Traffic light works in Hereford 4:33pm Friday 16th November 2012 Hereford Times REFURBISHMENT is to start next week on a set of traffic lights in Hereford. The overnight work on Eign Street will begin on Monday and will take around six weeks to complete. While the work is being undertaken, temporary traffic lights will be in operation and diversions in place. (I have reposted this article for megilleland as is was posted it in a seperate topic)

Thank you Glenda. The Hereford Times article misquoted me as I never mentioned leaving the lights on at night, they also mentioned the wrong traffic lights although the picture taken makes it obvious, IT IS NOT THE LIGHTS COMING OUT OF ASDA! It is the main traffic lights, infact I think this whole junction should be turned back into a proper roundabout. The also forgot the most important thing and that was they forgot to post the link to this webste so that people could sign the petition! So I was very frustrated, I have asked them to put an extra article in next weeks paper making the changes and adding a link.

Petition 'Turn Off Lights At Asda Junction Hereford'
Colin James replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
I am a little disappointed with the article in this weeks Hereford Times on page 16, where is the link to the petition? I have also been misquoted which is equally as frustrating. I have written to the reporter this morning;- 87 replies

TRAFFIC lights on one of the busiest roundabouts in Worcester could be turned off in a bid to make traffic flow better. See this article: BALLOT: Calls to turn off lights to help traffic gives interesting results.

That would be ideal!! lol There are some bigger signs up now as the others are only A4 - If any of you have Facebook or Twiiter account please share the link and spread the word, unless we get the signatures nobody is going to act!! There is also a feature going into the Hereford Times, following a letter that I wrote to the editor and BBC Hereford & Worcester have also shown an interest.- 87 replies

The Changing Face Of Hereford. The Subject We Fear To Discuss.
Colin James replied to bobby47's topic in Open Forum
I can see where the friction comes from because I guess some are being offfered housing instead of locals etc..unfortunately we are in the EU so there is not a lot that we can do about that. What annoy's me is that other european countries do not seem to adopt the same policies and laws as we do here in the UK but are still members of the EU, for example, Poland refused a total ban on smoking in doors but opted to have seperate smoking and non smoking area's like we used to have here, yet I was recently in Spain and they have the same law about smoking in doors as the UK. -

Bobby we are all one now...it's called 'Europe' and wether we like it or not we are in the 'European Union', you would be surprised how many other Europeans have moved to Poland, so although I think I see where you are coming from, others with argue your point. -

Well as my fiance is Polish I have a view of my own. As for east or in her case central euopean people taking our jobs... What a load of pish! The jobs were always there! Just that the majority of people in this country did not want them! My argument to this is, if every european person that has arrived into the UK in the past 5 years went back to their native country would the unemployed go from over 2.5 million to zero? No! Because people in this country have no incentive to work! STOP THEIR BENEFITS like they do in other european country's and then they have no choice other than to find work! I was in Istanbul earlier this year and they have no freebies handed out to them over there, yet most people seem to be happy going about their day to day lives. I have always worked, never claimed dole, yet recently I went to the doctor as I was unwell, he gave me a prescription. I asked my gf if she would collect it from the Tesco Pharmacy for me and I gave her £15, she asked me 'what is the money for', so I explained it was to pay for my prescription, she then said 'but you work, how come you have to pay?' I said yes I have to pay, you only get it free if you don't work and are in receipt of benefits, she was shocked at this and said 'but you pay National Insurance so what is that for?' lol she then told me that we have it all the wrong way around as in Poland if you work your prescription would be free and you only pay if you don't work... funny that eh.. -

I totally agree and I see exactly where you are coming from with regards to the Hereford Times, stories are printed and yet nothing is done about it. Shops are closing and the city centre is becoming empty! High business rates do not help either and the council do nothing to encourage new business's. I refer to my article published in a recent edition of the Hereford Times with regard to not being able to purchase hot food in town after 1.30am!! http://belmontvoice....ty-after-130am/ how pathetic is that? Some takeaway's and restaurants rely on this business. Then we have the never ending traffic situation coming into the city for which I have now created a petition to trn off the traffic lights at the Asda junction, ou can register and sign the petition here http://councillors.h...istDisplay.aspx so far we only have 13 signatures come on folks sign it and lets get this traffic moving! please also share this link with others. This is another reason people avoid coming to Hereford. Then we have the look and the approach to the city especially coming in on the A465, overgrown tree's that prevent you actually seeing any sign posts, and WEEDS! It's embarrassing and not very welcoming, just take a look at Ledbury you are welcomed with a roundabout full in bloom and well kept, here you are welcomed with happy birthday sheets off someones bed that are left for weeks and uncut grass and overgrown bushes.

Hopefully this junction will be sorted once and for all, especially if we can get those traffic lights turned off or even turn them off for 3 months as a trial to prove that is what is required.
