Denise, I totally agree with your comments, not all pensioners own their own homes, without their bus passes it would cost them from Newton Farm, Redhill, Hunderton and Putson £2 each way to go into town. If they lose their passes it cost them £10 to get them renewed, there is also another way to look at this if pensioners can't afford the fares they will be house bound do we really want that? will get off my soapbox now!

This has been on the cards for years. In 2003 when I launched my Wyes Moves community bus service across South Wye from Belmont to Rotherwas taking in every estate on the way, First won the contract to run the service for us, they immediately withdrew all commercial services across South Wye, and my group had to decide whether we just had a service for the community or change it to enable people to go into town which we did. The Wyes Moves service was only to run for three years but with careful handling of the money £900,000 it went on until 2011. I very much doubt if the service will continue to Belmont now as that service was part of Wyes Moves community service.

These lights were installed last week in Newton Farm without being told they just came along and put them in. When I was a councillor in the old Belmont ward, the people up there didn't like them I had numerous complaints, I told the council not to install them in Newton Farm or Hunderton without asking the people if they wanted them, they didn't do that, but when has this Tory council listened to the people? we had no letters at all. the one across the road from me is shining in my bedroom window keeping me awake.

Disposal of Public Open Space land at Newton Farm
Glenda Powell replied to megilleland's topic in Newton Farm
The land at Northolme Road asset transfer is the Northolme centre, car park and I believe the play area (but not sure about play area site) as i said previously, now I have seen the map it does look like the Shaw walkway and the football pitches at the top of Newton Farm.- 5 replies

Disposal of Public Open Space land at Newton Farm
Glenda Powell replied to megilleland's topic in Newton Farm
trying to figure this out, it looks like the Shaw walkway the right hand side of the skate park to the Belmont pools which also takes in the football pitches at the top of Newton Farm. the Large area looks like the skate park land but that belongs to Herefordshire Housing. I did hear last September of a group of people that wanted to take over the football pitches and changing rooms at the top of Newton Farm because I asked to be kept informed but have not heard anything until this post.- 5 replies

having just read all the comments on HT website about this young man, I totally agree with the posters comments, it is bad enough this has happened without knowing about his last minutes on this earth, and think of his family feelings, they are devistated they don't need to know this. I will also add that in my opinion this story should never have apeared on HV there are some stories that should never be put on here and this is one of them. My condolences goes out to Christian family.

I could not attend last night due to a prior engagement. Conflicting opinions here some saying it was good others disappointed, how many councillors were invited and attended, also how many of the general public was there?. I have read the comments from Roberta Edwards doesn't seem to be from her, their home in Belmont is bordering onto a field close to Belmont Pools and Haywood Lane so with a road 8 metres high it may not be visible from their home but the noise will be very loud. when she worked for the council around 2003-2005 she was with the environment department and her husband that she has now was the cabinet member for the environment.

In the post about locality manager report of works to be or have been done on GWW there are trees that have died and are coming down also with the new development at the Oval there will be houses bordering on the GWW so more people around, and lights from these properties will be on, making the GWW more light. In regard to the tram if Herefordshire council was interested they would of gone with Mr Heinz offer all those years ago but they didn't. In my oppinion (others may disagree with me) but unless the idea comes from the council they are not interested!

I totally agree, that is why I have fought for 5 years to get CCTV up there, a bit late for this young man!
-
Roger, see my post 20, CCTV is being installed in September. I have signed the petition.
-
Just before the election I had worked with the CCTV people and the commissioner of police to get CCTV on the GWW, I was successful and it is being installed by September. although other people will no doubt take credit for this when its installed.

I have been told by one tenant they have written over a week ago to Phil Edwards about these charges, he has not answered them. As I said in my post 25, I am looking to start a resident association if these tenants/homeowner will join the association I will be able to look into the matter for them.
-
I have made some enquiries today and the grey properties facing Belmont road are flats. during my conversation it was confirmed that the Hub will not be built because there was no one to run it. Other alterations in and around the Oval are being discussed I have been told when they are confirmed I will be advised what they are. There is some information coming out for HHL tenants in the latest newsletter which will be sent out soon. On another point I have asked if I can start up a residents association for the people of Newton Farm, including the people living in the new houses, so anyone interested in this please contact me via my contact details on my website or glendapowell@outlook.com

That is discusting that was never mentioned when I was a member of the steering group and management group because I would of kicked up a mighty fuss. There will be another open space when the contractors porta cabins are removed, I have heard but it was not verified that there will be an open air gym on the site. As the new councillor for Newton Farm, Phil Edwards is also the chairman of the Oval development steering group I suggest you get in touch with him, that said he will probably side with HHL.he is very friendly with Paula Kennedy.

