  1. Councillor Chris Chappell representing Hinton and St Martins ward in South Wye, after over twenty years as a Labour councillor crossed the political floor of Herefordshire Council to join the Herefordshire Independents group this week.
  2. When I spoke to the woman who has organised the launch of Balfour Beatty next week to say I was going to attend, I told her there were things that I ask to be done but had not been completed before Amey left, she told me it would be a couple of weeks before I had names and contact numbers for BB, hence why I said in a previous post no councillors have been given this information.
  3. Whether a roll out or stumble councillors have not been issued with names or contact numbers for us to report repairs etc, not exactly a good start to the new contracts if we are unable to contact them!
  4. Frank, the bridge was first brought up when councillors first saw the designs which was in 2011, it has been brought up at council meetings by other councillors and myself ever since, as I said the suggestion/requests for a bridge instead of a pedestrian crossing has been ignored, so if they dont take any notice of the councillors they will not take notice of the general public!!
  5. New service contracts for the county commenced yesterday for those looking after the county's highways, buildings and streets. Herefordshire council undertook major procurements earlier this year to deliver the new contracts with the local authority spending more than £20m each year on these services. The council says that new agreements will save £2.4m as part of its overall plan to reduce budgets. The most noticeable change change will be the roll out of the new Public Realm Services contract with Balfour beatty Living Places. Balfour is now looking after the county's highways maintenance, street lighting, traffic signals, street cleaning, parks and public rights of way, design services and fleet maintenance. People will begin to see the new vehicles around the county this week. The other major contracts to be awarded are building repairs and maintenance which will be provided by Interal UK LTD. and building cleaning services, which was awarded to Initial Facilities Services. Both these contracts will be for an initial three year term.
  6. I actually put the suggestion forward for a covered footbridge at the council meeting in April, I also wrote in the press where I received many responses agreeing with me, unfortunately when I put it to the full council meeting my suggestion was IGNORED!!! I also feel the shopping centre should be called Hereford Bull shopping centre after all our bull is known the world over. Also put the bull from High Town in the entrance to the centre.
  7. I class myself as fortunate, other than when they first said it would be 45p it disappeared for three months, then one Thursday evening it was put through my letterbox, and has been delivered ever since free of charge. I must agree the Journal is far superior to HT and if you want something put into the Journal it is printed.
  8. I was at the courtyard last night Colin, and the many people I was talking with was full of praise for Hereford Voice asking me if I knew the website I told them I was a member and suggested for them to join us.
  9. Taken form the HT. Amey has been awarded a multi-million pound contract to deliver water servicesin the county for the next six years. The firm will take on responcibility for repairing and maintaining around 20,000km of clean water pipes, as well a meter installation and new connections in the area served by Welsh Water. The £108m contract will commence in October and will run for six years.
  10. The Inspector from Amey contacted me this morning stating he had gone to the Newton Brook and that the work will be carried out today. I will check this has been done this afternoon.
  11. Having spoken to Mr Powell from Amey this morning he advised that Balfour Beatty is taking over on 1st September and they do not know what their budget will be for signage, to which I replied that the work was reported by me 4 months ago and it has not been resolved, they had plenty of time to carryout this work. So as soon as Balfour Beatty takes over I will be contacting them about the sign.
  12. I am well aware they do not like the fact that people cannot dictate to you, that has been shown in previous posts and demands that was tried to be imposed on you and I, but unlike you I am paying the price. There is a north and south divide a prime example of that was a couple of weeks ago when there was a community reasurance meeting in Holy Trinity church due to what happened in Ryeland St, I was ask to attend by police because the perpetrators live in my ward, it was made very clear that I should not have been there by one of the councillors. Going back to the subject I am still concerned that you take this website into the political arena. Let the people decide if they want to or not contribute here wherever they come from in Hereford. Time will tell!
  13. The council is responsible for signage work is then passed onto their contractor which at the moment is Amey. I have spoken on Friday to Amey about the duck sign giving them the works number I was issued stating it is 4 months since that was issued and the sign has not been replaced, I was told Mr Powell on leave but someone would come back to me, but they didn't so I will be ringing up again on Tuesday morning.
  14. Years ago all households were issued with a galvanised bin which eventually was replaced by a black plastic bin, when mine fell apart after many years use I was told by the housing association 'you have to replace it yourself' which I did. Some areas still do not have a recycle bin because of where they live and are still using the white and mauve plastic bags
  15. Megilleland, just for clarification, councillors are not allowed to work in another councillors ward matters, having said that I do deal with matters brought to my attention from wards in south wye and then notify their ward councillors it is not the case it's not in my area or it's not my responsibility and I have personally been rapped over the knuckles for dealing with problems outside my ward. Political parties are very 'protective of their ward areas' I do not want to see Colin get involved in a political mire because he wasn't told how it all works.
  16. Chris, I got in touch with Amey in regards to the brook the work has not been finished yet all work I have asked to be done all over the belmont ward within the past five weeks will be completed by next Friday. They have had the added work of crowning trees in Newton Farm because of the introduction of double decker buses by time the schools go back. I know we have all complained about Amey in the past including me, but to be fair when I ask them to do work they do it within the constrains of an ever decreasing budget and the reduction of staff. In regard to Balfour Beatty as a councillor I have been invited to their launch early next month so I will see first hand what their proposal are.
  17. Colin, I would stand off from going into the political arena at the moment simply because the ward boundaries are changing, some of them are amalgimating into one ward and some are changing their names, in 2015 there will be a reduction in councillors from 58 to 53 the changes also mean that there will be one councillor one ward. Also there is already a political website for the city that is the IOC party website, and my own website covers an events page which you are welcome to link to if you like it also covers news about the council. I have put this information on your web as well. Good luck and I look forward to seeing new topics on here.
  18. I have just sent an email wanting to know what's going on I will follow it up with a phone call in the morning
  19. Yes there was talk of having a bin collection the same time as the recycling, but so many people complained it has not been implimented but it could be. Don't know where you live but the road sweeper comes every Monday morning in Newton Farm around 8.30am, our refuse is collected on a Tuesday
  20. The cutting of trees work has now started in Newton Farm.
  21. Everyone has a right to live their lives as they wish to as long as they do not try to impose their way of living on anyone else. To bring the disabled into this in my opinion is disgraceful. The other posts on this subject suggest that if you are "different" in any way you are not normal, we do not live in a "perfect world" and none of us are "perfect" let us leave this subject now and move on to more important things that are affecting our lives!
  22. Will contact Mr Powell (no relation) tomorrow to see what the hold up is.
  23. Information I received from Amey However, as tree works of any kind are often emotive any queries / complaints please contact me.
  24. Colin, They were there one half days, I came past your house and your car was there so I knocked your door but got no answer to tell you they were on site.
  25. Colin, I came to see them doing the work and asked them to cut the tree stumps down to the ground, the grass is cut by a different team of operatives to the trees. But was assured it will be cut.
