  1. It's also worth noting that within the same period of time land has been earmarked within South Worcestershire for over 30,000 houses.
  2. Not yet Dippy but I'm in favour particularly for traffic passing through or around the city on a new road. For those of us who find it necessary to travel using major road networks I think it will come...expensive but it makes you think.I use the severn crossing about four times a month on the return from the southwest and in commercial vehicle that's over £40 per month.
  3. I don't disagree Denise. My ideal would be to reduce the number of new houses and increase garden or open spaces that come with them but as you say they will sit on sites or prod away at the local planning authority until they give in and ok 5 or 10 more.. I recently took a trip down to a new development at Ross just off the old A40. Properties for families they are not..green space what green space. The brochure never looks like the finished article and I do believe this County deserves better as there is the space and the right balance can be achieved.
  4. Heh Amanda I do grasp the nettle so to speak after all how many comparisons can be whipped out a medical bag particularly in reference to bypass, stenosis, preventative mechanisms and so on. Reports, analysis, thesis are all very well however in this world today the car is the definitive method of transport and until such time as we find a different way of getting about this won't change and the number of vehicles on UK roads will increase along with population growth. Another sad irony is that I have family friends whose children remain at home as they move into their late twenties because they can't afford a place of their own so what do these young adults do. Well they go out and purchase a perceived better mode of transport because they don't have the financial commitments of house or family to worry about. What might have been a fuel efficient family saloon becomes a sports coupe. I'm sure that many an individual has provided thought provoking studies on sustainable ways on getting about however we are but a fickle race and for many just having a decent phone and four wheels is all some care about particularly if owning your own home is just an unrealistic dream. That's our true western ideology sadly.
  5. It's never going to happen not in this County Denise we have a local example here in Tupsley/Hampton. It's pretty much a year now since Gladman Developments got planning for 100 homes here. Since then they have sold on the 'package' to Barratt who have just submitted a request for amendments, a decision on which won't be made until August. Even if accepted whose to say they won't start building until early 2016. That's just 100 home. It could be the back end of 2016/7 before completed. Just one other thing purely from a commercial standpoint it would not be in the interest of these companies to flood the local housing market with new boxes because it could affect the selling prices particularly when the industry or governments both nationally and locally are unsure about economic development. Yes there's been a lot of talk about housing numbers and sure just at this time if I was a builder I'd want to get my name down however building them well that's another story altogether. This won't stop the increase in our traffic though because external factors outside this County are now playing a part in that.
  6. Ah Amanda...Well I'm not going to go around 'the houses' with you on this subject again so just carry on and do nothing and see how bad things will become after all we have noticed a surge in traffic recently and you certainly can't blame massive house building or new roads around here for that.I'm sure all those villages like Mordiford will be delighted with your mindset and an absolute guaranteed vote winner for the IOC next time round. For every one individual that does not want their little world to change there are thousands crying out for a better life.. you know what that does not sit right with me.
  7. The problem for me is that I have heard your argument before. Winchester could lay claim to all your points and more after all an ancient capital of England, Roman Roads, chalk downland and chalk stream rivers...I could go on but it's a battle between growth population and our environment and how best the two can co-habit and there are no easy answers. Winchester as a city is probably just two fields away from being assimilated into the urban sprawl of what has become known as Solent City. Herefordshire at best could become an outdoor playground for leisure and recreation which I would embrace however as one of the few remaining low population areas in England we can't avoid or resist the inevitable population growth which will surge as can already be seen in our schools. I would much rather prepare for this in a sustainable controlled manner which takes into account our environment than resist. I don't want to see anymore waisted public money for an unstoppable flood of people is coming unless of course you feel that Herefordshire is just for Herefordians and in this case I would suggest that half its current population can't be called that sadly myself included. I am no nimby however just because I've got a foot in the door I have no desire to shut the door behind me for there is still room for more. We just need to adapt and have a simpler more practical lifestyle, be less demanding and selfish and get away from this materialistic ideology. As a country we all need to pull our weight and sadly for Herefordshire we are where we are today because we have kept out the flood for a long time but the old dam is creaking and about to collapse. Our failure to relieve the pressure means that when it bursts we will see massive changes to our environment as the flood of people runs through our byways but it is not apocalyptic just sadly more noticeable.
  8. I know mate I could not resist it!..I went on a ragwort pull once..bloody hard work and before you say anything it was voluntary!
  9. I don't disagree Cloudberry so I'm delighted to hear about the preservation of the farm near Kington where traditional methods of farming were maintained for hundreds of years though not all Herefordshire is the same. Some would argue that as a County we have been protected from development thus far compared to other neighbours on the east side. We have discussed this before but I have been surprised that the level of biodiversity in Herefordhsire is not as great in my opinion as that in somewhere like Dorset or Wiltshire or chalk download aside perhaps Oxfordshire. My personal birdcount is still less here than say Hampshire yet I would have thought with such opportunities of landscape you would expect to see a multitude of farmland birds yet this is not the case. I am a big fan of corridors and have seen the benefits of hedging, treelines even more recently canals and railways so who is to say that another way over the Wye could create such benefits. I purchased my copy of "The Birds in Herefordshire" published last year. A great naturalists reference tool. In answer to your question I have not completed the walk for a long time but was lucky once to find Ragged Robin in the hedgerow...That's Ragged Robin not Ragwert lurking in the hedgerow!