Roger, we did all that when I was dealing with it, because I told them to keep notes which they did, they showed the notes to myself Herefordshire Housing and police, the police also told Herefordshire Housing they had made a raid on the flat. I arranged a meeting with the tenants away from the flats but HH did not come to the meeting when I invited them.
-
I was dealing with this problem before the election at Villa Street, the police did attend and I also contacted Herefordshire Housing who the flat belongs to. It is Chris Chappell ward now so contact him, Glenda

I have been a member of this website from when it started, as it has changed we have lost some of the original posters because they preferred it at the begining when it was for the people of Belmont. To be fair to Colin he is very fair to the posters, some of the time I would of banned some of them, but he didn't. This website changed when the ones who joined from the HT because they were barred from there. Colin does an excellent job of running this website so lets have less of the criticism!!!

Cabinet control of Herefordshire Council could end soon
Glenda Powell replied to megilleland's topic in Open Forum
that was exactly what happened for all the wrong reasons, everyone wanted the Tories out and the way they thought it would happen is that every group put a candidate up in every ward, there were five in Newton Farm, and only two including myself live in Newton Farm, the other three who stood two live in belmont and one north of the river, the Tory came in third. It did not help when two Independents stood against each other, and the one played a dirty tricks campaign right from the begining, and that is why he won! unfortunately for the residents he has not been seen on the ward since the election.- 70 replies

Cabinet control of Herefordshire Council could end soon

Dippy, yes the number of councillors on committee's have to be proportionate in regard to the size of the groups, these seats are discussed with the leaders of ALL parties, and the leaders recommend councillors to each committee, that said the seats are allocated by the Leader of the council Cllr Johnson who may not agree with the party leaders recommendations and put councillors somewhere else. When I was a councillor I was put on the health & social care scrutiny committee because I had 12 years experience in that field, I was also on Regulatory where you had to go through rigulous training to be on there, and the employment panel, in 2007 I was vice chair of planning, but that changed in 2011. Which ever committee you are put on you should have some experience / knowledge of that committee's work. Since May 7 I have found out that the Independents DID NOT snuggle up to the Tories because many of the group did not get the committee they asked for.The majority of councillors on these committee's are Tories, they always have the highest number of seats because they are the larges group on the council (blame the people that voted them back in) Because the Tories are the ruling party they have decided the cabinet and members will stay in place. It is surprising what you hear and find out when you are no longer one of them, and what I have heard in the past 6 weeks I am glad I'm not one of them now!- 70 replies

I must admit I was disappointed with last nights meeting, to much time given to past history and the Thatchers years ,not enough time for what the meeting was supposed to be about SC2. The past is the past, we are in the here and now. In regard to Jesse Norman he supports the eastern route and always have done. I was expecting to see members of the council there, but it was not their meeting so obviously they would not come or any of the south wye councillor's. It was a pity the one Cllr who supports the SC2 wasn't there he would of seen how much people are against it, but maybe that is why he didn't come. I feel to get people to another meeting the meeting should be about this road and nothing else. Jean I enjoyed our conversation last night on the way home. Greenknight I know who you are now I was told you were the person speaking to Martin. Never mind speak to me next time.

I would think the Leader of the council will be there, also the cabinet member for transportation and roads Paul Rone,(Cllr for Redhill) if all south wye councillors attend there should be six of them, Edwards,( who supports this road ,with its boulevarde of trees and bus/cycle lane) Chappell 2 Tories and one IOC. Hope as many of you from HV like myself will attend this very important meeting, It should be a momentous occasion I am waiting for the fireworks to start.

You may be right about the continual divide, over recent years there has been more problems north of the city than south of the river. I am not saying south Wye is perfect but thats down to some of the people living here. South Wye people are very protective of where they live and like living here!
