News story Government publishes £6.1 billion programme of upgrades to major roads and motorways From: Department for Transport, Highways England, and Jesse Norman MP Part of: Road network and traffic Published: 30 June 2017 No mention of Herefordshire in the schemes, but then that may be a conflict of interest. Perhaps there will be a few shovel fulls of tar left over for our potholes?

One of the worst weeds in urban areas is Buddleia seen in railway locations, check out Hereford Station, and found establishing itself on buildings and now in kerbs . Here is a fine specimen attached to the cornice on the old Chadds store in Commercial Street adding further to the blight which is creeping up this street.

Can no one at Balfour Beatty and our councillors see the state of our urban roads in the city which are now getting out of hand. When the use of a garden hoe along the kerb would have removed most weeds we are now in a position that the weeds are so established that the only way to treat them would be with herbicides which in turn cause pollution. So the only answer appears to be is do nothing and our streets on our estates take on the appearance of an outback town - the only thing missing is tumbleweed. Together with the inability to get on top of the litter and fly tipping problems and blocked drains around the area it is apparent that the majority of citizens and those elected to represent us have no pride in our environment - a sad state of affairs. The picture of Glastonbury Festival and the accompanying litter say so much about the state of our country and mindset of those responsible. In Australia they appear to have come up with a safe, pesticide-free method of keeping their streets clean and tidy. And ironically this method is used by Glastonbury Town Council to keep their town clean and weed free. Belmont Road Hereford:

Smart Meters reading more than your energy bill
megilleland replied to megilleland's topic in Open Forum
Sorry Adrian you are not looking at the bigger, future picture using this technology. ONZO provides a SaaS medium through which utilities can engage their customers, with capability to select and target message content to individuals, while providing useful information to the home owner about their energy use. Customers receive information that educates and informs them about their existing use and notifies them of changes to provide: Control, Comfort & Convenience. Through analysis of the energy used within the home, ONZO products identify the patterns, trends and appliance usage that describes the behaviours and lifestyle of the residents, which can be used to inform the selection of marketing and other relevant content. The Ecologist's article (April 2017) Smart meters and cell damage from pulsed em radiation - our health at risk? highlights the corporate hijack of smart metering. Interview with CEO of ONZO This technology is not for your benefit, but for the benefit of national and global corporate businesses manipulating financial control over its customers. -
Smart Meters reading more than your energy bill

From the Queen's Speech: Oh so we will be protected - no need to worry as Ragwert says. -
The Guardian - 24th June 2017 Just a device to read your utility bill - I don't think so. At the moment not compulsory to have one installed - yet!

Is this how the Edgar Street Grid will turn out?

Ragwert read the 1330 comments so far to get the wider picture. Not only in Cambridge, but other places in the UK and coming to Hereford! -
Is this how the Edgar Street Grid will turn out?

(extracts from above article) I have always felt that local councils create the slums of the future mainly caused by their neglect of basic amenities. They can't even cut the grass of open spaces to a decent standard. There is a grass verge along a footpath here in Newton Farm that has not been cut for over two years and we have weeds growing out of the kerbs. No one accepts responsibilty - they just pass the buck. -
'An embarrassment to the city': what went wrong with the £725m gateway to Cambridge? Initially planned by Richard Rogers, CB1 was to be a world-class arrival point, with park, piazza, heritage centre and affordable homes. Instead, it’s ‘a future slum’ plagued by antisocial behaviour and sex-trafficking. This article deserves to be read as it looks a carbon copy for what could happen to our city when the developers and planners get together for the Edgar Street Grid.

Careful what you put on Facebook Looks like you were lucky Colin.

Not sure if the police will be calling at this Hereford household to ask them to remove this offensive poster - we don't want any dissent in the county.

I would have voted Conservative if I felt that they would get us out of the clutches of the EU administration, but I believe we will still be managed from Brussels, albeit in a different form.
-
I am afraid everyone will be a suspect if the Conservatives win with a majority tomorrow. The country is slowly being turned into a dictatorship and police state - common sense has gone out of the window - only acting on orders (viz; they could not comment themselves but were instructed to pay me (Colin) a visit. What happened to neighbourhood watch?

Hereford Link Road
megilleland replied to Colin James's topic in Edgar Street Grid and Courtyard Theatre
I've been using it for the last two weeks. A short stretch from the Royal Mail site entrance and coming out at Jewson's yard gates. It gets you away from Morrison's car park and the footpath link running around the side of the store. Much better than weaving in and out of moving cars and shoppers. -
If we Brexit may be we should reintroduce visas for those wishing to travel to the UK. I remember as an exchange student in 1974 I had to visit the US embassy in Grosvenor Square to get a work permit to allow me to cook fudge in Atlantic City. At the moment we have no idea of who is in the country ie suspected terrorists and EU citizens and what they are doing. EU citizens arrive under the freedom of movement. No record of who comes and who goes. The main reasons states impose visa restrictions on foreign nationals are to curb illegal immigration, security concerns, and reciprocity for visa restrictions imposed on their own nationals. Typically, nations impose visa restrictions on citizens of poorer countries, along with politically unstable and undemocratic ones, as it is likelier that people from these countries will seek to illegally immigrate. Visa restrictions may also be imposed when nationals of another country are perceived as likelier to be terrorists or criminals, or by autocratic regimes that perceive foreign influence to be a threat to their rule.[26][27] According to Professor Eric Neumayer of the London School of Economics: "The poorer, the less democratic and the more exposed to armed political conflict the target country is, the more likely that visa restrictions are in place against its passport holders. The same is true for countries whose nationals have been major perpetrators of terrorist acts in the past".[26] As some of our political parties continually pursue the open door policy there can only be further trouble ahead. When is the next census due?

Another one to add to the collection - sorry I meant the election! A song accusing Theresa May of being a "liar" has reached number three in the iTunes charts and the top 10 radio charts. “Liar Liar Ge2017â€, produced and performed by Captain Ska, skewers the Prime Minister on the NHS, education and poverty, and her party's several recent U-turns including calling the snap election. The chorus and easy-to-sing-along melody – “She’s a liar, liar, you can’t trust her, no no no no†– has helped the song to overtake Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan and Ed Sheeran. Cheered me up no end.

Bloor Homes Planning Application For 82 New Homes

On the plan what is the difference between affordable rented units and affordable shared units? -
Slowly other countries are realising what UKIP were spouting years ago - get away from the EU administration and restore border controls. We have no idea who is in the country. Maybe time for a compulsory census to restore some normality to our country. As our mystery MP in Hereford is going to retain his seat with a reduced majority I would have to vote Conservative as they are the only party to get us out the EU, but I don't believe it will be a complete break, but a watered down scheme to suit the politicians and not the people. We are heading towards a mass surveillance police state - just the sort of country you want to bring your children up in! To stick to my principles I will most possibly vote UKIP again. I am not against Europeans - just the EU administration.

The link from Royal Mail to Canal street is also fenced off. I imagine they are waiting for the road works to finish.

People may be interested to read the detail behind the national parties manifestoes. Not many weeks left to arrive at a reasoned decision when it comes to vote. It is not so much what they are spouting on about what we hear and see courtesy of the biased British media, but what their ideas are under the surface and to be implemented after the election. The answers lie within: Conservative Party Manifesto Labour Party Manifesto Liberal Democrats Manifesto Green Party Manifesto UKIP Party Manifesto
