    Hereford Festival

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

What we need in Hereford is our very own Hereford Festival with local ales and cider.

    HF.jpg

An annual weekend starting Saturday 12 noon ending Sunday 5pm as an example. The idea would be to use existing local pubs each would have a live band at various time slots throughout the weekend, food could be available, burgers, hot dogs, curries etc.  We could explore having a bus service running between the various pubs at 20-30 minute intervals. Something similar to festivals in other towns. We need to get Hereford as an annual venue for a great festival.

A printed programme with advertisers also listing all the performance times of bands, singers etc and lists of local ales and ciders would be available for £2 or £3 per copy.

Come on people, give me your ides's and let's get our very own Hereford Festival and make our city the place to be next summer!

    Hunderton Bridge CCTV Installation Begins

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Finally, we have some good news following on from our campaign for CCTC on the GWW.

Installation work for the new CCTV on the Hunderton Bridge has begun. A tree to the one side has been removed, I assume to give a better view but a lot more clearing up needs to be done.

There are so many overgrown trees and bushes, there is almost a canopy in some parts making it dark during daylight hours.

Dead Lights = Live Traffic (Video)

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Traffic is flowing perfectly this morning coming into Hereford on the A449 Belmont Road, guess why? The traffic lights are out! Which proves the point of our campaign.

    br1.jpg

I was interviewed live on BBC Hereford and Worcester again this morning as they are running a feature on this whole culture of traffic lights and the problems they can cause in some towns and cities.

See the pictures and movie that I took at 9am this morning.

Redevelopment Of High Town Fire Damaged Building

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Herefordshire Council met with representatives of the owners of the fire damaged buildings in High Town, Hereford on Thursday 1 October and is encouraged by their willingness to facilitate a sale to enable the site to be redeveloped.

The council can confirm that Hereford based architect Hook Mason Ltd has now been instructed to seek pre-application advice from the council’s planning service to obtain a more marketable development with the aim of selling the property and bringing the buildings back into use as soon as possible.

    Economic Migrants

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

We have just come back from our holiday on Corfu. We have visited the same island and used the same hotel for years and during our trips we have obviously got to know the owners and staff very well. During a discussion recently, I asked if the current migrant situation had effected Corfu at all as I know many migrants had arrived in Kos. I was informed that the only people that normally attempt to go to Corfu are usually people from the neighbouring country of Albania.

I was then asked, if I remembered one of the guys from the animation team when we were there previously, I asked which guy, to which I was informed of his name. We remembered this chap, so the conversation continued, I was told that he was there on summer season work permit from Ghana but failed to turn up to work a few months ago and just disappeared. The owner was later informed that this chap had been talking on his mobile with other people he had been in touch with in Athens for sometime and they told him to get to Athens as soon as possible and join all of the other migrants. He apparently destroyed his passport and is now in Germany along with many others!  This was also confirmed by another member of the animation team that he had kept in touch with and has encouraged to do the same thing.

How many other people have done this I wonder?

This does not help the plight of genuine refugees and adds further doubt to those countries reluctant to take in these people, especially if they have no passports or documents.

    Fair Play To Balfour Beatty

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Well I will be the first to put up my hand and say that BB have done a fantastic job of clearing the overgrown bushes in Glastonbury Close once and for all.

I spoke with the guys doing the work just before 8am on Friday morning and after a chat they agreed that just a trim was obviously not going to be enough and if you going to do a job at least do it right! This teams whole attitude was spot on to be fair and now we can see around the corner again.

    P1030088.png

I believe in giving credit where credit is due and to be honest I cannot fault these guy's, 100% better than it has been for many years. Thanks must also go to CVP for taking my complaint to BB and getting this job listed.

    Well done everyone!

    Belmont Haywood Country Park

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

I have just read this article in the HT.

    HP.jpg

BELMONT Haywood Country Park, bordering the city on the edge of Newton Farm, now has a real presence thanks to a grant from Herefordshire Housing Limited (HHL).

Erected in late September by Country Park Supporters (CPS), the park has three signs showing people they are entering the 11 acre site. One points the way from the car park off Waterfield Road, Newton Farm, one is situated on the brow of the hill at Newton Meadows and one is sited off Sycamore/Cedar Avenue by the ancient oak tree below the children's play area and the Belmont Pools.

The oak signs, supplied by Herefordshire based Walford Timber Ltd, will now put the park firmly on the map for those people living in the South Wye area and beyond.

Phil Edwards, chairman of the CPS said, "The park is now looking good thanks to the work the CPS volunteers do with equipment bought from previous grants, and we have been very lucky again in getting funding from HHL to help promote the park with these signs. A small group of our volunteers worked hard installing the signs so that the park can be identified as the lovely place it is.

The signs help give the park 'status' that will encourage people to visit it for enjoyment such as walking, cycling and ball games - as well as helping to promote health and wellbeing by being in the fresh air surrounded by nature. Such an amenity should be celebrated and used by as many people as possible - it has something for people of all ages and abilities and a perfect place for a picnic. People can now see that Newton Farm is not 'just a housing estate' but a community surrounded by beautiful open spaces."

The CPS won second place in the Hereford City Council Community Achievement Awards competition in May, plus first place in the Hereford in Bloom (HiB) Community Open Space Project. An oak tree awarded as the prize by the HiB Group will be planted by volunteers on receipt of the tree in October.

CPS is always looking for volunteers and funding to help to keep the park tidy. Anyone wishing to join the volunteer group or donate funds should contact the CPS secretary, Bobbie Edwards - 01432 350688/bobbieann@talktalk.net

I see the Council are running a survey on the Markets in Hereford http://newsroom.herefordshire.gov.uk/2015/september/local-views-and-new-traders-wanted-for-hereford%E2%80%99s-outdoor-markets.aspx

Rarely shop at them myself but the streets look to be quite busy whenever I visit on a Weds or a Sat.

Relaxation Of Hot Food License In Hereford...

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Well I have been campaigning for a 'relaxation' in the way hot food licenses have been restricted to no later than 1.30am in Hereford for a long time, but today I have been given some really really encouraging news!

Fancy a curry after a night out in your local nightclub at 2am? Well now you may be able too...

    Indian.jpg

I have had a very interesting conversation with a good friend of mine and a very reliable source  this afternoon, who informs me that the previous licensing issues with regard to hot food are being relaxed and that positive changes are a foot.

From my understanding, any existing restaurant/pub/club can now apply for a late license and providing they can prove that they will have no impact on CIZ or increase criminal activity because they are staying open later there is a good chance that permission will be granted or rather no objections will come from the police etc..

The applicant may need to apply initially for a Temporary Event Licence in the interim but if after a period of say a few months there is no significant increase in crime, there should be no real reason for the council or police to challenge their application.

I have never understood why some of these food establishments have been prevented from still offering a home delivery service after 1.30 but that's by the by now.

So if you or anyone you knows has a take away, restaurant, pub or club get them to apply for a late licence if they so desire and lets see whats happens.

It would be interesting to see what happens if McDonalds in town re-apply now.