  10. Could only open two of the three said e-mails from members of the public. So here would be my fly in the ointment Jean. At this time there is no bridge but what if at the last minute out of nowhere a bridge was thrown in on the west side as part of the deal with a 2nd stage plan around the corner to drive on the concept of completing a western bypass up to the A49 @ Holmer? With planning considerations already in for Holmer,Three Elms and Whitecross before we even get started around this relief road it might just be that those in the know have been deliberately setting this up so that people will feel that victory has been achieved if at the last moment a bridge gets thrown in. There is a common consensus that both English and Welsh governments are keen to continue A465 dual carriageway from Abergavenny to Hereford and this western bypass would move non local traffic around the city. We just need to be prepared for this plan which might be difficult to argue. Without a bridge this is a non starter however include a bridge then there will be a lot less resistance.
  11. Interestingly though the vote is running in reverse to ours!
  12. So with this being a favourite rat run for many coming across from South Bank Road/Bodenham Road ( my wife included ) what will be the plan now..add to the traffic along Folly Lane, Venns Lane?Based on the destination of the new road and the bridge pinchpoint that's one road we will rarely use.
  13. I'm not on the council but if I were new in post for the first time as a newbie if you like I would seek guidance and take advice from anyone with the experience and knowledge of a said topic.Once digested I would ground out my take on the intelligence provided and make my own judgement good or bad. As for Council well everyone would be treated with respect but suspicion until such time as I have formed my own conclusions never done in haste. In law we are still innocent until proven guilty however I treat all politicians as self serving individuals until proven otherwise. It is my understanding Glenda that both Chris and your good self served your wards well which should be the most important point. It is a shame about what's happened however dirty tricks have always been part of a political candidates armoury..It's up to the individual to use them and the electorate to accept them and the victim to fight back if they feel obliged. GK is right Adrian was another good councillor but perhaps for now that,s Hereford Voices gain.
  14. Around my time as well Roger. I actually believe the shorter the question ..the closed probe if you like makes it more difficult to answer. A community whatever the size is good thing to be a part of but only when it is of benefit to everyone within it and not just a select few. I agree with Dippy in the dangers of division. Many still cannot see or perhaps want to ignore the stress fractures that are occurring but in the end when a true break occurs you are left in immeasurable pain and this can be distressing even for the unattached onlooker.
  15. For me it's not straightforward and if presented with a referendum voting slip with a simple in/out then it's a bloody difficult decision. I believe in the original ideal of what the European union was supposed to be about but over time the self creating beurocrats bedded in like they do in governments, councils and the like...the same has happened with the NHS and each one of these ticks, sucks the life out of its host until one day when they have gorged themselves stupid they drop off and away in the breeze and wallow in their greed. I had hoped that a Commenwealth model with the benefits of free trade and independent legal guidance would have been enough so where did it go wrong? For now it's a vote to remain for me ..however like others above I want changes but more than anything I want to maintain my identity, and remain knight of my own castle and if I'm having a bad day I can pull up the drawbridge anytime I like. I'm digging out the moat I'm asking my parishioners to come inside the walls because the neighbours are restless. The European Union is like a castle and we can feel safer within its defining walls but should we stand alone as we have done before are we strong enough, do we still have the courage of the past for we are a different divided country now. Perhaps we shall see!
  16. Because I believe they will continue to knock your door Glenda because that's what people do when know their is someone who will listen. The trouble is just sometimes those that listen occasionally need an ear as well so if can be of service I will do my best to help.

  18. Circle did get a taste of running an acute hospital and the didn't like why....Well it's difficult to budget for emergency procedures and maternity services which I think they have at Hinchinbrooke. Insurance companies don't like the risk elements either!
  19. It's a terrible wheel but one that turns round and around Dazza. We both know that the best solution is to pay a good salary but again another common trick seen in the past is to raise salaries based on scales, incremental levels, bands call them what you will and then review some time later and then trim down. That's been going on since the late eighties and won't end any time soon. It comes back to my biggest fear which is the ultimate privatisation of the NHS and as an old timer I don't wish to see. I became part of it back in the late 197o,s not because of money or career but because it's what I wanted out of life and I enjoyed it. More money meant more hours 24/36 hour shifts in theatres and weekends that went on and on but it was a buzz an honourable profession which one way or the other I've secured a career out of. After all not many people could say that they installed an anaesthetic machine in a Scandinavian charity hospital half way up the Ho Chi Min trail with little Vietnamese kids pressing their English language skills upon you whilst their conical shaped school hats are repositioned by an ever grateful teacher whose thankful that you bought the means that their child can now have their cleft lip repaired. If the NHS is privatised by stealth many will be left behind and that will be a tragedy. That said there may come a time when difficult decisions will have to be made and your right it's not just agency staff... no it will be the pension bill that will ultimately cripple it.
  20. We went off topic Dazza but healthcare in this County will be a major concern to all including our local council.
  21. Been to Manilla and seen them..It's an industry chap but I did not see the benefits to their local hospitals. Most qualify and head to UK or Australia( if they can get in).
  22. Again I can't disagree mate. PFI was a quick fix at time for the man with blue eyes but like quick loans you pay a high price ultimately.
