I would like to personally thank Nick for his massive contribution to Hereford and for all of the hard work he has put in over the years, enjoy your well deserved retirement, you will be missed my friend and I look forward to joining you later for your retirement reception.
  2. The salt bins are due for delivery next Tuesday these should then be in place by Friday at the latest. This is great news!
  3. Hereford's historic city centre Green Dragon hotel has gone on the market for £3.5million with Bristol estate agents Christie and Co. it is the largest hotel in the city centre. Some interesting history: Owen Tudor On 2nd February 1461, during the Wars of the Roses, a Lancastrian force, including Bretons and Frenchmen, was intercepted and defeated by the Yorkist Edward, Earl of March at the Battle of Mortimer's Cross, 25 kilometres north-west of Hereford. One of the Lancastrian leaders, Owen Tudor, was captured and taken into Hereford. Owen was a high-ranking nobleman - he had married Catherine of France, the widow of Henry V. Legend tells that it was at the forerunner of the Green Dragon Hotel in Broad Street that Edward stayed with his prisoner after the battle. The next day Owen was taken out to be beheaded in the market place (High Town). At first Owen was unable to believe that he would be executed - but when the collar of his red velvet doublet was ripped off he accepted his fate saying "that head shall lie on the block that was wont to lie on Queen Catherine's lap". Owen was called ‘the handsomest man in England’, which might have inspired what followed. His head was placed on the market cross where a madwoman combed his hair and washed the blood from his face. She lit more than a hundred candles, which she placed around the cross. Owen's body was afterwards buried in a chapel of the Greyfriars priory just outside the town. Owen Tudor was the great-grandfather of Henry VIII. Edward (later King Edward IV) was himself Henry's grandfather. Edward was back in Hereford that September, by now the battle of Towton had been fought and he was King of England. #herefordvoice
  4. Committee decision today - Supersams and Mila shops licence REVOKED
  5. Yes that bothers me too, never realised real Coyote Fur and real Racoon Fur was being used.
  6. This is great news for locals and will prove to be a valuable asset to the community centre during the summer months.
  7. Salt Bins approved for Sydwall Road and Glastonbury Close following request to the BRPC.
  8. Thank you Adrian, it was good to meet you all on site and I appreciate all of the positive efforts that the majority of councillors have put in to make this happen. As you could all see from the site visit the Salt Bins are very much needed and will be a massive help during the winter months when ice is on the ground. This close is a real nightmare with the long slope and severe sharp bend with the adverse camber, these Salt Bins will be very welcome by all who live in the close.
  9. Red carpet opening for new designer store Flannels Designer store Flannels rolled out the red carpet and celebrated in style with a VIP launch party in Hereford on Commercial Street last night. The glittering guest list included Paralympian gold medal winner Sascha Kindred, Hereford’s local Mayor Jim Kenyon and Mike Truelove from the city’s Business Improvement District, along with a wealth of other guests from the local business community. Each guest was given an envelope on arrival, with one lucky attendee finding enclosed a gift card and personal shopping experience worth £1,000. Local customer Heather Hodgetts was the lucky £1000 winner and didn’t take long to buy her festive treats. The luxury retailer treated guests to a night of music, food and drinks showcasing brands such as Versus Versace, Stone Island, Kenzo, Giuseppe Zanotti, Michael Michael Kors and many more! Photographer: Phil Oldham @ Rex Photography Jenna Triscott Flannels Marketing Manager said: “It’s fantastic to see so many people here supporting our opening night.” “We’re really excited and proud to be part of the Hereford retail landscape offering the area the best shopping and luxury fashion experience.” Guests enjoyed a champagne reception and tasty canapés were served up by Cellar Door. Entertainment came in the form of a fashion showcase with models from Gingersnap and music from local DJ’s Street Sellers. Flannels is one of the UK’s leading luxury fashion retailers. The new 14,600 square foot store spans two floors and stocks both men’s and women’s luxury clothing, footwear and accessories, in addition to a dedicated space for children’s wear. The first Flannels store opened in Knutsford, Cheshire in 1976 and since then the company has successfully introduced designer fashion largely to the North West and Midlands regions. The opening will bring Flannels to Hereford and is a landmark moment for the company which already has a chain of successful stores in Manchester, Liverpool, Plymouth, Leeds, Birmingham, Sunderland, Swindon, Cardiff, Newcastle, Nottingham and Southport.
