New Traffic Lights Running - A49N Now GRIDLOCKED
Colin James replied to Biomech's topic in Open Forum
I asked if they will consider turning off both the lights at the Asda junction and Edgar Street for a 3 month trial period years ago and I will continue with my campaign until they at least try it, but I would be happy if the trailed it for a month or even 2 weeks! Come on just try it, what do they have to loose? The Council and Highway's Agency are too embarrassed that's the problem, they have wasted thousands of pounds on a scheme that clearly is a mess and does NOT work! Thanks for your support on this Jim, excellent email.- 56 replies

New Traffic Lights Running - A49N Now GRIDLOCKED
Colin James replied to Biomech's topic in Open Forum
Well maybe they will start listening to me now...but I will not hold my breath Here are a few pictures I took today, the first picture (top left) was the traffic heading into town this morning at 10.45am (so not even rush hour). The other pictures are of the traffic on my way home this afternoon showing how bad the queues are not that the Edgar Street traffic lights are back on, no surprise here though! Which all look a little different to when I took this video last week when the traffic lights were off eh.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNmgyPw5OOc- 56 replies

Police Incident Operation Trilby Hereford
Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Police & Crime
Your welcome and yes we owe them a lot. I wonder if they used their tasers? If not why mention that taser equipped offices were deployed?- 24 replies

The police have put up a cordon in Eign Road outside the Brewers Arms. West Mercia Police release this statement OPERATION TRILBY– Community Update from Superintendent Ivan Powell I am the policing commander for Herefordshire and think it is vitally important that I communicate clearly with local residents following a serious incident that took place in the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 24th of November 2013. Operation Trilby is the operational name allocated by police into the investigation of a stabbing incident. The way in which events unfolded is as follows: At approximately 04:40am on the 24th of November 2013, police received a telephone call from the ambulance service telling us they were responding to a report of a man who had been stabbed in the Brewers Arms Public house in Hereford. A significant number of police resources were deployed to several locations in relation to this incident. These resources included firearms officers, plain clothes and uniform response officers. Other specialist officers are also involved. At around 4.54 am, only 14 minutes after the call, two persons were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder by taser equipped officers. Both remain in police custody at this time. This was an extremely fast moving investigation that required the deployment a significant number of police resources. I would like to re-iterate some key messages: Within 15 minutes of the call being made, two persons were under arrest and there is no longer any threat to the community. The victim and suspect are believed to be known to each other and there is no evidence to suggest that any other member of the public is at risk of harm. We have significant policing resources committed to the investigative interviewing, forensic investigation, crime scene searches and house to house enquiries. I would also like to thank the local community in Hereford for their understanding and support during this police operation. Whilst the identity of the injured male is known to some members of the community, his identity will be confirmed in due course. At this time, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this difficult time, but please be reassured we continue to provide them with personal support. It is important for me to acknowledge that this is a serious incident, but please be reassured this type of event is very rare, and there is no longer a threat to the community of Herefordshire. Members of the public who believe that they have information that may be relevant to the police investigation are to contact West Mercia Police on 101 and ask for officers at Hereford, or please approach any of my staff who will be patrolling your areas whilst they conduct house to house enquiries over the next few days. We Need Better Lane Guidance On Hereford Roundabout
Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford City
Yes there are 4 lanes not 3 my bad, ok I have attached a photo from the link you provided it is the R lane on the roads it sats A49S but surely this is wrong? If it is not it's confusing because you cannot stay in lane! At some point (just past the 3rd exit) you need to swing back across into what would then be the middle lane because there are only 3 lanes from the Edgar Street exit. This 4th lane in my opinion should just be for the A438 exit...- 28 replies

We Need Better Lane Guidance On Hereford Roundabout
Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford City
This new setup is confusing, unless it's me? If you are travelling from south or even coming out of Whitecross Road (A438) towards the roundabout there are 3 lanes, the right hand lane by Steels says (on the road in paint) A49S, surely that should be the middle lane? The reason I say this is because if you follow that lane around assuming that you do actually want to head south towards the A49, you then have to change lanes back across to the middle lane half way around (which I always complain about) because as you pass the Edgar Street exit there is a signpost on the grass of the roundabout showing 2 left lanes for the A49S and the 3rd right hand lane says A438 (Whitecross road and Brecon Road)which is the lane that you are in!! (But if you enter the roundabout from Edgar Street you need to be in the middle lane, so if they say that this is correct, at what point do they expect you to change lanes?) Can one of the Councillors please clarify this is correct with the highways agency please? I have today written a letter of complain to the Highways Agency- 28 replies

