installation measuring 20m in diameter. It is based on a drawing of a tiny labyrinth on the island of Crete, seen on the medieval Mappa Mundi which is housed at Hereford Cathedral.Following a successful Crowdfunding campaign, project organisers were waiting to hear whether they had been granted a licence from Herefordshire Council – and approval finally came last week.Mike Booth, from the South Wye Development Trust, which has been leading the project, said: "I am so pleased that it's all going ahead."Work started on Monday and we are now looking for volunteers to help with the installation this weekend."After initial work, it will then be left through the winter to settle before opening next spring. It is hoped that the labyrinth will provide space for fun, exercise, peace and contemplation and the project has received generous financial support from Hereford City Council, the Severn Waste Environmental Fund, the Seven Helpers Trust and the Rowlands Trust.
Anyone available to help work on the installation this weekend should email enquiries@herefordlabyrinth.co.uk
Hereford Library 31 Broad St Project On Hold
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
'PROJECT ON HOLD'
Hereford 21st September 2017: Members of the Hereford Library Users Group and the many supporters of the 31 Broad Street project deeply regret that the work on the '31 Broad Street Project' has had to be put on hold due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Herefordshire Council, together with the Museum Support group, have chosen to go ahead with a consultancy project into the future of the museum service, which cuts across the next stages in the work of the 31 Broad Street group.
The project to re-imagine and redevelop the building on Broad Street has always been predicated on including both the Library and Museum. Regrettably this will mean that it will not be possible to meet the deadline set by the Cabinet of the Council for the 31 Broad Street team to come back with worked up plans and a satisfactory business plan by May 2018. Nor is it possible to raise any further funds from grants or charitable donations to support its work due to the uncertainty that has been created by the museum project.
Les Watson, the chair of HLUG and the project leader for 31 Broad Street says “The 31 Broad Street group has worked very hard over the past 14 months, with consultancy support, to establish that it is feasible, and affordable to develop the Library and Museum building on Broad Street and that people want this to happen. For the Council to initiate a project that will explore alternative futures for the Museum at this stage completely undermines this work and makes a mockery of the considerable effort expended by the volunteers involved."
Gelpack Closure...

Trying to find a private carer for my Dad
Hello, I hope this is appropriate for the site I'm new here!
I'm looking for a private carer who could look after my Dad at home (near Pembridge). He's 85 and has Parkinsons, and he's a gracious polite quiet man. His current carer leaves this weekend and we're very keen to find someone asap.
Please contact me if you think you can help, or if you know of anyone.
Thanks!
Adam
Seated Exercise for Elderly/Disabled
Hi Everyone, my name's Rachel and I'm a fitness instructor from Ledbury. Apart from my evening classes I also visit care homes and assisted living facilities in and around Ledbury, Malvern and Ross teaching Seated Zumba Gold, which is immensely fun and has lots of benefits. These classes are so popular that I'm looking to expand in to Hereford and I'm wondering if there are any facilities in and around the city that would benefit from this?
I offer a free 30 minute demo so you can decide if it's for you or not (but out of the 10 places I have given demonstrations, only 1 decided it wasn't for them - every other one booked regular sessions!)
Please contact me on 07759 461839 or email rachelabbey@live.co.uk if you are interested in booking a demo.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Extra Money Needed To Complete Blueschool House
The Council will seek approval for extra money to complete Blueschool House, they are only a £1million pound short! Yes a £1million pound, so where will they find this extra money? Because apparently we do not have any due to cut backs, not even enough money to kill the cities weeds. Cllr Chris Chappell advises us all to stop moaning and remove them ourselves!
See Aylestone Voice original topic here
According to the Council website Herefordshire Council will achieve a saving of over £1million over the next ten years by investing in Blueschool House, receiving rental income from DWP and saving on property costs for Franklin House. They will spend this now on the overspend, great savings eh!
QuoteQuote from the Hereford Times - COUNCILLORS will be asked to approve an overspend of almost £1m on refurbishing a council building.
