  1. Can't see how this has gone off topic. You need to see the wider picture when businesses are failing to survive. Business rates are the number one killer. Matabeau Cafe Ltd 21, Commercial Street, Hereford, HR1 2DE Description: Restaurant and premises Total area (m²/unit): 194.8 Price per m²/unit: £650.00 Current rateable value: £48,000 They would pay £23,232 a year = £1936 a week = £276 a day on top of utility bills, staff wages, insurance, maintenance and a host of hidden charges.
  2. In view of the above Denise this does not put the Ombudsman investigation and report in a very good light, but then all these government organisations are working to protect the status quo. The Ombudsman’s role and powers The Ombudsman investigates complaints of injustice caused by maladministration and service failure. I have used the word fault to refer to these. The Ombudsman cannot question whether a council’s decision is right or wrong simply because the complainant disagrees with it. It must consider whether there was fault in the way the decision was reached. (Local Government Act 1974, section 34(3))
  3. Still empty today, although noted that the ladies fashion shop that was operating on the corner of Widemarsh Street and Bewell Street is now to become another charity shop for dogs. The other reason that there will be an ill wind blowing through the city next month is the revaluation of the business rates. This can be the death knell for many businesses who will get substantial demands to cough up for this governmental outdated tax. You can appeal against the demand, but the rate tribunals are heavily weighed against the small independent family run businesses who feel they are being treated unfairly. Guidance Valuation Office Agency and business rates (non-domestic rates) The VOA sets the rateable value of non-domestic properties and helps to ensure that the rates you pay are correct. Your local council decides the amount of rates you pay and administers rates bills (including reductions). Find a property And this is at 12.30am in the morning. There must be a lot of businesses desperate to find out how deep they will have to dig into their pockets.

  5. Government road spending: where the money is going The Department of Transport has added flesh to the headline figures for roads in the chancellor’s recent autumn statement. West Midlands funding West Midlands potholes breakdown Local Highway Authority - Herefordshire, County of UA Pothole Fund allocation - £899,000 Number of potholes filled (at £53 per pothole) - 17,000 Highways Maintenance Block allocation for 2017/18 - £10,244,000 I think in Herefordshire it's a lost cause.
  6. The Communities and Local Government Committee launched an inquiry (11th July 2016) into public parks to examine the impact of reduced local authority budgets on these open spaces and consider concerns that their existence is under threat. Terms of reference: Public parks http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/communities-and-local-government-committee/news-parliament-2015/public-parks-launch-16-17/ This week 11th February 2017 The Communities and Local Government (CLG) Committee report on public parks warns that parks are at a tipping point and face a period of decline with potentially severe consequences unless their vital contribution to areas such as public health, community integration and climate change mitigation is recognised. 7. This chap was nominated for a 2012 Turner Prize. Born in Northumberland, Noble now lives and works in London where he produces elaborate drawings. For the past 16 years he has worked on his fictional metropolis, Nobson Newtown, creating drawings that are monumental in scale but painstaking in their detail. In the words of the jury, it is “a dystopian world where people become turds and turds become peopleâ€. Noble created Public Toilet 1999, which features phantasmagoric scenery “complete with imposing mountain formations overcast by thick clouds depositing huge droplets over the exposed urinals and showersâ€. http://www.tate.org.uk/context-comment/articles/two-minute-turner-paul-noble http://www.tate.org.uk/art/images/work/T/T13/T13325_10.jpg http://www.tate.org.uk/art/images/work/P/P78/P78399_10.jpg https://drawingroom.org.uk/images/artists/_large/Noble,-Paul.jpg

  9. I hope it is going be carefully maintained to the same high standards witnessed in other parts of our city and county. I was thinking about all the other high quality, public open spaces we used to have until the council and Balfour Beatty decided that they needed as little attention as possible, giving us our own special local art installations to view on our way into Hereford. Here are some past creative installations, artists unknown, which could be seen regularly most days of the week and throughout the year. Take it easy - what's cooking? 11. Anyone wishing to sign this petition that Donald Trump should make a State Visit to the United Kingdom. Donald Trump should be invited to make an official State Visit because he is the leader of a free world and U.K. is a country that supports free speech and does not believe that people that appose our point of view should be gagged.
  12. Ask any rural postman what the state of the counties roads are like for an accurate assessment. Driving the same delivery route 6 days a week, in all weathers I can honestly say that a lot of the rural roads I use are beyond patching and are breaking apart. From a cycling point of view I notice that tree roots are lifting the surface of the Great Western Way in several places. Following the rain a few days ago there was floodwater lying at the junction of Widemarsh Street and Coningsby Street; the junction of Belmont Road and Goodrich Grove opposite McDonalds; also the ASDA roundabout at the Belmont Road exit; and also the corner of St Nicholas Street with Belmont Road at the traffic lights. It must be blocked drains due to no maintenance - a false economy. Since the LibDems highlighted the pothole problem way back in early 2011 is this what we can expect in the future!
  13. Surely they could have checked the tickets for the flight to UK to discover which airport they flew into and how did they get him through passport control?
  14. Looking through the latest expenditure figures for Herefordshire Council December 2016 and this entry stands out. £481,700.54 REDACTED / Commissioning Capital (Expense Area) / Capital Expenditure (Cipfa T) Nearly half a million pounds and we have no idea who is receiving this payment. Is it a person, a business or another? We obviously won't find out. A lot of expenses which are redacted are in the following expense areas. Including the above expense, a total of £876,326.27 was paid out in December. The next largest sum paid being £36,875. Adults Operations Central Childrens Directorate Costs Commissioning Capital Communities Education and Commissioning Environment and Place Growth Growth Capital Housing & Independent Living Capital Learning Disabilities Mental Health Resources Safeguarding and Family Support Schools Including the above expense, a total of £876,326.27 was paid out in December - the next largest sum paid being £36,875. This single unknown expense represents 54% of the total redacted expenses paid out. I am sure it was going to a good cause.

  16. Just seen the headlines in The Hereford Times today "City bypass blow". I won't be throwing away the bike just yet.
  17. Nice to see you back on the forum Bobby and what a return with the above post. Bang on and straight to the point. The country is in a mess and is going to get worse before it gets better. The public need to wake up and react - after all it is their money these suits are playing around with.
  18. The Bunch of Carrots already do a Carvery every day. Seems odd to me. They are part of the Buccaneer Group.
  19. Well here we are 9 months down the road. I spy with my little eye something to use against you when you step out of line. Democracy going down the pan rapidly.
  20. Cabinet Thursday 1 December 2016 10.00 am item 7. Herefordshire Economic Development Strategy To consider and agree the draft economic development strategy for recommendation to Council. This is a key decision because it is likely to be significant in terms of its effect on communities living or working in an area comprising one or more wards in the county. The strategy is visionary and aspirational. The investment opportunities are in various stages of development and it is accepted that not all of them may be realised. It is important to demonstrate what could be achieved within the county and to start the conversation about regeneration with partners, local communities, and prospective investors whilst remaining agile and flexible to respond to challenges and opportunities as they arise. 22. Herefordshire Development and Regeneration Partnership looks like a resurrection of Hereford Futures, although on a larger scale.
