  1. At the adult wellbeing briefing Tuesday last week I asked the cabinet member for adult social care about these two positions and to justify paying £500 and £425 a day he said: " you would want us to employ the best people for the job", not being satisfied with his answer I wrote to both the leader and cabinet member when I arrived home. At cabinet last Thursday the cabinet member said "thank you for your email" I have forward it onto the chief executive to answer your questions, the leader sent an email Monday this week saying " I will wait for the cabinet members response" I again wrote to the leader of the council advising him the cabinet member was not going to respond but sent my email to the chief executive. I received a reply from CE on Tuesday telling me the same thing as what the cabinet member originally said, therefore he has not answer my questions. Now you know how frustrating it is for councillors for the oposition when you get this type of response from a Conservative led council and its officers. Yet the general public tar us all with the same brush which is unfair in my opinion!!!
  2. News Release from Herefordshire Council Newmarket Street and Widemarsh Gate-Refurbishment update. Jan 27 to 2 Feb 2014 Work will continue on the north footpath this week. Two lanes east and westbound will remain open for the duration. 29 Jan 2014 A night time closure on 29 Jan will be in place on the eastbound carriageway so that a crane can be used to lift air conditioning units into the site for the debenhams store. As this work is being done over night there will be minimum impact to traffic, but an alternative route will need to be used if you are travelling around Hereford. 2-10 Feb 2014 from 2 Feb major work will start to Widemarsh Gate which will necessitate one lane closure in either direction on Blueschool and Newmarket Streets. During this period temporary traffic lights will be used to assist with regulating traffic flow, and pedestrian crossing locations will be slightly altered. The gates into the centre of Widemarsh Gate will remain closed for the duration of the work and thr traffic lights in Widemarsh street will be "bagged" and its exit from Widemarsh street will become a give-way junction. Delays will be expected during this period and we suggest that you plan your journeys and allow extra time. Businesses will be open throughout and we encourage you to keep coming into town. Walk, cycle or use the bus if you can. END
  3. Megilleland, if you would like to tell me (no pictures) where the overgrown areas are (bearing in mind that it is 4 months since I arranged for the work to be done and the very bad weatherwe have experienced) I will contact Belfour Beattie to get the area cleared. Once the trees around the lights was cut back, it was felt that no extra lighting was needed despite my insistance to the contary. I am still looking into CCTV for this area, and the funding for installation and up keep afterwards.
  4. The council sold ALL of their stock in 2002 to Herefordshire Housing for an undisclosed sum, the only properties the council is involved with is for the homeless. The Housing list where people bid for properties is through Homepoint, again this is through HH and the other housing associations who allocate these properties, there is a banding system of Bronze, Silver and Gold status according to how long you have been on the waiting list. If you are in receipt of housing benefit you pay your rent to the housing association who property you are living in. Hope this helps!
  5. Going slightly off topic, in 2002 Herefordshire Council did a stock transfer (all their housing stock) which transferred to Herefordshire housing therefore the majority of housing stock on Newton Farm belong to them, there are a further three housing associations which are Muir, kemble, and Marshes who together own all the housing stock between them on the estate.where each housing association houses are they are also responsible for the open spaces around them and to keep them clear of rubbish and fly tipping. Megilleland - you have put photo up about the GWW area, because of all the problems with people being attacked I arranged with the then contractors AMEY to cut back the undergrowth, lower tree branches were removed ALL rubbish removed including down the embankment and the lights that were not working ment, it took them the whole of September last year before they lost the contract to complete the work. I went up there on a daily basis to make sure the work was carried out the people said they were happy to walk and cycle there again, and they felt safe!!
  6. megilleland the areas in your link all belong to Herefordshire Housing, and as I said in one of my many posts I ask HH to put skips up there, they chose not to do that, where I appreciate litter is a problem in this area it does not help to put up pictures some of which are a few years old. As you know We have found out who is doing the fly tipping I get it cleared, only to have it happen again within 24 hours. It is up to HH to come down hard on their tenants!!! I used to go out with some of my tenants even got the MP to come out on regular litter picks but cannot do it now on a regular basis due to other council work and work for my constituents. While I appreciate what you do, I cannot do anymore if HH doesn't do anything about their tenants!
  7. Two councillors share the city ward, as a Herefordshire cllr it is Cllr Hubbard, as city parish cllr its Len Tawn
  8. Get in touch with the highways dept of the council, who will get in touch with balfour Beattie. I have seen them emptying the rubbish bins in high town. You could also get in touch with the district councillor for the city Mark Hubbard.
  9. Taken from Herefordshire Council newsdesk. Work will commence to improve the junction of King street and Bridge street in Hereford. The scheme is due to begin with preliminary works on site on Monday 27th January 2014, and is likely to last 6 to 7 weeks. The scheme is being completed with minimum disruption to traffic flows. The narrowing and realignment of the King Street exit will slow and reposition emerging vehicles to provide a better view of approaching cyclists and vehicles. Colour surfacing and new street furniture will create more of a "shared space" feel which will help vehicle behaviour. Reducing number of bollards and existing sign posts to improve overall view and visibility. Pedestrian crossing locations will be better defined and the overall layout will be more pedestrian friendly. the funding scheme is a match funding between Herefordshire council and Department for Transport Cycle Safety Fund. END.
