Newton Farm Ward and your choice of Independent candidates.
Glenda Powell replied to bobby47's topic in Newton Farm
Gridknocker, in reference to your post 20, the powers that be did not put two Independents against each other, that is solely down to Cllr Edwards who said he would stand against me in this election, He was advised not to do that from the Independent leaders and other members of the council, but he was adamant he was standing against me, with I believe the sole intention of my not being re-elected. He has resorted to a "dirty tricks" campaign against me, but the decision is not his to make but the electorate! I have been told today he does not like what Colin has done by putting up his leaflet and the comments that has derived from it. -
Mikefitz, I am an Independent, that would never happen

Jeanharris, when this road was first suggested back in 2004 it had a river crossing as well, now the plans have change also the direction of the road I do not support it anymore, like yourself I am opposed to the destruction of the woods and Oak trees also as it stands now it simply will not relieve the congestion on the A465, some mornings when I open my curtains the traffic has built up and at a standstill outside my home in Newton Farm. Alas the other councillor recently moved to Newton Farm supports it.

to answer your question Flam, not often also getting him on the phone is rare, but he has answered my email, or instruct someone else to answer me. Also I am interested in your wanting to see my leaflet especially as you don't live in Newton Farm

Maggie May, the Inspectors Inquiry into the Core Strategy at Belmont Hedley Lodge is the result of the consultation as she was not pleased that the information was not up to date, therefore she ordered a consultation. She was aware of the poudar period, but she had the authority as a government inspector to call for the consultation in the poudar period.

Belmont: there is an Independent, Conservative and IOC. Newton Farm: two Independent (which one is me) Lib Dem, Conservative and IOC. If you look on the other post for Herefordshire council candidates it gives you all candidates names and their groups for each ward. It is also in last Thursdays HT.

Do you not think that would be a lot of space being taken up on HV pages.53 wards and up to 5 candidates on each ward with up to three leaflets for each candidates? and then would Colin allow that many pages being taken up?
-
Again, although we have no control over what the electorate does, it would be unfair to other candidates in that ward if you just posted the literature of ONE CANDIDATE that you favour as again it would be giving that ONE candidate unfair advantage to the other candidates standing in that ward. I hope Colin doesn't mind me saying but at the moment some of the posters are trying to turn HV into a political machine which is unfair to the other posters on this site.

Dippy, we are in what is called the "poudar period" we are not allowed to promote ourselves or groups during this period, it is seen as giving unfair advantage to any particular group over another, it is a part of the forms that we sign to become candidates and it is law. The same as we cannot write or have stories in the press, use our council computers or ipads for any political advantage. We are there to present ourselves only to our electorate for them to choose who they want to vote for and our leaflets are used for that to tell our electorate what we have achieved for them in the last four years in our prospective wards. There is also something in the papers about using or promoting ourselves on social media websites.

Actually, where Cllr Edwards live now is still a part of Belmont, until May 7th, because Cedar Ave is in the Belmont Pools area it becomes a part of the city parish. -

Grid Knocker, I DO NOT do anyone bidding and Bob Matthews have never asked me to, therefore I think it is unfair that you suggest that. As I said in another post the Independents have no political whip telling them what to do, and what to say!. That is why I stood for the Herefordshire Independents in 2003, I stood to represent my constituents and I am on record as saying "if the people get up off their sofa's and vote for me I will give them 100% of my time" and I have done that and more over the 12 years I have represented them. Flam, The city boundaries were changed originally in 2003 when Newton Farm and Hunderton became part of Belmont Rural, thus making the Belmont Ward. Now the Boundary Commission in London has decided to make the Belmont ward as it is until May 7th into 3 separate wards. If you look on the boundary map on my website you will see the Newton Farm boundary and Belmont Rural boundary, they run alongside of each other. Because Newton Farm is part of the City parish ( Hereford city council) the Belmont Pools area is in fact a part of the city. In years gone by when there were no houses in Belmont, it was all fields and the woods, that area was named Haywood. That is why many people feel that the country park should not be called Belmont Country Park but Haywood Country park because it is part of the city. -

having read through all of your support and best wishes on this thread, I just like to say thank you, your kindness is appreciated. Glenda -
Just to confirm I am an Independent, and a member of the Independent group on Herefordshire Council. I also represent not only the Independent councillors on Herefordshire council but also ALL independents across the West Midlands as a part of my duties of the Independent councillors of the Local Government Association (LGA) in London. I do not know why I have been put in "unattached" category but will be making an inquiry into this with Herefordshire Council on Monday morning. I have noticed that five of the Independent group are classed as unattached. To answer Denise question ALL Independent councillors do not support politics in local government, we are there to support our constituents100% at all times without being told what to do, what to say by a whip or a political party. we pay our own election expenses out of our own pockets. ALL other groups on Herefordshire Council because they are a political group get their expenses paid for them by the political group they represent.

Countdown to General Election 7th May 2015
Glenda Powell replied to megilleland's topic in Open Forum
I watched the whole two hours, and was non the wiser or have any confidence in voting for any of them. I did like the lady from Wales but felt she was hitting her head against a brick wall, all of them have promised this or that if they are in number 10 on May 8th, my argument is why didn't David Cameron and Nick Clegg put their promises in place before the election. I am one of the undecided and will be until 7th May. -
Bill, As I am the local councillor in Newton Farm and been involved with the development for the pas 8 years, also liaison between Keepmoat the developers, HHL and the residents living in these properties the matter is in hand.

The 22 houses that are on the old vortex site at the start of Waterfield road although some have same house number that part of the development is called Vortex Way the houses in Goodrich Grove before you get to the police station on both sides of the road is Goodrich Grove, below the police station and also facing Belmont road is called Radford Gardens they are the houses on the open market. Problem being there is no street signs up at the moment.

Colin 6 people asked me today if you were standing for election in Belmont, they referred to the advert wording on second line YOUR VOTE YOUR CHOICE. I said I did not know.

Use Trams On Great Western Way
Glenda Powell replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
Don't get me wrong Colin, I was in favour of this happening when Mr Heinz suggested it and I haven't changed my mind. In regard to the flooding this is my ward and for the past two years I have been supporting residents who gardens back onto the GWW, the fields have flooded and water running down GWW into their gardens. I have fought for something to be done about this flooding both with HHL and the council neither have taken responsibility for the problem until last year. That said it still floods in heavy rainy weather. In regards to the skate park that belongs to the Newton Farm community- 246 replies

Colin, the land in the pictures belongs to Herefordshire Housing, and it floods a lot. The GWW belongs to the council. So we would have to approach both the council and Herefordshire Housing to get the tramway passed. The down side to this is its the only "open space" left on Newton Farm and the skate park would have to be removed.- 246 replies

I am tired of asking the Tories to do something about the site, and getting nowhere fast, hopefully all that will change after 7th May.
-
I noticed the other day that somebody had defaced the mural by writing messages to friends and girls in three places, I drew it to the attention of a Tory cabinet member who was walking through high town, he said what do you expect me to do about it and just shrugged !!!

Use Trams On Great Western Way
Glenda Powell replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
About 18 months ago electric cabling was put in along the GWW which could only run down the right hand side because of the rail tracks and they ran into difficulties when they got to the Hunderton bridge going across the river, when I asked the men what was wrong they said its the rail tracks stopping them digging down for their cables to be installed. I do not see why any trees would need to be removed they were in place when the trains used the line.- 246 replies

I questioned that last year when I put it in the HT actually calling the road "the road to nowhere" and it has been known as that ever since.

The proposed route if Mr Heinz proposal had been accepted was from Belmont to the Courtyard theatre along the old Barton sidings railway.- 246 replies
