Hereford Voice Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 The scaffolding erected at the Town Hall in Hereford in December 2015 was finally removed today after almost three and a half years! The entrance canopy has undergone extensive repair work as it had settled by approximately 50mm and required additional strengthening steel rods to be placed in order to give additional support and a large part of the canopy has been completely replaced together with remedial terracotta and stone work. There is still some cleaning to be done to complete the project but this fine iconic Hereford building is almost back to its former glory. Quote
Roger Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 I think people have gone past caring. Everything else is neglected. Council Grass s 4 ft tall behind my house. City is over run by serious organised crime. Or applications to commit serious organised crime. I can't get excited over this! 1 Quote
Paul Jones Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 Good to see that the work has now been completed and at least the scaffolding has now been taken down which was there for far far too long. Quote
twowheelsgood Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 An absurd amount of time, inconvenience and incompetence to deliver - once again, Property Services have a lot to answer for, yet they answer for nothing - think Blueschool House - so we're unlikely to know the true cost of this particular episode, and there's not much we can do even if we did. Hard to choose between them and £20m+ a year BBLP for very little in return as to who's having the biggest laugh whilst everything falls apart. Quote
twowheelsgood Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 To put this in perspective, when the Town Hall was opened in 1904, it had taken 2 years to build, from scratch, and that included slum clearance beforehand. No machines, all manual labour, finished inside and out to an extremely high standard. Yet this relatively small repair took almost twice as long as it took to build the Town Hall in the first place! 1 Quote