  10. ***** IRAQI & KURDISH owned shops raided again! ***** All of these shops hide behind names such as: Polski Sklep, Zabka, International Food, Kubus and Super Sams to name just a few and to be totally honest NONE of the shops that have been raided over the past few years including those in Eign Gate Hereford mentioned above have ever been Polish owned! The Polish community have been unfairly tarnished and labelled causing divide within the community unnecessarily. This topic has been created to highlight these issues and if you click on ANY of the past police and trading standards raids listed below within this topic, you will clearly see that all of the shops and businesses mentioned are not owned by Polish people and the only connection is the produce that they sell, alongside produce from many other nations. Sometimes the staff employed maybe Polish or European to help sell these products. Some of these shops even have the cheek to steal their names and the logo's from big corporate legit Polish companies and appear to get away with that too! Names like Zabka, Kubus and Biedronka are all large Polish companies and brands. The ONLY Polish owned shop in Hereford as far as we are aware is Edysia at the very bottom of Eign Gate (opposite Peacocks) Here is a list of previous raids in Hereford along with the names of the people prosecuted or facing prosecution. International Food Mr Rekan Gafoor Zabka Mr Ali Omar Shukir Zabka Mr Zardashit Karem Salh European Food Mr Mohammed Bakhtyer Mila & Supersams Mr Heman Jamel
  11. I was informed only yesterday that Mila is STILL selling quantities of cigarettes but only to foreign people (not English). Someone I know purchased 400, so they need a re-visit.
  12. This only applies to the upper floors Alex, my point is more about 'new residents' in former retail units complaining in the future because of noise, lighting from adjacent businesses or people making a noise walking through town etc etc I have no real objection about turning these upper floors into residential apartments but I do think there should be a clause in place to protect high town and it's businesses.
  13. The council are far too soft with some of these stores, a quick appeal or a new application in a different persons name and all of sudden they have a licence again!
  14. Proposed plans have been submitted to convert the former Johnson's Dry Cleaners, first, second and third floors from retail space to residential apartments. We need to look at the bigger picture, the city centre will face no end of objections for future planning applications from RESIDENTS when businesses what to put up illuminated signs and extend business hours to accommodate functions in restaurants and bars etc, this happened recently when Yates applied to extend their opening hours (they won the court case in the end) and they received objections from the flats next door. We should keep the city centre as a city centre and protect the businesses now and in the future, either that or a clause should be put in place for all new planning applications to cover new builds/conversions to prevent such objections, in other words, if you rent/buy a property in the city centre don't complain when the local business wants to put up an illuminated sign or extend their opening hours etc Planning application here
  15. Hereford Express in Foley Lane are having their licence reviewed due to selling cigarettes and alcohol to underage people. Full details can be found here
  16. Yes I saw this happening and that Mila shop had already been reported. I have heard they have lost their alcohol license? What ever happened to the license appeal for Kubus?
  17. What about the other people I mentioned, they should receive the same!
  18. On the flip side of this, using a mobile phone when an accident happens is relatively easy to prove but what about the non traceable events such as people driving with dogs on their laps and people turning around dealing with their naughty kids or the driver who is messing around with his satnav which quite often is on the screen directly in the field of vision duh! Or the driver who leans across to the glove box to find a new cd... Mobile phones is the easier option to prosecute...
  19. No Steve! A salt bin is not required, as apparently the road is flat Having lived in Glastonbury Close since the houses were built over 26 years ago I can assure people that the road is definitely NOT FLAT! There is a bloody great slope all the way down, HENCE the bloody request to the BRPC. This low cost request was denied (probably because it was my request) so I am just waiting now for an accident to happen and then I will probably write to a few people. It is -7c this morning and the road is like an ice rink!
  20. Not sure of the costs yet but she will not fly this is now a static display
