dippyhippy
According to The Hereford Times, the GP walk in clinic has been sealed off. There are no more details as yet. I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but there are a fair few helicopters in the sky at the moment.
dippyhippy
The same report states a patient is in "isolation." Which presumably means they are suspected of being highly infectious. I hope with all my heart this isn't what I fear it could be. Frightening times . dippyhippy
Update. Public Health England have confirmed that the clinic has been sealed as a patient presented with symptoms that were potentially extremely contagious. They are currently assessing the patient, before transporting them to hospital. They have not stated which hospital, or the potential cause of the contagious risk. dippyhippy
Potentially very scary. My thoughts are with the patient, and my thanks go to the medics and ambulance crews who are dealing with this situation. I don't know how they remain calm, and cope with this sort of thing. Denise Lloyd
Let us hope this is ASDA/NHS just doing their job properly. Anyone at the moment who is displaying symptons similar to this horrible illness should be treated with extreme caution. Let us hope and pray that it is not Ebola. Roger
The possibility is there especially when Police cars were escorting the ambulance to the Hospital That large convoy of Ambulances/Police passed someone I know at 5.45 pm ... Going towards Commercial Sq via the ringroad. Must have been the worst case of diarrhoea in history to get that response ... Isn't the usual advice to keep away from the hospital if you have this stuff? As you just end up spreading it about there?

megilleland
Hereford Times News 18th November 2014 BREAKING NEWS Update: Ebola tests after GP walk-in centre closure PUBLIC Health England has confirmed tests for Ebola are being carried out on a patient at Hereford County Hospital with a history of travel to West Africa. Hereford's walk-in GP Centre at Asda was shut down yesterday afternoon after a patient presented with what is being described as 'potentially contagious symptoms'. The patient was transferred to Hereford County Hospital earlier yesterday evening and is now being treated in line with standard infection control guidelines. A spokesman for Public Health England said: "Ebola is considered very unlikely but testing is being done as a precaution. "Based on the evidence-based risk assessment protocol, we are confident that all appropriate actions are being taken to ensure there is no risk to public health. "It is important to remember that as yet, there has never been a case of Ebola diagnosed in the UK and the infection can only be transmitted through contact with the bodily fluids - such as blood, vomit or faeces - of an infected person. "We have advised all front line medical practitioners dealing with patients to be alert to signs and symptoms of Ebola in those returning from affected areas. Following such advice we would expect to see an increase in testing. "Should there be a positive case in the UK, this information will be made available to the public." The walk-in centre has reopened this morning.
Glenda Powell
STATEMENT FROM WYE VALLEY NHS TRUST - 1 hour ago. " Patient has undergone tests, all appropriate action has been taken and there is no risk to public health. As far as our patients are concerned, its a case of business as usual". As a local councillor I have asked Health England for information about this they have said they will contact me again this afternoon with an update on the situation. It has not been confirmed that what the patient is suffering from is Ebola!!!
Glenda Powell
It has not been confirmed that the man has got Ebola. Health England has come back to me stating there will be an update on Hfd & Worc radio at 5pm tonight.
Biomech
The chances of ebola are extremely slim, it just sounds like they are being cautious that's all. I can't imagine them closing the hospital even if someone did have ebola, after all, the hospital is the place everyone goes to to be ill, it's to be expected there. Sounds like a lot of rumour and speculation to me

There is no atmosphere of chaos or concern, just care and consideration to patients and visitors alike.
