Cambo Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I went to the polling station and got asked if I wanted to be issued with all of the available papers' (3) ...... In hindsight this sounds less than transparent ...... Roger do you know if this was the norm in your ward for them to ask voters that?
Denise Lloyd Posted May 13, 2015 Report Posted May 13, 2015 Funny how different polling stations behave on election day. I think I was blessed with 3 very efficient clerks. When I went in to vote there were 2 elderly ladies standing near the ballot box chin wagging and a very elderly gentleman voting. Whilst casting my vote the clerks did their level best to break the two ladies up and eventually as I was leaving much to everybody's embarassment the male clerk got up and escorted the 2 ladies and now finished man out. And that is how it should be strictly business no chit chat. However on the other hand I understand the Con candidate for Stoney Street (Steve Williams) with a name badge on but no flashy Con thing on was actually in Clehonger hall most of the day. How strange that there was not any uniformity with this election,
Paul Neades Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Hi Denise, no candidate was allowed in the station during voting endless they had removed their rosette and there were no voters present. It seems like there were different things happening across the county.
Paul Neades Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 This also applied to party advertising, IOC removed all banners and signs Within 250m of the polling stations across the county the night before. Other parties left banners & signs up next to stations & signs on and in cars parked up close. At least we played by the rules. But you are right there seemed to be no enforcement of the rules.
SON OF GRIDKNOCKER Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Strange goings-on in local election polling stations (episode 94). I know I probably sound like George Galloway, but where I voted last week (Aylestone Hill Ward; Broadlands Primary School, Prospect Walk) the signposting to the actual station was simply abysmal. On my way home I had to direct several folk who were wandering around, seemingly lost. Two of them were on the point of packing it in and going home. One of the four candidates on the all-female slate was someone called Angie Tyler (who had had the bad taste to include with her election literature which came through our door, a flyer for a car book sale in memory of her dead daughter ffs!). When I stepped into the flimsy, un-curtained and hardly-private plywood polling booth, what should I find sellotaped to the counter but a 'Vote Angie Tyler' sticker. It didn't stay there very long! With all the patronising clap-trap we have to suffer from politicians every election night ("And I particularly want to express my heatfelt thanks to the returning officer..."), let's have a vote of no confidence for the election officials of Herefordshire, shall we, especially after the fiasco of Saxon Gate?
twowheelsgood Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Ultimately, the man to answer all for of these issues is the Returning Officer, the invisible and silent Chief Executive Alistair Neill. I seem to recall the last election was plagued with irregulalrities under the management of Chris Bull and that we were reassured in the aftermath that inevitably lessons had been learnt. And forgotten again it seems.

M185 Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Hi Paul, The IOC missed some party/candidate advertising then as there was one in the front garden, belonging to an IOC candidate, directly opposite a polling station which is well within the allowed 250m. I did wonder if it was 'legal'... just saying.
Bill Thomas Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 The Independents and IOC owe it to the people of Herefordshire to put aside animosity and when possible support each other in their endeavours. In Europe, where politics is much more serious than UK, political parties get into Blocks and fight the Governing party together. Left wing parties form one block, Right wing parties another, this way you achieve far more than you do fighting each other, and the more experienced and respected politicians from all the parties in a block, lend their weight to achieve the similar aims of their Block. There will be no excuse now if the Independents, IOC, LD's and Green, do not put aside their personal dislikes and together put Herefordshire first. The county must be our Alpha and our Omega, our beginning and our end, our today and tomorrow, we therefore have a duty to challenge the Conservatives where challenge is necessary and where we agree or can make constructive criticism, to do that with dignity and unity. Well said Chris.
SON OF GRIDKNOCKER Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 In the new ward of Dinedor Hill (formerly Hollington), there was a rum do concerning illegal advertising. This was to be a crucial seat, with IOC going mano-a-mano with the Tories. Four years ago they lost it, when the Greens' Gerald Dawe was ousted by Ledbury hatter Peter Sinclair Knight. For once, Bob 'Cloth Ears' Matthews had overlooked a city fight which could have been spoled by the Indies' intervention. IOC's David Summers eventually pulled off a memorable victory with a 42-vote majority. Mid-morning on polling day and a voter goes into the Rotherwas polling station, complaining that a car had been parked outside, festooned with Tory election propoganda. The car in question turns out to be owned by the Tory candidate, Peter Sinclair Knight, who had strategically positioned the vehicle - a large estate car - with its hatchback open, revealing a huge VOTE TORY placard propped up against the back seat. In double-quick time the ex-Guards officer was given his marching orders by the returning officer, who was unimpressed with his lame excuse: "I was only exercising the dog."!