We Need Better Lane Guidance On Hereford Roundabout
Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford City
Yep I have this virtually every time and now you can clearly see people becoming impatient with those stupid temporary traffic lights and they change lanes, moving from the middle lane into the new right lane in order to save time but then change back across instead of going along Whitecross Road! I just hold my hand on the horn ! This needs sorting it really does! They should have the police sitting there for a few weeks pulling people over and giving them tickets because this is an accident just waiting to happen in my opinion.- 28 replies

Jon is a great guy, I have known him all of my life, he will be a great for you of that I am sure. Congratulations Jon!
-
Cllr. Jim Keynon has had a meeting with Hereford Council and it seems that they may have agreed to turn off the temporary traffic lights on the Edgar Street roundabout southbound for a week, it's now down to the Highway's Agency, so fingers crossed. At least if they trial this for a week we will know if my idea works but I am confident that it will be a lot better with them turned off. Nice one Jim!!

Ten European lime trees will be planted in Hereford’s Edgar Street as part of a Highways Agency scheme. The trees, which will be planted in the central reservation area on Thursday (21 November), are approximately six metres tall. Although the winter season is the best time for planting, the trees are in a dormant state, which is normal during this time of year. The tree planting will mark the near completion of the Highways Agency’s scheme to improve the A49 Edgar Street at its junction with Newmarket Street. The work has involved widening the A49 southbound approach to create a third lane in order to increase capacity for vehicles approaching the junction. A pedestrian crossing to the north of the junction on the A49 southbound approach has also been relocated closer to the roundabout. Kevin Harvey, Highways Agency Project Manager for the scheme, said: “The additional lane will increase capacity and help reduce queues on the A49 southbound approach to the junction. “Due to seasonal conditions, the trees that we’ll be planting are in a dormant state. However, they should begin to branch out and establish well in the spring. “The scheme, including renewing the traffic lights, will be completed by next weekend, subject to weather conditions.†The work is part of a national £317 million pinch point improvement programme, designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion and improve safety on the strategic road network in England. The programme is part of the UK Government’s growth initiative, outlined during the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement in November 2011. The pinch point programme helps boost local economies and drive economic growth by providing smaller scale improvements to ease congestion and make journey times more reliable for road users, including hauliers and commuters. I agree with Martin, somewhere near to the Leisure Centre or Racecourse would be ideal or even on the back of Roman Road where the new cattle market is now. As for south of the river, Somewhere near to the Swimming Baths or even Rotherwas!

Thanks for the update Martin it will be interesting to see what happens in Worcester. I know that they have been campaigning over there too for quite some time. I have emailed Simon Cronin (Worcester City Councillor) who is behind this campaign. Yes, many are not needed: 72% No we need more: 5% Yes, but they are necessary: 21% I don't know: 1%

Hereford Edgar Street Traffic Lights Out - Northbound Only
Colin James replied to Alex's topic in Open Forum
Note: The NEW 3rd lane in Edgar Street is for traffic heading for Whitecross or for traffic wanting to go all the way around the roundabout and back down Edgar Street ONLY! It is NOT for people to cut back across to go over the bridge! Traffic for Ross Road needs to be in the left lane and traffic for Belmont or Abergavenny please use the middle lane. Please share.- 5 replies

So in about 6 months then
-
You are absolutely correct but you will notice that the direction where the traffic lights are off is where the traffic flows beautifully, the current traffic jams in Edgar Street are ONLY in the direction where the temporary lights are on (southbound) the ONLY way to get a true reflection is to turn them all off.

German town abolishes traffic lights and codes. Accidents are now almost non-existent! In this fascinating public experiment, a German town wanted to see what would happen to traffic flow if they got rid of street signs, lights and other restrictions. The results are intuitive, but not what you would expect! Everything got safer and faster. Would this model hold true for other areas of infrastructure? Drivers must give way to the left and not drive too fast. That's the only rule. Even the police love the new system, and best of all, people are safer on the road. Drivers are much more aware and use eye contact and instincts. People WANT to stop for other people and help things move more efficiently. Full details here

Northolme Football Pitch and the madness that followed!
Colin James replied to bobby47's topic in Open Forum
I could not agree more bobby! The Hereford Mayor Phil Edwards was not happy also Liz Kelso (BRPC Clerk) and Councillor Adrian Bridges all had complaints against Councillor Vaughan-Powell and justice prevailed and the case was kicked out! What a waste of time and thank goodness Councillor Vaughan-Powell has proved hat she said and did nothing wrong! I know that she used extracts from Hereford Voice (with my permission) which helped. I wonder if they will look into the BRPC payments scandal now??? I wonder if any of these people will comment as two of them are members here and the other visits regular anyway, that I know for sure, so lets see... I have shared this topic out via Facebook and Twitter, all links you will find at the bottom of all topics, spread the word people!- 15 replies
