59 days to the General Election and now The European Union needs its own army to help address the problem that it is not “taken entirely seriously†as an international force, the president of the European commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, said in an interview published on Sunday. Or is it Nigel's peoples army! Mike Hookem, a defence spokesman for Ukip, said Juncker’s comments vindicated warnings that his party had been making about the direction of EU policy for years. He pointed out that when Ukip’s leader, Nigel Farage, warned about the EU wanting its own army in his debate with Nick Clegg last year, the Lib Dem deputy prime minister dismissed this as a “dangerous fantasyâ€. Hookem went on: “Ukip [has] been ridiculed for years and branded scaremongers for suggesting that the UK’s traditional parties were slowly relinquishing control of our defence and moving toward a European army. However, yet again, Ukip’s predictions have been proved correct.†Countdown timer to General Election 7th May 2015

Disability Discrimination on Wirral. Bill Norman's role...

Other groups to incur his ire were train spotters. Ah, I can see where I went wrong in my childhood. Even our local BBC radio like to intimidate their listeners. Listen to this woman (start 54:00, she kicks in at 56:00) berate Elliot Webb on his style of presentation. These presenters can't be starting the day properly with a good breakfast. -
Don't tell Bobby, but this could be the last straw.

Noteworthy Hereford and Herefordshire personalities

I can't believe Edward Elgar has not been mentioned in more detail here. I only found out, after I was asked to lead a cycle ride in connection with this years Three Choirs Festival. Having myself, not much knowledge about this great man, I read about this local character and discovered the impact he made on British orchestral music during his time in Hereford from 1904 to 1911. I think I can say his time spent cycling in the area greatly helped his musical compositions and without his cycling trips around the Herefordshire and Worcestershire countryside he may of struggled to create many of his musical masterpieces. Well known for his Egnima Variations and Land of Hope and Glory - if there was a musical piece relevant to today's state of the nation this is it. He has lifted peoples spirits and created an atmosphere and unity through his music over the last decades to make you proud to be British. There are around 65 roads in the UK named after Elgar, including six in the counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Among these are eleven Elgar Avenues, including one in Malvern, and another close to the house where Elgar lived, Plâs Gwyn in Hereford. From 1999 until early 2007, new Bank of England twenty pound notes featured a portrait of Elgar. The change to remove his image generated controversy, particularly because 2007 was the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth. From 2007 the Elgar notes were phased out, ceasing to be legal tender on 30 June 2010. Is this when the decline of Great Britain started? The ride will be on Sunday 26th July 2015 from the Cathedral Close by the Elgar/bicycle statue - time to be confirmed. Telephone 01432 353971 for details closer to the date. All welcome. -
Within Hereford city boundaries you mean Hereford City Parish Council. Here is the address of their town clerk: Stephen Kerry, Town Clerk Hereford City Council Town Hall St Owen Street Hereford HR1 2PJ

Cycled over the Victoria Bridge today and note that there has been a clean up of the rubbish illustrated in post 95 above. Some litter scattered amongst the trees has been left - a bit tricky to get to (Health & Safety?), but a good effort and quick response. Now its just the rest of the city and county that needs attention.

Worth printing out for our councillors to read. How much has been budgeted for Plough Lane and other works to buildings - did I read that £8.3 million was allocated? Forest of Dean District Council accepted the humiliating motion criticising it for ‘scandalous waste’ over the past eight years after an ambush by Labour members. They forced through the vote, demanding an ‘unqualified apology’, when the ruling Conservatives were left short of numbers at a meeting this week. Could they not be bothered to turn up?

Disability Discrimination on Wirral. Bill Norman's role...

Robert Green was sentenced today in Aberdeen Court (this Wednesday) regarding his involvement in exposing the Hollie Greig abuse case. He was sentenced to 250 hours of community service over two years and gagged for life regarding any comment or mention of the Holly Greig case or any other child abuse matter, even if a child comes to him with story of abuse. He had already spent nearly a year under house arrest in Lancashire. Is this Scottish justice, as it doesn't appear to be British justice? Also no mention by any mainstream media as usual. Hello Pete. You also missed the Mason's compasses. Strangely I didn't notice these symbols when coming across the site. They are distasteful and possibly work against those using them, but I took some time to read some of the content, although the layout is difficult to follow. We all seek reassurance that what we read is honest and truthful, which is why people like the comfort of our national newspapers, but like them, you have to get past the front page headline to discover what they wish to convey to its readership. Most of the mainstream media use fear rather than symbology to gain the attraction of its audience. This year so far we have had ebola, NHS, wars in middle east, provocation in Russia and Ukraine, child abuse, and endless celebrity gossip rammed down our throats day and night. The TV is just as bad, the regional news reinforces the national message - however I don't say we should ban it all, just turn it off. I find that one hour a day watching UK Column gives a different slant on things which I can also take or leave. Interestingly the BBC's Panorama programme is delving into alternative media shortly and I look forward to a balanced view. -

Abuse is endemic across the country and this does include the situation highlighted by UK Column - Racist Thames Valley Police And Oxford Safeguarding Board Protect Paedophiles, raised two years ago in March 2013. -
Just come back and several snippets of information. Cllr Powell tells me that what I have read in the Hereford Times is untrue about the involvement of the council in helping to set up the university. The Council only gave the University the go ahead two days ago and the assets referred to are not for sale (as of yet - my words). Meanwhile the litter situation is not going to improve as we are expected to pick it all up ourselves says Cllr Nicholls. This was after telling us how important tourism is. And Mike Wilmott mentioned Guy Taylor in a conversation about neighbourhood planning. However it was nice to see many of our councillors out tonight. I am sure it thrilled the twitchers.

Welcome to the website that is working to expose the property/financial rape/cleansing of the elderly/vulnerable "whom hold capacity" and whom are being "forced" into care homes against their will by government/judiciary agents whom want to steal & plunder their assets/cash! -

The Audit Commission are being wound up on 31st March this year and replaced by new organisations. The Audit Commission’s role was to protect the public purse. Protecting the public purse 2014 Fraud valued at £188 million was detected by England’s councils in 2013/14, a ten-fold increase since 1990. The figure beats all records for the past 25 years, the Audit Commission revealed in its latest report on fraud in local government. ‘Protecting the Public Purse’, the final one being issued before the Commission closes at the end of March 2015, looks at the landscape of fraud against councils and how this has changed since 1990, when the Audit Commission first turned the spotlight on to local government fraud with its ‘Protecting the Public Purse’ reports. The case studies at the end of the report make interesting reading. -
