Well what can I say, other than a huge THANK/ YOU! To everyone who joined for the Great Western Way Clean Up. This was really a brilliant example of a community working together. We had senior Police Officers, Police Cadets, Community Support Officers, over 10 Councillors, several members from Hereford Voice, the Hereford Mayor and an army of volunteers from within the community. We have made a big improvement along here and cleared away lots of overgrown trees and bushed allowing more light in. This event I would like to run every year so that we can keep on top of this. Here are just a few photographs I managed to grab.

Yes I noticed last week it was all open again but I was driving and could not grab a photo, will try later.

haha I will get that sorted now

I only have one bin in my kitchen, I just rinse and gather a small amount of recycling and take out into the recycle bin, it's really not that much effort in all honesty.

Yes we identified that area when I was out with Jim Kenyon and Anthony Powers. If this is not done by the close of play this afternoon it will be tackled hopefully on Sunday.

You are correct Denise. I took the quote below from the Governments website here -
I have just received the official press release from Dan Guerche (Manager)

Challenge me all you like dippy, a good friend of mine had personal experiences with several of these regular drinkers not so long ago, so yes in my opinion some of these people (not all) are vermin.

Maybe your right but someone could be just as easily attacked on the King George Playing Fields or any other quite areas at night. Local people are obviously reluctant to walk along the GWW at night, especially in light of the terrible recent murder. We certainly do not want this area portrayed as a no go area and the police and local councillors share the same view. We are trying to get some community spirit here with this clear up project and put a positive spin on a bad situation, unfortunately, negative comments end up doing more harm than good.

A nice positive response Roger. We have asked for additional lighting and even more CCTV camera's too. It is not about congratulating ourselves it is about trying to make a difference in our community and getting the local people involved. Funds are low we know, so this project is fantastic in my opinion. It will not solve all of the problems but it will go a long way to making people feel just that bit safer along the GWW.

Herefordshire Council is pleased to announce that WM Housing has been selected as preferred partner for the demolition and redevelopment of the former LEA Swimming Pool on Hollybush Walk, Hereford. The housing association will develop a scheme to provide much needed affordable housing on the site. The pool had long term serious structural defects and had to be closed in 2009. The cost of bringing the pool back into use has recently been estimated at around £5million. As a result the council reluctantly agreed to dispose of the site in July 2015. Following a tendering process, WM Housing has put together a proposed scheme which includes eight affordable homes. Discussions are currently taking place with neighbouring school, St Martin’s Primary School, and school children, school staff and residents will shortly be invited to an event to consider the plans. Councillor Harry Bramer, cabinet member for contracts and assets, said: “We are delighted to be working with WM Housing on this development which will bring more affordable housing to the area. Local residents and the school community will shortly be invited to have a look at the plans, make suggestions and share ideas. It is anticipated that the existing buildings will be demolished in April 2016, so that building work can begin soon afterwards.â€

Congratulations goes to the Crown at Woolhope winner of the Cider Pub of the Year award 2015. Remember where you heard it first!

A lot of that area was cleared today. A few large tree's were removed in order to let in much needed light. Most of the clearing was actually large bushes or young branches on trees.
