ragwert Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 The traffic lights at the Edgar St jcn with Newmarket roundabout are on green for 9 seconds, four seconds less than before they were upgraded. It looks to me that the SCOOT system is simply not working again.
twowheelsgood Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 The lights at Commercial Sq seem to have gone a bit odd today - I've been through that junction several times today westbound, and vehicles were still pouring in from Commercial St when they were on green for me (I know this junction is notorious for red light jumpers and yellow box huggers, but this was ridiculous).
Colin James Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 This scoot system has NEVER worked!
megilleland Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Financial figures from September 2013 contracts register. Telent Traffic signal Maintenance from 01/01/2010 to 31/03/2011 £32,000 Estimated whole contract value SCOOT traffic management system from 01/01/2010 to 31/03/2012 £22,000 Estimated whole contract value Both contracts appear to have expired over a year ago, maybe that's why the lights aren't working!

It's not worked for 10 years
Biomech Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Given the history of contract costs, that seem's excessively low for this council. They spend more than that on a website!
twowheelsgood Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 If we've been paying £50k a year for something that hasn't worked for 10 years, then its excessively high!
Biomech Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 As apposed to the £385,000 they were paying Balfour PER WEEK before they even started work?
ragwert Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 If we've been paying £50k a year for something that hasn't worked for 10 years, then its excessively high! I have sent an e-mail to ask that very question.I was at the lights again yesterday and they are still 9 seconds on green. With the SCOOT system every time on green should be different according to traffic levels. They are even on red when there are no vehicles going around it from the South.
twowheelsgood Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 I recall you saying the SCOOT system was going to be updated as part of the pinch point works - I take it this hasn't been done then?
ragwert Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 I recall you saying the SCOOT system was going to be updated as part of the pinch point works - I take it this hasn't been done then? Yes.They even said after works were complete that there was a fault with the BT line connected to the SCOOT system and it would be sorted. Guess they did not sort it out and have gone back to having the lights on a single timed sequence.
ragwert Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 I will post their response once I get it.I'm also doing an FOI request to find out everything about this SCOOT system I can.
Jonny Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 cheeky bastards blaming BT, They dug up and ripped out the BT cable when they pulled down the trees and added the 3rd lane. I did see a new cable going in soon after so that should be working now.
ragwert Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 Dear me,just been past Edgar Street and the traffic is dire right up to Newtown roundabout.Stopped by Sally army building and done two green counts again.Still 9 sec
Biomech Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 heh you fool, I went the scenic route - up to Holmer, around the Roman road and back up up Whitecross. Still quicker
twowheelsgood Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 I can't believe these don't have a link to a remote control room somewhere, even if only a dumb link to indicate they're not working properly.
Biomech Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 I see we have a serial -1'er back down voting posts for no reason - has Fiona signed up? Needless to say, we know it's one of the following Ubique, twowheelsgood, paulinehodges, megilleland, Grid Knocker, Jonny, Denise Lloyd, chrisbull
twowheelsgood Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 I assume you mean it's NOT one of the following? It's not me anyway.
Biomech Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 I assume you mean it's NOT one of the following? It's not me anyway. No no, it IS someone in that list. There are some that we know it's unlikely to be and some who it is more likely to be. I have no problem with down votes, but some people abuse the system and down vote things like "Traffic was bad today" -1.... "It's raining again" -1 When Ragwert says that the lights are running at 9 seconds because he counted - how can you downvote that? Or when I say I went the scenic route. It's the kind of thing that was going on on the HT website to try and discredit posters.
twowheelsgood Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Well, presumably Colin can see who is doing the deed and take action if deemed necessary. Personally, I attach no importance to them and rarely even register they are there.
megilleland Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Well, presumably Colin can see who is doing the deed and take action if deemed necessary. Personally, I attach no importance to them and rarely even register they are there. Here, here
Biomech Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 They can be useful as they add weight to peoples posts. For example, someone with a reputation of -23 saying that Odeon have pulled out of the OLM vs someone with a rep of 125 saying they haven't etc. So it indicates a social confidence in the poster.
ragwert Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Posted February 21, 2014 I was given a -1 within 2 mins on another post for no reason, however looking at who was reading that topic I know who it was
ragwert Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Posted February 21, 2014 I have sent an e-mail to ask that very question.I was at the lights again yesterday and they are still 9 seconds on green. With the SCOOT system every time on green should be different according to traffic levels. They are even on red when there are no vehicles going around it from the South. I have had a reply. I am writing on behalf of Amey who are employed by the Highways Agency to maintain the Motorways and Trunk Roads in the West Midlands until 30th June 2014 In response to your enquiry to the Highways Agency Information Line Thank you for your comments/concerns relating to the traffic lights on the Newmarket St roundabout in Hereford. A specialist is going to scene on 3rd March to see what he can do also. The main contributing effect is coming from the works in Newmarket until these works are completed things can settle down. For further information relating to the Highways Agency please visit their website by clicking on the link below So,the usual load of tripe
Biomech Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 I am writing on behalf of Amey who are employed by the Highways Agency to maintain the Motorways and Trunk Roads in the West Midlands until 30th June 2014 Now I'm lost, I thought Amey were gone and BB were in?
twowheelsgood Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 For Herefordshire Council yes, but the A49 is a trunk road - A49T - and the responsibility of the Highway Agency who, in their wisdom, employ Amey for maintenance, as do the Utilities.
ragwert Posted February 23, 2014 Author Report Posted February 23, 2014 A specialist is going to scene on 3rd March to see what he can do I'd love to meet this specialist who's probably from a land far far away.I'm sure I could tell him what to do.
Roger Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 I went southbound over the New Bridge today so as to get to Asda. The traffic was backed up in the outside lane of the bridge as far as Bridge Street. ie the whole length of the bridge. This was about 14.45 hrs. Having crawled along for the best part of ten minutes I found the answer. The filter lane that goes to Asda, through the middle of the roundabout, only had a green phase that let about 5 cars through until the next lengthy wait on red. Having done my shopping I was then trapped for 10 minutes getting out of the car park as the light controlling the shop exit onto the roundabout only let about 5 cars out (per lane) before going back to a long wait on red. These lights did not seem very 'intelligent' to me!