At today's meeting, Herefordshire Council's cabinet will be asked to approve an increase in capital expenditure to complete the building work at Blueschool House in Blueschool Street, Hereford. The work is ongoing to complete the joint customer services hub, which will include the council's central customer services team, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Jobcentre Plus and housing services. When councillors first approved the project they were told it would cost £950,000, with £250,000 being provided by the council, but the project estimate is now at £1.92m, an extra £970,000.The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has contributed £400,000 to the project, while The Homes and Communities Agency has contributed £300,000.Today, cabinet is being asked to approve £50,000 to be allocated from the ICT revenue reserve to provide sufficient ICT equipment at Blueschool House; £200,000 to be allocated from the earmarked economy, communities and corporate revenue reserve to support the increased costs; and having regard to the continued revenue benefits identified in the revised business case, a further £720,000 to be approved to deliver a joint customer services hub at Blueschool House, bringing the total estimated cost to £1.92m
It was published on the Council website at the end of July that Blueschool House will open on schedule in September
Another Attack In London
6 dead so far and 30 injured. 3 terrorists shot dead by police.
Another attack! Do not let them tell you we stand united. Do not let them tell you we carry on as normal. Sorry but this is getting stupid, time to arm all our police, I cannot find an argument for not doing this to protect not only themselves but the British public.
How long will it be before the general public start arming themselves?
Hereford Traffic
Traffic westbound today has been a total nightmare - Ledbury Road into town - I gave up this morning after moving 200 yards in 20 minutes and tried again this afternoon. For some reason the right turn into Widemarsh Street has been shut and this seemed to be the cause of it. Incredible that traffic continues to be balanced on such a knife edge. Obviously the traffic lights weren't re-sequenced to take into account the closure. The cost to business and the environmental pollution is mind boggling, but, as ever, the Plough Lane pen pushers were safely ensconced in meetings, happy that they will be paid handsomely no matter how badly they do their jobs.
Hereford Housing Planning for 77 Apts at Former Council Offices
Hereford Housing have submitted a planning application to build 77 apartments on the site of the former council offices in Bath Street Hereford.
Re-development of former council offices at Bath Street, Hereford including change of use from B1 - Business to C3 - Dwellinghouses to provide a total of 77No. apartments (comprising 1 & 2 bed apartments). Re-development includes partial demolition of existing buildings (as indicated on submitted drawings), conversion of remaining elements, extensions to existing and also new build to provide residential accommodation and associated landscaping, drainage, parking and ancillary buildings.
Herefordshire Housing wants to build the one and two bed apartments- 49 would be available for private rent and 28 would be social rent.
See complete application here
Personally, I think this is a great idea and I hope the bods at the planning office see sense and approve this development.
A University for Hereford
Unless I have missed something, there does not appear to have been much mention on HV of the new University project.
This project is quite possibly the most positive news the city has had in decades. As Herefordshire is one of only three counties without a University, the initiative is government-backed and will happen! This opens up the prospect of thousands of new students and teaching staff coming to Hereford, boosting spending and stimulating the local economy.
More excitingly, the University plans to take up many of the redundant buildings in the city centre and use them as teaching spaces. So, we could see new life breathed into Maylords Orchards; Chadds; the old Odeon site etc etc.
Please back the new University project - it's great news for Hereford!
Hereford Food Hygiene Standards
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland helps consumers choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, takeaways and food shops.
Ratings and data taken on 01 July 2017 from both Scores On The Doors and the Food Standards Agency
Chinese | Indian | Kebab | Thai restaurants and take-aways with their hygiene ratings of 5 Very Good, 4 Good and 3 Generally Satisfactory:
Hereford's Top Rated Below:
Chinese | Indian | Kebab | Thai restaurants and take-aways with their hygiene ratings of 2 Improvement Necessary or 1 Major Improvement Necessary
Hereford's Worst Rated Below:
Graham Powell
I have known for several weeks about this and it may not be news to any of you guys but here goes.
Two points I will make at this stage.
Firstly I truly believe it was a great shame that Graham P did not manage to knock Johnson off his throne.
Secondly Indies and IOC please this time do not try to compete talk and think carefully how you are go to play this. If you 2 compete we will end up with another Con in on the Ward. Get the strategy right this time!!
Local Election
I recently received a Herefordshire Council poll card enabling me to vote for a councillor to represent my parish on the 7th. September.
Can anyone tell me how I can find out which parish I live in, who are campaigning to be elected and reasons I should vote for them?
I have asked many of my neighbours but none seem any better advised than me.