Denise Lloyd Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 Animal welfare and health is one of the items included in the domain of the Regulatory Committee. Very interested to see two that will go down with people!
Glenda Powell Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 These appointments are only proposals, and the list is changing all the time. I have asked for all appointments to be sent to me after council meeting tomorrow, I will then post the list here.
Glenda Powell Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I attended the council meeting this morning, although IOC is second largest group they were snubbed by Tory's for mamagement appointments. The list as promised of councillor positions on Herefordshire Council: Tony Johnson - leader of council Patricia Morgan - deputy Leader. Brian Wilcox - chairman of council Peter McCaull - deputy chairman. Sebastian Bowen - chairman overview and scrutiny. Mark Cooper - vice chairman overview scrutiny. Polly Andrews - chairman of health & social care scrutiny John Stone - vice chairman health & social care scrutiny. Phil Cutter - chairman planning John Hardwick - vice chair planning David Greenow - chairman of regulatory Marcelle Lloyd Hayes - vice chairman regulatory. Tony Johnson - chairman employment panel Patricia Morgan - vice chair employment panel. Cabinet: Tony Johnson - leader of council / corporate strategy & finance Patricia Morgan - deputy leader council / health & wellbeing. Harry Braemer - contracts & assets Graham Powell - economy & corporate services. Phil Price - Infrastructure. Paul Rone - transport & roads. John Lester - young people & children wellbeing.
Glenda Powell Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 The Tories do not like IOC and from the appointments handed down it shows. IOC had got an alternative appointments list with their members taking prominant positions that was not allowed, and it got very heated for a while. The appointments were very much Tory favoured, but independents and Lib Dems were recognised with Deputy Chairman, vice chair planning and Lib dem chair of health & social care. It was very evident the Tories are in control once again.
greenknight Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Well in all reality it's a poison challice Glenda. The council needs to shave off some of the £200 million debt and that's only going to come from three sources, houses, council tax increases and the selling of assetts unless you know different. On top of this there will be demands from central government which this council will struggle to administer meanwhile from the health and social care budgets there's nothing but trouble brewing. Keep supporting the locals Glenda they are going to need you and if you need help just say!
Glenda Powell Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Greenknight, Nothing has changed with the council. appointments made were given to yes people. I am very concerned about health & social care because I think this budget will be cut again.Residents are still coming to me for my help although I have told them I am not a councillor now, only this evening there was a knock on my door, again I had to say I cant help you with your problem because Im not a councillor and they said in their eyes I am.What did you mean if I need help just say?
greenknight Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Because I believe they will continue to knock your door Glenda because that's what people do when know their is someone who will listen. The trouble is just sometimes those that listen occasionally need an ear as well so if can be of service I will do my best to help.

dippyhippy Posted June 3, 2015 Author Report Posted June 3, 2015 The HT are reporting that there will be a re run of two parish elections, Saxon gate and Newton near Leominster, because of voting irregularities. But were these the only ones?? We already have folks saying they were given incorrect information at Widemarsh and Redhill. Have these been looked into?? What about the Freedom Church leaflet promoting a candidate? Has this been investigated?? If folks are to have any faith, all of these issues need to be seen to be being examined very carefully.
dippyhippy Posted June 26, 2015 Author Report Posted June 26, 2015 It's Our County, win the Saxon Gate by election! Brilliant news! A big "well done" to David Griffiths! He received twice the number of votes of the Conservative candidate, Mark McEvilly. With only three parties contesting this ward, there was no splitting of the vote, and IOC romped home! Hopefully, a taste of things to come in future by elections.
Denise Lloyd Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 It does make you wonder doesn't it? How it could swing that much in such a short time very odd.
