  1. You definitely won't see a policeman in High Town on the 4th/5th September. NATO are meeting at Celtic Manor, Newport and no expense spared.

  4. Council has issued this statement on their website under News: 06 August 2014 Is this combined role still in force or are there now two separate posts attracting larger salaries?
  5. Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles has passed a law allowing press and public to film and digitally report from all public meetings of local government bodies. Public will be allowed to film Council meetings from today. Strange no publicity of this in the main media. An article today in the Northamptonshire Telegraph explains the news. Wait for Herefordshire Council to annouce how they plan to allow this to happen.
  6. Hereford Times: Wednesday 6th August 2014 in News Concern growing for missing Hereford girl Sara Middleton, 15, was last seen leaving her home on Hunderton Avenue in South Wye at 3pm on Sunday. She is described as 5 foot 4 inches tall and when last seen she was wearing light blue jeans and a grey vest top with the letter ‘H’ on it. She is of slim build and has purple shoulder length hair which is normally worn in a bun. Anyone with information on her whereabouts should call 101 and quote the reference 0177s on 4th August 2014.
  7. Seems strange that 24dash.com, published at the offices of Allpay, Whitestone should be blasting fat cat salaries in the public sector. The editor Jon Land, who also sits on the Board of HH may be trying to divert attention away from the big salaries also found in the Housing Associations. Mr P Brown at HH, the Chief Executive takes home, excluding pension contributions £112,311 (2012: £109,572) not much compared to other HAs, but this list gives you an idea of how much the other CEOs are taking home after collecting your rent.
  8. This popular programme has a section in it where the panel are asked to complete blanked out headlines in an obscure journal. Maybe someone might like to guess the blanked out bits in this local document worthy of a place on this show.
  9. Just to refresh memories closer to home. Hereford Heckler also had something to say.
  10. Following on from above, I thought that this piece by Robert Reich, who has his fingers on the pulse of the US economy and its following effect on the UK was worth a read.
  11. Hereford Times: Tuesday 5th August 2014 in News By Adam Knight The old site, still derelict in High Town, could always be used as a back drop for those World War II films reliving the Normandy landings. Must bring back a lot of old memories for those Herefordshire soldiers who fought out there.
  12. Although the job application says "please send a CV and covering letter to: office@nhca.org.uk and that you cannot apply on-line through the council website" it would appear to get him off the hook. Not good practice though.
  13. BBC H&W Radio this morning discussion about large pay packets in councils across UK. Hereford in the limelight today on the Elliott Webb morning programme. I can see him aggravating a few individuals.
  14. Hereford Times: Monday 4th August 2014 in News By Adam Knight A figure of £3,000,000 to set this up has been mooted and so far only 30 students. The government told the council to "donate" the buildings in Blackfriars Street from their surplus assets. Maybe these surplus assets could have been sold to the best bidder to reduce the budget deficit which Cllr Tony Johnson keeps telling us we need to grasp. Are there going to be any ongoing costs for the Council when it opens.
  15. SF I run my affairs on a simple spreadsheet which shows me where my money comes in and where my money goes out. A process which works very well. I can forecast what my financial position is at any moment in time. I work on the basis that I do not buy anything unless I can afford it and I do use a credit card. The council is a body, which like me, has money coming in and going out, but unfortunately does not appear to have full control over its finances. Money is being spent all over the place and overspends are not realised until too late, so a fix using creative accounting is applied and hidden in the Annual Report and Accounts. The accounts are difficult for many of us to read, but the jargon and terms used, are to smokescreen the reader from the reality that lie (no pun intended) on the pages. If some learned accountant would like to run an evening course on understanding public accounts, I myself would be interesteed to learn more. Regarding your comment about not understanding how pots of money work, I can only assume that the only pot the Cabinet use is a chamber pot judging by the crap that overflows from it on a regular basis. I am taking your advice to look at the simulator and will report back on how I got on, although my preliminery view didn't bode well. The download data (XML) or (CSV) is double dutch and totally unusable. I notice that there are 160 submissions, although this contradicts the information here which shows not one submission has been made in Herefordshire to date - other people experiencing problems?
