Knife Angel Hereford Who are we? Alison Davies lost her son Mark to knife crime in December 2018 and together with Meryl Cain and a small group of friends wanted to raise awareness of the catastrophic impact violent crime has on individuals, families and communities. The team’s involvement with this project is carried out on a voluntary basis. The group are known as The Knife Angel Hereford Team. What is the Plan? The Knife Angel is coming to Hereford on June 14 – July 12 2021 hosted by Hereford Cathedral. During the Knife Angel’s visit we will run a series of workshops and interactive events. It is envisaged that this initiative will continue after the Knife Angel leaves Hereford. The majority of host towns & cities to date have had a knife amnesty whilst the Angel is in situ. We will have a general weapons amnesty, with the approval of West Mercia Police. There is a “weapon surrender” secure bin which travels with the Angel. Events During the Knife Angel’s stay in Hereford, there will be; Series of free public workshops and events at The Cathedral and venues in the City. National Conference, engaging with professionals in related spheres. This will be an online, ticketed event. Youth Conference, identifying young people’s needs and issues which they feel have a negative impact on them and their community. Weapon amnesty in operation for the duration of the Angel’s visit, approved by West Mercia Police, a secure weapon surrender bin travels with The Angel. Opening Ceremony and Closing Vigil. Funding Knife Angel Hereford need to raise funds to cover the cost of workshops, conferences, promotional campaigns and literature, printing costs, lighting, plus 24-hour security and insurance for this valuable and unique statue. Police officers searching for a missing 47-year-old man can confirm that a body was recovered from the River Wye in Hereford on Tues. Formal identification confirms that it is sadly Steven Tattum from Hereford. The death is not being treated as suspicious, the Coroner has been informed. Our thoughts go out to Steven's family and friends at this difficult time.

Hereford’s flagship business incubation and innovation centre officially opened by Secretary of State Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), cut the ribbon today (4 June) on Hereford’s Shell Store, newly refurbished into a modern business incubation and innovation centre. The Shell Store has a rich history, having been built in the First World War and used as an ordnance site during the Second World War. The project has developed commercial space within the existing building footprint (it is not a listed building), retaining much of the original factory including its steel roof structure. The £7.3m refurbishment of the building has established more than 2,100 sq metres of employment space, with room for new and growing businesses to set up and expand alongside facilities for development and innovation. The 25 business incubation units are forecast to generate around 128 new jobs by 2023, rising to more than 450 by 2031. The building also provides access to modern, accessible business meeting and conference space, as well as an onsite café, providing facilities to encourage networking and collaboration. The building was designed with specialist input from other successful business incubation facilities across the country to build on best practice elsewhere. The Marches Growth Hub, Hereford Enterprise Zone team, and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce will be located on site providing businesses with access to advice and support services. Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for MHCLG, said: Cllr David Hitchiner, Leader of Herefordshire Council, said: Andrew Manning Cox, Chair of the Hereford Enterprise Zone, said: Mandy Thorn MBE, Chair of the Marches LEP, said: The project has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Herefordshire Council and a loan from the Marches LEP’s Marches Investment Fund. For more information on The Shell Store, please visit the Skylon Park website.

After 18 months of preparation and anticipation, the Knife Angel will finally be arriving in Hereford City Centre in less than a fortnight. Also known as the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, this magnificent 27ft statue built from 100,000 confiscated knives and blades will come to the city on Monday 14 June and will remain in place outside the West door of Hereford Cathedral until 12 July. Thanks to generous grant awards from West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, West Mercia Police, The National Lottery Community Fund, High Sheriffs of Herefordshire (2020/1 & 2021/2), Eveson CharitableTrust, Community Safety Partnership and the Clocktower Foundation, the Knife Angel team has been able to organise an exciting range of free-to-attend events to accompany the Knife Angel’s visit and in order to stimulate discussion on the devastating impact violence has on all our lives. These include: A full day virtual conference, entitled ‘Knife Angel Hereford: Crime in 2021 – From Knowledge to Practice’ (see: HERE for further information and bookings) A comprehensive selection of workshops to be held in locations throughout Hereford City from 21 June to 11 July. Subjects range from ‘Managing post-lockdown stress’ to interactive medical workshops and creative activities. Further details of these free-to-attend events and booking information can be viewed on the Knife Angel’s website here Direct Workshop booking link: https://www.facebook.com/knifeangelhereford/events Two walks (22nd and 27th June), arranged as part of the Herefordshire Walking Festival, which include the Knife Angel as part of their route (see: https://www.herefordshirewalkingfestival.co.uk/our-walks for further information). A weapons amnesty, approved by West Mercia Police, where knives, blades and other weapons can be safely disposed. The team responsible for bringing the Knife Angel to Hereford is headed by Alison Davies, who lost her son, Mark, to knife crime in 2018, and Meryl Cain. Alison Davies comments: The Knife Angel will be located outside the cathedral and will be free to visit with no need for visitors to book in advance. Relevant precautions, including a one-way system around the Knife Angel and volunteer stewarding teams, will be in place during the day to help welcome and guide visitors. We have received some disappointing reports and reviews about the event at Edgar Street on the weekend. Headline act Tulisa did not appear instead was replaced last minute with Tinchy Styder with many people complaining that they had to wait for up to 2 hours just to get a drink. Did you attend Stadium Music Festival Sunday in Hereford and how was it for you? Below are just a few comments left on our Facebook page. Even though we received many complaints about the event, some people still had a great time.
