  1. This is why I have highlighted it Rog, we can't be having no go zones in Hereford. This could easily be turned around with additional lighting a lick of pain and a mirror each end so that people entering can see if anyone is stood there. CCTV would be good too.
  2. The Eign Gate / Victoria Street underpass is not much better as you can see from these photographs. Again, additional brighter lighting is needed here giving people better visibility all around.
  3. The Greyfriars and Eign Gate underpasses are both in desperate need of some TLC. I took these photographs this evening and as you can see, it is very dark here, half the lights are not working. The lights that are 'out of order' are numbers 1 (entrance) 4, 5, 8 and 9 (on the exit). Look how dark the Greyfriars underpass is from Greyfriars end This underpass is in need of some new bright LED lighting throughout and on both entrances including the pathway leading to the actual underpass. I think the council need to provide a safe environment for residents and this feels far from safe as it stands. There is no CCTV coverage here either, this needs addressing sooner rather than later.
  4. which is all part of of aim and the best part is that WE ARE ONLY ASKING FOR A TRAIL!

  6. Martin has written a great little article here
  7. The library in Hereford has been closed for 4 weeks now. Do we have any idea when it may re-open?
  8. West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault which occurred at on Commercial Road in Hereford in the early hours of Sunday 20 September. At approximately 3.30am the victim, a man in his twenties, was outside the Kings Fee and BBQ and Brews pubs, when he was assaulted by four or five men. He was thrown to the floor and kicked in the face. As a result he lost four teeth. One of the offenders was described as a white man of medium build, approximately 5"9, wearing a medium jumper. The victim was unable to get a detailed description of the other offenders but saw that they were white men. Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 460 of 21st September. Alternatively contact the independent charity crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting the website
  9. It is good to see The Saracens Head open again. It looked busy too to be fair.
  10. I posted this topic about CCTV on the Great Western Way Hereford on our Facebook Page on September 24th. This has reached over 24,000 people, we have had over 500 Likes and the topic was shared over 100 times, all of this in less than two weeks! We continue to grow our audience

  12. I think Initially I would prefer to keep it to the city but depending on it's success we could then look at expansion later on. I am also keen to involve local producers farmers etc..
  13. Yes and the good news is they can be open until 2am
  14. Herefordshire Council met with representatives of the owners of the fire damaged buildings in High Town, Hereford on Thursday 1 October and is encouraged by their willingness to facilitate a sale to enable the site to be redeveloped. The council can confirm that Hereford based architect Hook Mason Ltd has now been instructed to seek pre-application advice from the council’s planning service to obtain a more marketable development with the aim of selling the property and bringing the buildings back into use as soon as possible.
  15. Thanks Mick. I am still thinking about the name but Hereford Ale Festival or Hereford Festival of Ale or something long those lines. I thought Hereford Festival initially but I am sure other members will come up with some alternative suggestions but we could just keep it simple as that.
  16. What we need in Hereford is our very own Hereford Festival with local ales and cider. An annual weekend starting Saturday 12 noon ending Sunday 5pm as an example. The idea would be to use existing local pubs each would have a live band at various time slots throughout the weekend, food could be available, burgers, hot dogs, curries etc. We could explore having a bus service running between the various pubs at 20-30 minute intervals. Something similar to festivals in other towns. We need to get Hereford as an annual venue for a great festival. A printed programme with advertisers also listing all the performance times of bands, singers etc and lists of local ales and ciders would be available for £2 or £3 per copy. Come on people, give me your ides's and let's get our very own Hereford Festival and make our city the place to be next summer!
  17. Just to let you know, I have today made my good friend DILLIGAF a Moderator. He is well experienced using forums and will assist me in the daily running of HV. Although he is still a member here, can you please all make him welcome in his new role too. DILLIGAF will be there to assist you all in my absence.
  18. Only retailers that employ more than 250 full-time workers will need to begin charging their customers, and paper bags can continue to be handed out for free.
  19. Adrian this is quite common in business and often free rent from private landlords is part of a new lease during sensible negotiations. I know when I had a carpet shop I managed to get free rent for the first 6 months.
  20. Ah yes, never thought of that, of course.
  21. I think you will find Glenda that they too will have 12 months free, taking over a new unit, so their rates will come into effect next October.
  22. To be fair to Tony at the Galleon he has met most of the criteria required, as long as future applicants show the same I see no real reason why other restaurants/takeaways would be refused. I do however agree with DILLGAF comments: "Let's just hope that Tony is not jeopardised by some clowns scrapping on the meadows at 5am with chips in hand! That'll be enough evidence to ensure his license is revoked" How this would be the fault of the restaurant owner is beyond me but it is an 'excuse' and an excuse maybe all that the Council seek in such events.
