The charity has been awarded a £5million contract to provide its services to people across Herefordshire, taking over from DASH. Under the five year contract, Addaction will expand the options open to adults and young people recovering from alcohol and drug issues. The main hub for the service will be at 6 Bridge Street, Hereford, with additional premises opening in the next few weeks at The Old Chapel, Cantaloupe Road, Ross-on-Wye and at Bridge Street Leisure Centre, Leominster. Addaction offers support, advice and treatment for anyone aged 11 and upwards affected by a drug or alcohol issue and their families and carers. People can drop in during opening hours and see a duty worker or be referred by their GP. Implementation manager Claire Morris said: “1 in 5 people are affected by addiction and we’re here to help people understand the issue and find support. The service covers everything from advice for a parent about the new drugs around or, helping someone reduce their alcohol consumption, to supporting an adult to recover from a long-standing addiction.†As part of the new service, peer support work will be expanded, staff will develop links within the community to offer service users opportunities to build life skills and a comprehensive volunteering programme will be implemented. Addaction has been working hard with the existing providers to make sure there is a smooth transition of staff and resources.
