HIGHWAYS AGENCY News Release issued 14 November 2013 The A49/A4103 Starting Gate junction in Hereford will undergo improvement work next week thanks to a Highways Agency scheme. Work to widen the A4103 westbound approach will begin on Monday 18 November and subject to weather conditions, will last for four weeks. The scheme will increase capacity at this busy junction by creating a two lane approach to the roundabout. Other work will include resurfacing, new road markings, realignment of the roundabout and its four arms and new signage installation. The work will take place overnight from Mondays to Fridays between 10.15pm and 6.30am. In addition, some overnight work could also take place during the weekends and will be clearly signed with diversions in place. The scheme is part of a £317 million pinch point improvement programme designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion and improve safety on the strategic road network in England. The programme is part of the UK Government’s growth initiative, outlined during the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement in November 2011. The pinch point programme provides smaller scale improvements that can deliver big returns by easing congestion and making journey times more reliable for road users, including hauliers and commuters to help boost local economies and drive economic growth. Kevin Harvey, Pinch Point Project Manager, said: “The A49 Starting Gate roundabout gets very busy so I am sure motorists will welcome this work, to increase capacity and improve traffic flow. “While the work is ongoing, diversions will be in place and clearly signed. “We advise drivers to check local conditions and leave extra time for their journeys if necessary.†During the course of the work, traffic on the A4103 will be diverted to the A438 Newmarket Street junction via the A645 Aylestone Hill Road, joining the A49 northbound. As the work progresses, this diversion route will change and motorists using the A4103 will be directed to the A4110 and then the A438 White Cross Road to its junction with Victoria Street, where motorists can then continue to the A49 northbound. The same routes will apply for traffic travelling in the reverse direction. As the scheme nears its end, further diversions will be in place and clearly signed. More information about the work is available form the Highways Agency Information Line on telephone number 0300 123 5000 or by email to: ha_info@highways.gsi.gov.uk.

Pinch Point Scheme NOT Working at Traffic Lights!
Colin James replied to ragwert's topic in Open Forum
I will be happy when they have completed the lane guidance all the way around the island. I was in the middle lane wanting to go across to Belmont, there was a car in the BRAND NEW right hand lane which clearly states for A438 (Brecon or Whitecross Road) or to come back around the roundabout totally, however, as we approached Tesco's this car on my right decided to cut back across in front of me and continued towards the bridge, he actually ended up going to Tesco at Belmont! So I am hoping it will be better once the lane guidance is complete but time will tell. It's not the fault of the lines it's the DRIVERS! I agree a police presence for a while would help, even if that means handing out tickets!- 20 replies

Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
We had one here in Hereford, in fact it was Mr Rone himself, If my memory serves me well at his old pub The Treacle Mine, they used to have a late night burger van there but again, guess what, Hereford Council put a stop to that too!- 291 replies

I don't think anyone suggested just to bin it did they? it was merely pointed out that the current recycling does NOT cater for foil so DO NOT put silver foil or metal cartons into the green recycling bins, however, there are several places that you CAN recycle foil, Frank has highlighted these places in his reply.

A school has been forced to close because of an outbreak of Britain's most venomous spider. The Dean Academy, in the Forest of Dean, said it "had identified an issue with false widow spiders" in its ICT block and other areas of the site. A letter from vice principal Craig Burns to parents said the school would be shut on Wednesday to be fumigated. Conservationists believe a change in the climate could be the cause of an increase in sightings of the species. From the BBC website

Cannot Purchase Hot Food In Hereford City After 1.30am
Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
I want to start a campaign to get this changed, like I said, licensing laws were relaxed several years ago so there is no reason in my opinion that the food outlets have to close so early anymore.- 291 replies

I am also against domestic violence Chris, not sure what we can do to highlight this problem but I will tell you a little story. I work as a door supervisor in Hereford and have done for over 15 years (not so much these days) and I finished working one Friday night at around 2.30am and proceeded to drive home through town and over the bridge heading to Belmont where I live. I drove along the Belmont Road, more or less opposite Farm Foods and I noticed a man actually punching a woman in the face ( I assumed his wife or gf ) my instinct took over and I immediately stopped the car and ran over to stop him, he then started to attack me and I shouted what are you doing and restrained him, then all of a sudden his wife started to hit me shouting leave my F***king husband alone! The moral of this story is do not get involved I guess, however, sometimes there is no easy answer and I for one could not ignore someone being attacked, you could argue that you can only help those who ask for help I suppose, but what I will say is that a lot of men are abused too! I think you have totally forgot to mention that... or assumed from the tone of your post, that domestic violence implies that the perpetrator is always the man, which is not always the case sir! Domestic violence on men

They can't Roger. See the Envirosort Website Metals: Q. Can I put large metal sweet and biscuit tins in my recycling? A. Yes you can put large metal sweet and biscuit tins in your recycling. Please ensure the tin is empty and place the lid on the tin. Remember there is no need to squash the tin. Q. Why can I no longer put foil in my recycling? A. There are a number of reasons why you can no longer put foil in your recycling. Firstly, it acts like paper in the sorting process making it difficult to separate. It also accounts for a negligible amount of the commingled recycling (approx 0.001%) and would take up valuable storage space at EnviroSort which can be more beneficially used for other materials.
