Roger
Regarding his dress - don't judge a book by its cover (you shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something, by its outward appearance alone). If he wants to turn up at an important event dressed like a tramp then fine. If wants to appeal to a certain section of Society in his fan base then fair enough but he will rapidly realise that if you widen your appeal then you might get more votes. Dressing smartly on a budget involves no change of principle on his part. Policy wise. But it would compromise his belief that you can turn up for work looking like you just got out of bed. I know he famously only claimed about £8 for printer cartridges in the expenses scandal but if he got in as PM he is the sort of person who would travel to Syria on a bicycle to check stuff out to save money on air travel. He is living in a parallel Universe in my view. And I'm not even rich. :-p

H.Wilson
He is too far to the left for my liking and that will be his downfall, it is all good at the moment but let the dust settle a little bit. People will often in public suggest that they are more to the left but once they get into the voting booth the real person within pops that tick where they really believe it belongs. We no longer have a coalition after the general election but hey ho that just my two pence worth.

He is currently in the papers every day with his 'Select Committee' role ..... Anyone who doesn't want him as MP next time might as well move out of the Constituency. He is here next time. Clarkester
Why is Jeremy Corbyn getting so much heat for not singing along to the national anthem? The man is a republican and a pacifist! Good for him for standing by his beliefs. I wouldn't sing along to the national anthem either. Why should I? Why should anyone, unless they actually want to. Back in 1984 (remember then?) A certain Mr Daley Thompson got into all sorts of bother for daring to whistle along to the national anthem... Anyway, I digress... The man has principles that he believes in, whether you agree with him or not, at least the man is honest. Plus, what was the queens role in the Battle of Britain? Spitfire pilot? Hurricane pilot? Anti-Aircraft gunner? None of those?? I'm not a Labour supporter by any means, but I do rather admire Mr Corbyn, and I for one, wish him all the best. Roger
Don't rate the Jess but with this comment he has really gone down a level or two - infantile and a form of bullying M Reply M Laura Kuenssberg (BBC Political Editor) was on the radio this morning and she said the Tory tactic is going to be trying to avoid making personal attacks on Corbyn. Instead they will try and 'maim' Labour by wrapping that whole Party in one big lump with it's Leader. She has very likely been briefed on the plan. Unlike Jesse Norman MP. PMQ's should be interesting today. Midday.

megilleland
Noted that a person commenting in the press has pointed out that Maggie Thatcher didn't always sing along with the National Anthem. Roger
I see megilleland that he was getting stick from his own side about the National Anthem stuff today. But water under the bridge for now. Lets see how he shapes up at The Cenotaph. I watched Corbyn's first PMQ's today with interest. I thought he was competent for a first go. In mentioning that the questions he posed were sampled from 40,000 emails he'd received, and in naming the authors, he avoided being rubbished by Cameron as that would be rubbishing the member of the Public who wrote the question. It also meant that Cameron couldn't rubbish Corbyn with his answers so all a bit safe. Unfortunately for Corbyn the PM had very good answers for the all the questions which incidentally were not followed up with a counter point. Corbyn never thought on his feet having heard the answer and Cameron was never required to do so as Corbyn had no immediate low baller. All a bit sterile. Cameron only had one real swipe at the opposition in that half hour and it was directed at the Labour Party and not Corbyn.
Chris Chappell
I have not sung national anthem for 50 years, do not intend to start now. When I was Mayor and vice chairman of Herefordshire Council never sang anthem. Have never hidden from my constituents that I am a republican. Although bought up in the Church of England, I left when I realised that by singing and praying weekly for the Queen I was worshipping another God! 'Though shalt have no other God but me.......' But it was more than that. I am not a 'subject', slave, submissive. I am a 'citizen'of the UK and proud of it! I bow to no one accept my constituents, to whom I am answerable. Corbyn was right, he could not be a hypocrite. He and I and millions like us know that most of the men who went off to war in 1914/18 had never been in a Cathedral, and proably would not have been welcomed there anyway. In 1939/45 men went to war because they were conscripted, although in the early years, in the RAF it seemed like a bit of a 'Lark'! In 1951, national service sent men to the Korean War, nothing to do with the Queen, but I suppose you might blame Attlee! When I was Mayor, I wanted to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands war when 29 Herefordshire men, (mainly sas died,). These I guys I respectfully suggest joined the army for a job, not for the Queen although they may have said they were fighting for their country. My Christian beliefs and my socialist beliefs stop me from touching my forelock to anyone. I really do think we should honour those who have given their lives for our country, by ensuring we never have to send our young men to war again. That those who return, wounded and Brocken should be looked after and their families and those of the dead are looked after too. So platitudes in a Cathedral may have their place, but Mr Corbyn, who although I share 85% of his beliefs will be a disaster as Leader, because the press and the country still worship a time long gone by. Good for you Corbyn, But if you are a real socialist, you will ensure that if you can not win the next election, some one else will lead the Party
Roger
Corbyn was right, he could not be a hypocrite. Corbyn will be singing the National Anthem at all future events in his capacity as Leader. BBC Good for you Corbyn, But if you are a real socialist, you will ensure that if you can not win the next election, some one else will lead the Party He wiped the floor with the other candidates in that recent Election. 59% of the vote. The biggest win by anyone for decades. I fully expect him to be Leader into the next Election because if he wasn't it would be a slap in the face to the nearly 2/3 of the Party who want a Marxist Prime Minister. greenknight
Well I would just like to see some credible opposition. I can't see any backbone in this current Government and it may state that it's second term is based on sound economic policies but they would have blown said policies by 2020 to avoid civil unrest. Roger
When I was Mayor and vice chairman of Herefordshire Council never sang anthem. Thankfully this issue was resolved once and for all on BBC Question Time tonight. Corbyn's best mate (Shadow Chancellor) explained that Jeremy always sings the National Anthem but was so 'moved' by the Battle Of Britain Service that he became 'distracted' and forgot to sing it. You can't make this up really.

ragwert
They packed up and left in the middle of the night. Some of them barely had time to tweet their indignation before grabbing what limited personal belongings they could carry and heading South East. By dawn the camps had sprung up near Dover, desperate ex Labour Front-benchers and their aides huddled together waiting for the traffickers who would take them to the continent and a new life, away from Corbyn, somewhere safe. The lucky ones have already made it across to France, but their perilous journey has only just started. ‘I heard that some of the Scandinavian countries have true Social Democratic parties, and they’ll take people from anywhere’, one tired and emotional ex Shadow Cabinet member said, echoing the thoughts of many of his colleagues. But he knows he must take care – one of his colleagues managed to get the last Eurostar train to Brussels before the borders were closed but was caught on arrival and taken straight to a European Parliament Subcommittee on Agriculture and Rural Development. The reality for most of these unfortunate people is that Europe doesn’t want them. ‘We already have enough social democrats!’ one German lady stated today, ‘and I would rather we looked after our own politicians, some of whom have had a terrible time recently.’ The plight of these desperate, broken people is shocking even to the most hardened journalist. Their haunted faces and empty eyes are still the same as before, but they haven’t shaved in a couple of days. Stuck between a government that doesn’t want them and a Europe that doesn’t seem to care the MPs wait, listen to Radio 4 and recount stories from the good old days when they could win elections. ‘Those days are long gone, my friend, long gone’ they lament
