It certainly backs onto Scudamore School and is a stone's throw from the old Eye Hospital. Which was redeveloped ages ago. Wife's Aunt lives in sheltered housing right next door. The site would be totally ripe for development. I don't think I have ever used a bus in Hereford. But I visit Liverpool very frequently. I always end up on a bus when I'm there. They are virtually every 5 minutes. The timetable is irrelevant. Turn up at The Stop and the bus arrives. Cost is £2 for a single from the outskirts. Hereford is different as the bus demand is not there. Much smaller City.

I just did a random search on the bus timetables. The late bus into town tonight was a subsidised Yeoman's vehicle. Does anyone even use a bus in Hereford if they have an alternative usable method? I don't think I have ever used a bus in Hereford. I fully appreciate the need of certain elements of the Community tho.

Looking at the timetables there are services (varying frequencies) to/from Credenhill, Bobblestock, Newton Farm, St. Mary's School, Belmont, Hampton Park, Rotherwas, Saxon Gate, Putson, Redhill, Bodenham, Leominster, Canon Pyon, Almeley, Fownhope, and Woolhope affected. With the stopping points in between as well. I don't know the details of any overlapping routes with other companies but I presume Sargeants of Kington can pick up some slack with their services for places like Almeley.

Statement from First Midlands Monday 29th June 2015 Bus operator, First, has announced proposals to discontinue its bus services in Hereford. This includes the withdrawal of all its services and the closure of its depot on Friars Street from 5 September, 2015. First said that its operations in Hereford have not been viable for a number of years. Despite working hard to turn the business around and the introduction of a wide ranging Transformation Plan which included measures to attract more customers, there remains insufficient passenger demand. The continuing challenging economy has also contributed to Firsts proposed withdrawal. Nigel Eggleton, Managing Director of First Midlands, said: "Im disappointed that we are proposing to withdraw services in Hereford, but regrettably, we see no alternative. Despite our best efforts and hard work, only 3,500 customers per day travel on our buses. That level of demand is not enough to warrant a stand-alone bus operation. "We will continue to operate services as normal up to and including 5 September, however we are today engaging with Herefordshire Council on the future of bus services in the area. Given the volume of other bus operators that operate in and around Hereford, Im confident that customers shouldnt be left without a service." As a result of the proposed closure of the Hereford depot First has started the collective consultation process with trade unions on the possibility of redundancies, with up to 40 jobs at risk. Nigel Eggleton added: "Our proposals do not, in any way, reflect on the commitment of colleagues in Hereford who have worked tirelessly to provide the best possible service to the local community. Id like to thank them for their hard work and loyalty. We will be doing everything we can to assist everyone affected and will actively support any of employees who may wish to transfer to other First operations." First Group

There is a topic about that here The Council figures there will be long term cost savings with these new lights that will outweigh the initial expense so you can see the thinking behind it. I'm not a major fan of the type of light they throw off but as I've got one 20 yards from my front door I can testify that the sideways light with them is virtually nil so you don't get your bedroom illuminated as you would with the old style yellow lights. They're not perfect tho as I've seen two LED lights in Bryngwyn Close that are on at 4pm in June. Also I'm still mystified why the Council haven't fixed that light bang in the centre of the New Bridge (northbound lane) which is permanently on.