  16. Bike store burglars steal £50k in stock 4:40pm Friday 1st August 2014 in NewsBy Adam Knight Genesis Equilibrium. HIGH END bike thieves targeted a specialist store in Hay-On-Wye, making off with almost £50,000 in bikes and equipment on Wednesday night. Luke Skinner, who owns, Drover Cycles on Forest Road, believes the burglary was a professional job. The thieves waited for cleaners to leave before breaking in at around 11pm and stealing bikes as well as bike computers and action cameras worth up to £500 each. He said: We had a little bit of trouble with local youngsters, but we have had no problems since moving to our new premises. “This was a much more professional job we were targeted. They were caught on CCTV they were in the area from around 9.30pm and came in after the cleaner left.†The thieves made out with an electric mix of bikes including some owned by customers which varied in value. However with a number of rare models amongst those stolen Mr Skinner is hoping they can be tracked down. Four Pyga full-suspension mountain bikes were taken a model of which there are only around 100 in circulation in the UK as well as three distinctive electric Haibike, stolen without keys or chargers. Detective John Davies from Dyfed-Powys police, also believes this was a deliberate and co-ordinated operation. He said: The removal and transportation of such a large amount of stock was probably pre-planned. It would take time and space to load and transport the items stolen. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, either by contacting Brecon CID by calling 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Other bikes stolen include ten Saracen Mantra Pros, three Genesis High Latitudes, four Merida road bikes and Genesis Latitude with a unique paint job. The total stock taken is valued at around £45,000. Although the crime took place in Hay on Wye the word needs spreading in case your offered a bike at a discout.
  17. Thursday 31st July 2014 in Letters Hereford Times Has Mr Swindells just realised the city is in a mess as he got ready for Hereford in Bloom. All the stops appear to have been pulled out for this exercise. Now the judges have moved on can we expect BB to pullout and react to the next knee jerk request. The judges should have made their own mystery inspection of Hereford in Bloom to see the reality The council should have a proper plan in place to get this essential work done regularly.
  18. In the Daily Mail today: Nice to see people fighting back on this dirty racket.
  19. Thursday 31st July 2014 in News Hereford Times Development coming to a green open space near you. Herefordshire Housing get the money off the government, the private sector submit the plans and build the houses and you loose your open space. Everyone's a winner - well almost.
  20. 1st August 2014 in News Hereford Times It appears the Council appear unhappy that the local media isn't putting the right spin on their activities. Well done the Times and Bill Tanner. Lets hope there is more serious delving into the way this Cabinet system works and arrives at its decisions. Long live the free press!
  21. Changes to Herefordshire Bus services from 31 August 2014 Herefordshire’s bus services will reduce from 31 August 2014 as part of the council’s aim to save £33m by 2017. Following the public consultation our priority is to retain support for the core network and rural lifeline services. The table below shows those services which will be affected by the changes. For more information on individual services, please: View draft timetables for the services affected by changes from 31 August 2014 Whilst every care has been taken to ensure accuracy , this is a first draft of the August 2014 timetable and is indicative of the new services and may therefore be subject to change. We will update our website with any changes as soon as we can. The 74/74A service I use has the following last daily buses scheduled to run at: Last bus back to Newton Farm Monday to Thursday evenings 7:05pm. Last bus back to Newton Farm Friday evening 9:05pm. Last bus back to Newton Farm Saturday evening 11:35pm. Last bus back to Newton Farm Saturday evening 6:15pm. Where the subsidy is withdrawn can the over 60's still use their bus passes? Has Cllr Rone declared an interest when deciding these cuts as he appears to have a pecuniary interest in us using taxis later in the evening? Cllr Rone's statement from Council News today.
  22. Not much been said about this topic lately except for this piece from UKIP today: More money up in smoke and the councils ask us how they can save money in future budgets.
  23. Grass cutting, grounds and tree maintenance Areas where Herefordshire Council is responsible for grass maintenance
