Sorry Bobby but I was perplexed, exasperated and confused by this evenings event. I need to gather my thoughts. -
Hereford Fire Station Planning Application
megilleland replied to Aylestone Voice's topic in Open Forum
Councillor replies to Fire Station e-mail (post 40): Received 18th September 2014 19. Morgan, Patricia (Cllr) Conservative I do not sit on the planning committee but this application will be determined by the current planning process and policies as per all other planning applications. I am sure that the planning officers and those cllrs on the committee will, as best they can, balance up all the competing and often conflicting considerations for this application. Kind regards, Cllr Patricia Morgan Frome Ward Cabinet Member, Deputy Leader and corporate services 20. Phillips, Roger (Cllr) Conservative I would support the building of the new fire facility RP 21. Norris, Jon (Cllr) IOC Perhaps I am wrong in asuming that Councillors not in the Cabinet let alone the Planning Committee will be any way involved in this decision? Personally I did follow up your letter (thank you, by the way!). I understand that the present fire station is unsuitable for the new fire engines coming in. I find this odd, is it a nationwide problem? I find it odd that moving a few hundred yards makes any difference and that there must be better sites such as the Old Market/football ground area. The Bath Street building looks good from the outside but would cost millions to make usuable for almost any purpose, I am advised. Can you tell me please is Herefordshire Council acting lawfully in determining full planning permission for an application in which they themselves have an interest and fully support, especially in view that the new location is in a conservation area and involves the "swapping" of public assets? As for legality, I will await others to respond to this, and will enquire further. Jon Norris, County Councillor for Pontrilas Ward. -

Sorry for fly tipping here Colin, but I thought I would put all the rubbish in one place. These issues have been listed under separate headings in the past, but have been ignored for years.

Your quite right SF. I remember all my friends had Saturday jobs while at school and in the summer holidays we would go fruit picking. Slowly we moved through the education system into full time employment. However With the advent of reality and celebrity television and techno gadgets we see people who think they are the bees knees in this world where you are seen as clever if you do less and get paid more. All the jobs that the government say are difficult to fill, because nobody here will do them, should carry a premium wage or benefit. After all the top jobs carry enhanced terms financially and beneficially, because we can't find the right candidate, so why not apply this to the fruit picker or toilet attendant. Not too long ago a farmer from Church Stretton wrote into the Hereford Times saying that his foreign workers were earning £900 a week. Had he advertised those jobs, with expected earnings for local job seekers, I am sure he needn't have looked abroad.

Councillor replies to Fire Station e-mail (post 40): Received 18th September 2014 16. Chave, Liz (Cllr) IOC I hereby acknowledge your message, and apologise for not having managed to do so earlier. I am aware that the whole matter of Bath Street and the Fire Station is complex, and has caused a deal of concern on a number of points. I suspect that the application may, in due course, come before the Planning Committee, of which I am a member. As to your question about lawfulness, the Council does from time to time have to make applications on land it has an interest in – my understanding is that due care is taken to keep the process open and transparent – hence the likelihood of an appearance before the Planning Committee. Difficult decisions (and balancings) have to be made from time to time – and at the present moment, with insufficient knowledge on my part, I am not prepared to come down on one side or the other. At such time as the application appears before the Committee, I will, as ever, do my best to make a reasoned judgment. liz 17. Jones, Peter (Cllr) Conservative Sir, I consider that the CFA has acted in a sensible way. I have no other comment. Yours Peter Jones 18. Hardwick, John (Cllr) Independent As a member of the planning committee I do not intend to make comment prior to the application being debated at a forthcoming planning meeting. At that meeting the officer will present the application and we as members of that committee will then be able to best make a decision of support or refusal. As you will no doubt be aware we must not allow predetermination to cloud our decision. My apologies for not responding sooner. Kind regards, John Hardwick -

Councillor replies to Fire Station e-mail (post 40): Received 18th September 2014 Robertson, Sally Independent Thank you for your email. I have just returned from holiday and will look into this and get back to you. I do not sit on the planning committee and would urge people to write in response to the consultation. It should be decided at committee and not delegated to officers sib this is something I will be asking. It would mean that objectors would get the opportunity to have their say although time is limited to 3 minutes (not per objector but for the whole). I would've asking for an extension of the time). The lawfulness if swapping asserts is something I will take up. Regards. Cllr Sally Robertson 15. Wilcox, Brian (Cllr) Conservative Thank you for your e-mail. I regret I am not available at present although I shall be picking up my e-mails from time-to-time. I expect to return on 24th September and will catch up on outstanding matters shortly after then. If it is an urgent ward matter, then please contact Cllr Nick Nenadich on 01432 890757 or 07748980235 who may be able to assist. Many thanks Brian Wilcox [Cllr] -

Space for Cycling recognises that we need networks. It is calling for high standards of cycle infrastructure design and the invesment needed to ensure it. A Dutch-style approach to cycling. Anyone cycling anywhere. Imagine. It asks people who want to see this to lobby their local councillors. CTC and Cyclenation have created a web-based campaign that enables people to do this and to see the results on a national map. If you do this now you will be contacting your Herefordshire councillors in the run up to a vote on the Local Transport Plan (26th September). A perfect opportunity to concentrate their attention on cycling and the need to continue and increase investment. To participate in the campaign, and find out more, please check our website: CycleHereford

Wednesday 17 September 2014 in Hereford Times News by Bill Tanner Before a wider audience now. -
They are certainly burning our hard earned cash. The council pleading they need millions for this and for that, but do nothing to make the average citizen's life more pleasant - no grass cutting, no bus services, no sport, no heritage or culture, nothing for the young. They couldn't care less - it's not about the service, it's about getting the contract signed for their private friends.

Wednesday 17 September 2014 in Hereford Times News by Bill Tanner Well done Bill. How much more is this administration going to cost us? A lot of money spent and nothing to show for it. No wonder leader Cllr Tony Johnson is still asking the public to do the budget for him. Note that Glenda above was on the ball 2 years ago with awareness of alternative technologies for this sort of problem and cheaper too.

Hereford Fire Station Planning Application
megilleland replied to Aylestone Voice's topic in Open Forum
Norman, Bill The planning application will be referred to the Council’s Planning Committee for determination: the application will therefore be determined by Councillors, at a meeting which is held in public. Whilst the Council has agreed to the land swap with the Fire Authority, that does not preclude us from determining the application. Hereford Fire Station Planning Application
megilleland replied to Aylestone Voice's topic in Open Forum
How must elected councillors and other members of the local authority consider planning applications? Local authority members are involved in planning matters to represent the interests of the whole community and must maintain an open mind when considering planning applications. Where members take decisions on planning applications they must do so in accordance with the development plan unless material considerations indicate otherwise. Members must only take into account material planning considerations, which can include public views where they relate to relevant planning matters. Local opposition or support for a proposal is not in itself a ground for refusing or granting planning permission, unless it is founded upon valid material planning reasons. Hereford Fire Station Planning Application
megilleland replied to Aylestone Voice's topic in Open Forum
Just reading about a story here in Leicestershire - self explanatory: You could say the same will apply here in Herefordshire with the Fire Service, threatened with losing one engine, yet our council plans to build thousands of new homes when the relief road is built. This rush to have a new fire station on Bath Street may be premature, as a fire station south and north of the river may be a better solution. No one has really thought this through have they. And if Theresa May gets her aim of integrating all emergency services to save more money through further cuts we may have a fire station in the wrong location and further expense to implement and correct future plans. -
