Colin James Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 I was talking with a young guy who cycled into this post and hurt himself the other week. I am surprised that he has not taken legal action for some sort of compensation. This post is well redundant and seems to serve no purpose, so why is it still there? obviously dangerous in this case... While I have been out and about, I have noticed that there are lots of dead unsightly posts. Why is this? is it that Amey or who ever is responsible can't be bothered to remove them or what? I found another here near the top of Newton Farm, on the walkway down towards the school and another one here near the 'hardly ever open waste of money' Newton Farm police station. I am sure there must be plenty more, feel free to add any that you find, can these be removed at some stage? Quote
Alex Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 That is not only dangerous but unsightly too, poor standards a lot of the time in my opinion. Some of these posts have obviously been in situ for years and nobody has done anything about it. Quote
M. Preece Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 That is not only dangerous but unsightly too, poor standards a lot of the time in my opinion. Some of these posts have obviously been in situ for years and nobody has done anything about it. I think i would have to agree Quote
Adrian Pitt Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 It would not take much to do the job properly in the first place, but even now to remove these dead posts is no big deal. I agree they do look unsightly. They will not do anything until some child cuts themselves on the sharp metal within, like on the concrete one. Quote
Frank Smith Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 These posts should be removed. Interesting to see not many comments Mmmm :Sick_32: Quote
Glenda Powell Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 These posts should be removed. Interesting to see not many comments Mmmm :Sick_32: I have contacted Amey to have them removed asap Quote
Colin James Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 I have contacted Amey to have them removed asap Thank you for your reply Glenda. Lets see how long this one takes them. Quote
megilleland Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Here are a few more posts that appear to not have a useful function. These are seen by the river, behind Sherborne Close, Waterfield Road, along Great Western Way. Quote
Colin James Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 That last one on the right looks rusty and dangerous to me. I cannot believe how these have all just been left, well Councillor Powell contacted Amey on February the 11th so lets see how quickly they respond to her request. Quote
megilleland Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 The post is on Great Western Way just before you go over the river bridge. Could be dangerous if you came off your bike and fell on it. Quote
Glenda Powell Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 I have had a reply by phone this afternoon, a works number has been raised for the inspection / removal of the various posts across Newton Farm / GWW that has been identified. In regard to the graffeti on the fence an officer from Amey will be visiting the house the fence belongs to to ask for the removal of graffeti. Quote
M. Preece Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 The post is on Great Western Way just before you go over the river bridge. Could be dangerous if you came off your bike and fell on it. Yes very dangerous, I hope they remove all of these posts asap. Quote
Colin James Posted April 3, 2012 Author Report Posted April 3, 2012 I found a few more of these mysterious posts, these first two are obviously on the Great Western Way Quote
Colin James Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 Here are a few from St Martins and Putson This first one is along Hinton Road This one is just outside the funeral directors Quote
H.Wilson Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Why don't they just remove these posts looks terrible Quote
Mick Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Why don't they just remove these posts looks terrible Now this has been discussed I have noticed quite a few redundant posts. Quote
Colin James Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 I noticed all 5 of these along the Belmont Road and this is only between the turning for Hunderton Road and Belmont Avenue. So far just in this discussion we have found 18 dead posts in and around the Belmont Ward and 2 others at St Martins and Hinton, is this a lot or is it just me? Why were these not removed when they became redundant? this is a poor standard I think. What really surprises me is that the first ones were reported over 2 months ago, where a cyclists had hurt himself and it's still there! Quote
megilleland Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Noticed today this post has been taken out at long last. Quote
Colin James Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 Noticed today this post has been taken out at long last. One down 17 to go Quote
megilleland Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 One down 17 to go I am afraid not, I have just seen another one on the right of the bike chicane by the Brampton Road Stores, next to the Royal Mail drop box. I'll post a photo tomorrow. Quote
Mick Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 Some of these post looks really dangerous, have any of them been removed yet? Quote
Colin James Posted May 6, 2012 Author Report Posted May 6, 2012 Some of these post looks really dangerous, have any of them been removed yet? Well the first reply from Cllr Powell was February 11th then we had this reply on March 19th 2012 I have had a reply by phone this afternoon, a works number has been raised for the inspection / removal of the various posts across Newton Farm / GWW that has been identified. In regard to the graffeti on the fence an officer from Amey will be visiting the house the fence belongs to to ask for the removal of graffeti. It is now the 6th of May and to date none of the posts have been removed as far as I am aware Quote
Alex Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 I went for a bike ride this morning down the old GWW, what a tip! anyway all of the original posts are still there NONE have bee nremoved, it will be intersting to see what is said if another person hurts themselves on one of them. Also nothing has been fixed on the Hunderton Bridge either, just thought I would pass on my findings. Quote
Victor Wright Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 I went for a bike ride this morning down the old GWW, what a tip! anyway all of the original posts are still there NONE have bee nremoved, it will be intersting to see what is said if another person hurts themselves on one of them. Also nothing has been fixed on the Hunderton Bridge either, just thought I would pass on my findings. Yes no change at all, I was walking along the GWW this morning, nothing has been removed. Quote
Frank Smith Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I have had a reply by phone this afternoon, a works number has been raised for the inspection / removal of the various posts across Newton Farm / GWW that has been identified. In regard to the graffeti on the fence an officer from Amey will be visiting the house the fence belongs to to ask for the removal of graffeti. Well Cllr Powell posted this as far back as March (almost 4 months ago!) and on my walk about today all of the reported posts along the GWW and Newton Farm are still in situ dispite the dangers the some pose :Thumbs-Down: Quote
Glenda Powell Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Although I have been away from council due to the fact I was in hospital 6 weeks until Tuesday. I contacted Amey asking why nothing has been done, they said they could not see from the photo's where the redundant post are located. A poor excuse for not doing the work!!! Quote
K.Butt Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I found a few more of these mysterious posts, these first two are obviously on the Great Western Way These two are clearly near the old garages on the GWW (opposite the Oval shops) most of the dead post locations are on each picture. The first post is actually on the GWW near the Hunderton bridge where the bank rises, most of these are obvious to be fair, get amy to log in here they will soon see where they all are like you say poor excuse indeed, just glad nobody has hurt themselves. This one is just along the footpath along side the Brampton Road Stores walking down towards the school on the left Quote
H.Wilson Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Cllr Powell actually contacted Amey in February if you have a read through so this has taken 5 months and nothing has been done about it, I think this is disgusting! Amey need to get their act together, cannot believe they gave the excuse that they did not know where the posts are located! how did they give a job number if they did not know where these posts are????????? I have read through mosts of the posts on here where members have reported posts and 99% tell you where each post is, some are located in St Martins and Putson too but it is so obvious where they are. :Angry_32: Quote
Glenda Powell Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 I said the same thing because I quoted the works number I was given, and yes although I sent them a set of photo's ( which the number has increased now) I also told them to look on here atall the comments!!! Quote
