  9. 7th April 2015 in Hereford Times Letters He of course doesn't refer to the electorate who have no say in their vanity projects and personal ambitions. You can comment, but we won't listen to you.
  10. Dear Amanda sorry to hear about your friends experience at the hands of the local constabulary. Your paragraph hits the nail on the head: "This has been a wake up call for both of us. I'm starting to realise just how naive and complacent the white middle classes can be about these things. Just asking questions or questioning the right to elicit information can lead you into confrontation with authority and, in this scenario, power is undoubtedly being abused through a lack of proper training, a lack of monitoring, a reluctance to reject unsuitable candidates and a determination by the courts to back prosecutions however spurious and unreasonable. These weren't officers acting professionally in the course of their duty: these were men using the props of public office to abuse power and dominate. Julian may have done nothing wrong but his non compliance was a challenge and it didn't go unpunished". Following the running down of our local bobbies on the beat who had local knowledge to react to and act properly, the country is moving to a more para-military, national police force (see post 86), instigated by the EU, Conservatives and Theresa May as Home Secretary. A lot of functions carried out locally by the police are now being out sourced to private organisations as have the prisons, where many people are held under duress, for raising issues that the establishment do not want us to hear about ie Melanie Shaw in Nottinghamshire and Robert Green, gagged for life for raising issues concerning child abuse. Yes we are moving into worrying times and the ability to do something to check this is running out. The agenda is that the corporations will be deciding how we live and not our elected politicians. I am sure you are well aware of how to make a complaint concerning this matter, but for the benefit of others who may in time suffer the same indignity this is from the West Mercia website: You mention freemasonry and it is interesting to see that The Independent highlighted this issue way back in June 2000 - "Police defy force with Masonic lodge" and that Hereford and Worcester police forces were mentioned in the article. The West Mercia Lodge 9719 can be found here.
  11. Daily Mail 4th April 2015 Having spent a few days in Cornwall this week, I can say that the problem of litter is not confined to Herefordshire. Devon roads and Cornish roads around Newquay appear to be suffering from the same problems, and as the newspaper article above states, no one is prepared to pick up this issue. Note the new name for the Highways Agency - plenty of money no doubt to change the livery of all their vehicles and alter their stationery, but not enough to employ some litter pickers. While in St Ives also noticed that the quaint narrow streets are now blighted by green wheelie bins outside the houses and cottages. No where else to put them.

  13. Hello JudSawyer. I drive past this place on my Royal Mail post box collection and never realised it was there. Looks a good day out especially if you have inquisitive children.
  14. This was raised here in this topic on Hereford Canal. They mentioned up to 115 houses then, the extra five suggested today is to cover their appeal costs maybe.

  16. Reading this disturbing article today in The Idependent about: StepChange is funded by the major banks who obviously have an interest in the debts. Thinking locally of whom to turn to in dealing with debt, the charity Citizens Advice Bureaux is the usual source. Not only helping people with money problems, but on a range of subjects including benefits, housing and employment, consumer and legal issues. I remember reading a letter early this year where the CAB were mentioned concerning future funding cuts. This letter explained why this was so and highlights the attack by this government on withdrawing help for vunerable people. First published Friday 30 January 2015 in Hereford Times Letters Well worth a look are his Lecture Series The CAB website is now displaying the following message: I am surprised that only 1,152 people have signed this petition. The council's withdrawal of £117,000 is after all only 8 tables paid for by Tory donors (see above) to get an audience with David Cameron and his cronies.
  17. Another survey and surprised to see Hereford in at No 5 on the Healthiest High Streets league.
  18. Network Rail unable to give a date for the use of the lifts. Why does it take so long to get anything done in this country? Meanwhile a company in China is preparing to build the world's tallest skyscraper in just 90 days. However it appears they didn't do it, maybe because they planned to use 104 lifts in the building.

  21. Another instance of a dog attack this time in Cardiff. A man has been charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act after a woman died as the result of a dog attack. Working as a postman you get to be wary of dogs. I have been bitten three times over 10 years, but have managed to remain in one piece. Nearly everyone in Herefordshire seems to have an animal of one sort or another. The classic phrase one hears is "He won't bite you".

  24. Yes it went within 24hrs Ubique.
  25. Following the Hereford Civic Society husting on education last week a lot of time was spent talking about the planned University in the city. The spokesperson Karen Usher acts as the frontman for this idea and since last year the aims of the University have moved on. The name has been agreed that the University and will be called The New Model in Technology & Engineering (NMITE). There are a lot of documents setting out the ideas for NMITE. The earlier plan of scattering the campus across Herefordshire in redundant council buildings appears to be put on the back burner, with a more centralised campus in the city centre with specific purpose built, iconic buidings. Architects have been retained to put forward plans to pull these buildings together with linked open spaces. Listening to other members of the panel and audience it was felt that this would be an opportunity to bring together all aspects of the city culture and share these buildings for the common good. Remember the original idea for the ESG was a cultural centre, since abandoned. A young member of the audience did highlight that she thought students would be key holed into specific company operations, but at least they would have a job. Whether local youngsters want to get up to £40,000 in debt to join this network remains to be seen. There is a compulsory part of the course for all students: "In the tradition of liberal education all students will also be required to participate in NMITE’s unique Human Interaction© curriculum which is designed to enhance employability and provide the societal context needed to develop well rounded engineers". This sounds like a programme of global transformation adopted by all the international, national and local authorities to foist on us. To get a good idea of what they are proposing here are the links to specific documents of importance: A Short Project Summary Campus Academic and Business Consultees Employers Science and Technology Education today Students and Parents Supporters and Donors and The Herefordshire Tertiary Education Trust Founders’ Fund Schools and the Curriculum Framework Well rounded, globally employable engineers "This institution – with 5,000 pioneer and innovative engineering students – will be the catalyst for transforming the Herefordshire economy and education system, and will, over the next 25 years, contribute up to 40 percent of the additional economically active residents needed to make the county sustainable". It sounds too good to be true, but then if the council are involved it may be another story.