  10. I have to agree with Bill, yes there are cut backs all over the country, but that would not happen in Hereford because our A&E is open 24/7. read the name of this website HEREFORD VOICE, that means news pertaining to HEREFORDSHIRE!
  11. This was at a North London Hospital!!!
  12. Stacey, if you give me your home address I would certainly have a cup of tea with you and offer my help in some way to you. You can send me a PM message and give me your address there, Glenda
  13. The renovations to these flats are being done by Herefordshire Housing as part of a program of works, they are being cladded simular to the flats and houses in Newton Farm and steel houses in Hunderton. I hope they make as good a job on the shops and flats above when they do the ones at the Oval.
  14. there is no guarentee it will be privately paid for or they would pay for the maintainance of the velodrome afterwards, if that is guarenteed I have said before I have no problem with it. But because of the financial difficulties within the council, if I had to choose between funding for frontline services for our elderly and children then they would come first!!!
  15. My concern if this gets off the ground, where is the money coming from and also the land, because the latter will probably belong to the council. As said in previous posts here the council is financially in dia straights and what money we have should be going to front line services, the budget for 2014/15 is already looking to reduce the money going into social care for the elderly and childrens welfare services.
  16. I regret ever answering this subject simply because it is my personal life. You have been told of my alergies to food and medication due to physical conditions I suffer from, I drink very moderately for medicinal purposes. These questions was started on the post bloggers bash I have no intentions of answering anymore questions on this subject!!!
  17. Taken from HT today:- First phase of works to refurbish Newmarket street and Widemarsh street is due to begin tonight. Initial work will involve the removal of the central reservation along Newmarket street and will take approxamately one week. The work will take place at night, and traffic will be permitted in both directions throughout, keeping traffic disruption to a minimum. Following removal of the central reservation work will take place to lay footpaths along Newmarket street for three weeks. these works will be carried out during the day, but with the central reservation removed and two lanes will be maintained in either direction. In February, work will begin to construct the right turn from Blueschool street into Widemarsh street. Due to the evacuation and width of available carriageway, one lane in either direction will be maintained. This will be for a short length and two lanes feeding Edgar Street roundabout during the day will be maintained at all times. End.
  18. There is to be a special meeting of Health & Social Care scrutiny committee of which I am a member, on 13th January where we will be discussing the proposed budget cuts to Social Care and childrens services that the administration of Herefordshire council is proposing, our comments / decisions will be also put to the Overview and Scrutiny committee straight after at their meeting.
  19. Hinton Hitman, I totally agree with your first sentence about ensuring the law is applied in every licenced premises and the licencee is responsible for what goes on in their clubs and pubs. In regard to McDonalds clearing up outside their premises they volunteered to do that. In regard to your coments about myself:- 1. I do not eat curry because I am alergic to spices. 2. I do drink alcohol. 3. I do attend meetings in pubs. If you knew me which you obviously do not. 1. I am not small minded. 2. I do not have an over inflated opinion of myself. I would take more notice of what you say if you were courageous enough to come on here under your own name, instead of hiding behind an avatar! Alex, the rules of the regulatory committee is changing in regard to licencing, and for the record I was one of the councillors who allowed the public house in Eign road to re-open after the stabbing!
  20. I know I have been a patient in A&E on a weekend, its quite frightening, but our hospital staff does a wonderful job, 25 years ago I worked at the hospital.
  21. I am likely to get my head shot off with many of you by what I am going to say. I am a member of the Regulatory committee who deals with licencing among other things, the restriction was asked for by the police, as a member of that committee I had the opportunity last year of going out with the police on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday in Hereford, other members went to Leominster, Ledbury, Bromyard and Ross, it was quite an eye opener where some people caused distruption and trouble being so drunk when they came out of clubs and pubs etc. We do not change the rules on a whim but with concrete evidence where people do not know when to stop drinking and all the problems they present, and yes before you say it, a few spoils it for the many, after witnessing the problems for myself I can understand why the police want every one off the streets and on their way home as quickly as possible.
  22. I will no doubt have an invitation to the opening, but personally there will be nothing there that will attract me to spending my money there. Debenhams like a lot of the big names stores are not exclusive they have a lot of franchise departments from other shops within their stores.Waitrose is an expensive supermarket I do most of my shopping in M&S. I personally think shopping malls are 20 years out of date and desimates all other shops in a town, a prime example of that was in Newport Wales, the Kingsway Centre it did to Newport that is the OLM site is doing to Hereford KILLED IT! and that Centre was located as part of the high street shopping area!
  23. Grid Knocker, I like your thinking, what an exellent idea TKMax premises as a library, and the library in Broad Street as a Art Gallery, Museum and Visitor Centre. There is much of our heritage locked away in the vaults that never see the light of day for lack of space to display it. There is a council meeting on 17th January why don't you write in as a member of the public and ask the question. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