Sound advice and action on keeping the volume down 23 June 2015 From this weekend up to the end of August, noise officers from the environmental protection team will be out and about the county on Friday and Saturday nights as part of the launch of Herefordshire Summer Noise Awareness Campaign. Funded by a grant from the Police and Crime Commissioner, noise officers will be on call into the early hours of the morning monitoring noisy hot spots and investigating noise complaints. Up to a 1000 noise complaints a year across the county are made to the environmental protection team, with a 50% increase over the summer months. The majority of these are about loud music, parties and barking dogs. Noisy equipment that is audible from businesses can also cause complaints, especially if they operate through the night. Marc Willimont the head of development management and environmental health said “We accept people have the right to enjoy themselves and some noise is inevitable in work and home activities. However we are asking that residents and businesses consider the noise they are generating and think about how excessive and prolonged noise could be affecting their neighbour’s quality of life.†“Whether it keeps them awake at night when they have to be up early for work, or stops them enjoying life at home during the day, noise can be a real problem. Simple steps such as informing neighbours of a planned party or leaving contact details if a barking dog is going to be unattended can prevent complaints and mean you can be contacted directly if any problems arise.†“Fortunately, most residents and businesses in Herefordshire are considerate of their neighbours, but we will take firm action against the small minority who persist in causing noise nuisance. Where people refuse to comply with requests from the service to keep the noise level down, notices can be issued. Non-compliance of a notice can lead to a criminal investigation and substantial fines in the court. The council can also seize equipment such as stereos and TV’s.†If you are suffering from excessive and prolonged noise disturbance during this time contact the team via the councils out of hours number 01432 260 000. You will be required to provide your details, the details of the noisy premises and how the noise is affecting you. Also access to the affected property will be required to monitor the noise. Excessive noise, duration and repeat offenders will be given priority on the night. Herefordshire Council

I just thought I'd share this new lunch service in Hereford I just became aware of. It appears to be a way to order some healthy workplace lunch online and you can either collect it from Union Street or get it delivered for free by Will Vaughan's Pedicargo bicycle service. Gofreshbox Menu Most stuff appears to be priced at £2.80 per item .... Looks interesting!

Thanks for sharing the email reply Clarkester. The publishing of the photo is not illegal and will obviously not compromise any investigation. But it's gratuitous, insensitive and unnecessary. In fact the 'hand print' story itself adds nothing new when a previous story dealt with the 'harrowing last moments' of the victim. It's just stirring the pot again and it leaves me with the impression the HT is just trying to generate more clicks and more revenue from those annoying ads that float about on it's site. Mr. Joyce should take note of the 45 reader comments ~ none of which agrees with him.

Wales Online There is a £2000 reward on offer, for the return of The Cup, which appears reliant on a conviction being obtained before it's paid out.

I think the Butter Market is blighted by what surrounds it. Pop Up coffee stalls and Maylords .... Just a dead loss in my opinion. The quality of what's inside has gone thru the floor.

That row of garages were sold for £700k in London last year. Probably worth £1M now. Huffington Post Any tidy 3 bed house in central London was valued last year at £1.6M ... I suppose all these things are relative.

To keep it more on topic the suspects detention has been authorised beyond 24 hours ~ info from HT website. He can be held up to 96 hours maximum.

Yeah. Disgusting piece. The very sensational and insensitive photo has even been published oversized which makes it even worse. I'm surprised the piece and photo are still on the website.

I've been there and done that one. It's an isolated footpath and there's no getting away from that. The current CCTV funding is propped up by the Police (link) in a three year deal and their funding is due another slash in the next budget.

With regard to the lighting issues on 'the lines' I would suggest those lamp-posts in the photo are pretty close together. For that section.

If Mr. Sockett does a good job on The Buttermarket is there any chance he could then take on the River Island fire shell opposite? I think we've all got bored looking at that disaster ....

Too few facts have appeared (in the open) to form any opinion re ruling out a 'random' spontaneous event. Other than the wounds in the back that you wouldn't expect after a confrontation in a street robbery. Mr. Bagley's routines and any potential friction with other people will emerge by talking to people who knew him, looking at his internet usage, and looking at his phone for starters. Why didn't he have his phone with him? When was it last talking to a phone mast? And which one?

Yeah ... I saw your post. I posted the petition link as the attached comments on it are quite revealing. No one appears to feel safe using that area. The cops counter the situation by usually trotting out the tired old crap that Hereford is ordinarily a safe place to live and work in ~ with a low crime rate. I don't generally disagree with the cold hard stats. However the perception of crime happening is off the scale. Which seems to fly over their heads completely.

Over 1700 people have signed a petition for CCTV on 'the lines'. The deceased lived at Friars Street so I assume he was going to walk over the bridge, down 'the lines', to go the shortest route home. Petition

I don't know of the situation 'on the ground' as it's the other side of town to where I live but not much has developed online about this incident during the day. It's just getting dark and what areas are still closed? Is it safe to walk 'the lines' tonight ? And where is there any sort of reassurance message from WMP ?
