Aylestone Voice Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 Friday 21 September 2018 100 years ago Allan was killed in action during WW1 and as a result of his bravery was awarded the Victoria Cross. He is the only Herefordshire born person to have been awarded a VC This Friday there will be two events to commemorate Allan. At 10.00am in the Lady Arbour Garden at Hereford Cathedral a plaque will be dedicated in his honour. At 11.00am at the Old Market shopping centre a statue of Allan will be unveiled. Please try and take some time out to attend these events. 1 Quote
Ubique Posted September 19, 2018 Report Posted September 19, 2018 For info - The Statue will be located the Widemarsh St end of The Old Market . Unable to attend the Cathedral Service but will certainly be at the unveiling. Quote
ragwert Posted September 20, 2018 Report Posted September 20, 2018 I just hope that the statue is higher than it looks under the cloth that covers it as it looks to be around 4ft tall. Quote
ragwert Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 Great ceremony apart from the rain. Quote
Ubique Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 Well done to all involved . I sincerely hope that the Statue is treated with the respect it deserves by passing pedestrians. I also hope that it will be covered by good CCTV. Quote
Hereford Voice Posted October 6, 2018 Report Posted October 6, 2018 Fantastic to see, I will salute him when I am next there. Quote
