Jim Kenyon Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I've been steady building evidence of need through 3 small consultations and will continue to do so I had an interesting email last week asking me for a meeting regarding the close circuit cycling track at the racecourse watch this space folks!! flamboyant Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Will the Council be donating the land for the Velodrome or will the developers be paying full market value? Quote
Jim Kenyon Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 Flam there are no developers involved it would be something the community would find funding for and we would ask halo to run it generating an income to support other sports such as free swimming for kids. Quote
megilleland Posted September 15, 2014 Author Report Posted September 15, 2014 Nice to see the cycling team NFTO (Not for the Ordinary) doing well in the Tour of Britain - great team work and support. It's encouraging for the youngsters to have a local team based in Rotherwas showing the world how good they can be. Expect to see more bikes on the road. Quote
twowheelsgood Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 Yes, its shaping up to be a team to take note of - and a big investment as well. Such a shame our roads are in an appalling state - I cycled 40 miles around the County yesterday and I estimate about 4 miles of that was on good new surface. The rest frankly was a disgrace, an embarrassment and a danger, and I was doing half the speed that pro or semi pro cyclists need to do. Its no coincidence that the Tour avoided Herefordshire, looping around the western edge on the Wales side for the best part, where they know how to maintain their investments. Newtown, Abergavenny, Monmouth all benefitted - Hereford didn't. Quote
megilleland Posted September 15, 2014 Author Report Posted September 15, 2014 I wonder where they train on the "roads" of Herefordshire? Do they use the velodrome at Newport? Maybe a velodrome at Rotherwas would be a good idea now that there is a consultaion on relaxing the planning rules on the Enterprise Zone. The council are currently consulting on revisions to Local Development Order between Friday 5 September 2014 and Friday 3 October 2014 inclusive. Maybe including a D2 use would be a good idea. Assembly and leisure: Cinemas, concert halls, bingo and dance halls, casinos, swimming baths, skating rinks, gymnasiums or sports arenas (except for motor sports, or where firearms are used). Quote
megilleland Posted September 15, 2014 Author Report Posted September 15, 2014 Draft Revised Hereford Enterprise Zone Local Development Order Consultation Herefordshire Council adopted Hereford Enterprise Zone Local Development Order in April 2013 to support measures aimed at generating skilled and well paid jobs through attracting a range of manufacturing jobs to Rotherwas Industrial Estate. This makes it easier for businesses to develop sites within the estate through avoiding the need to apply for planning permission for certain types of industrial development. The types of businesses permitted through this order include storage and distribution, andgeneral and light industry. Certain conditions are however imposed, for example to promote sustainable transport and protect the environment. Currently there is a restriction upon the amount of traffic that can be generated by the Enterprise Zone onto the A49 and the order will cease to operate when the level of capacity agreed with the Highways Agency is reached. Looks as if it is shouting out for a velodrome - just got to work out how to pay for it. Quote
Alex Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Do we have any updates re the Velodrome? Quote
Glenda Powell Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Not the Velodrome, but the skate park in Newton Farm is being renewed Herefordshire Housing has got funding to renew it because it sits on their land, it will be completed by next April. It is to be a smaller version to the one in Holmer road. Its been on the cards for the past year when I asked them as the then councillor could they put more children / teenage play equipment up there. Herefordshire Housing told me this last week. Quote
twowheelsgood Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 There is NO MONEY coming from Herefordshire Council CVP, read Councillor Kenyon's post. So it can ONLY be privately funded so it is guaranteed! A planning application has been submitted for the cycle track. HT report today £30k of public money coming from Hereford City Council, so not exactly guaranteed privately funded then. Also note that since this thread stared the NFTO cycling team closed at the end of last year when sponsors withdrew, despite doing fantastically well both in the UK and abroad. It's a tough financial climate out there. Quote
