Government Proposal on tackling diesel pollution
twowheelsgood replied to greenknight's topic in Open Forum
There was some discussion about this last week on Jeremy Vine, who seemed remarkably ignorant about diesel engines, and one of the guests made that the point that on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the worst diesel polluter, diesel cars are a 1, whilst buses are a 9. Rather sweeping and generic I know, but he had a point. Whilst modern diesel cars have particulate filters fitted (which most owners either don't know about or understand how to use) I'm not sure that cruder bus and lorry engines do, or even white vans come to that. There is so much that could be done - hitting the car owner before the worse offenders seems unfair, or at least it does until some car belches a huge black cloud into my face, which happens on a daily basis. -

Government Proposal on tackling diesel pollution

Partly correct - yes, you can only turn left onto Edgar Street, but no, there will be traffic lights there as well! Six sets of lights in less than 800m! That was on the 2010 Masterplan - they've probably added some more since then. -

This Council's blind reliance on traffic lights contributes hugely to the poor air quality within the City - everywhere, stationery vehicles, engines running waiting for the green light that never seems to come. Hugely frustrating and unhealthy for all and entirely unnecessary. We've said it a million times, but the powers that be aren't interested (and we have to wonder why) - the essential lights need intelligent management (which we're paying Worcester for anyway, it just doesn't work), and many just need ripping out. Instead we're having to pay for the installation of dozens more on the inner link road. -
I bought my last tv in there - the guy I dealt with was helpful, very knowledgable and not pushy at all. I was able to double park for 5 minutes to pick it up later in the day. Went in recently, thinking about a replacement, saw the same guy and had the same service. i didn't buy at the time but would have gone back at some point. I buy most things online, but I think tv's are one of those where you need to see the screen in action (and not the 'display' screens they have in the darkened retail sheds either). I'll probably use John Lewis now.

So has Has JK left IOC then? -
The Council's single biggest asset, according to the best selling work of fiction, Transport Asset Management Plan (TAMP), are its highways, in 2015 these were valued as having a gross replacement cost of £5.495 billion. Coming soon - toll roads?
-
They're all stuck on the link road, waiting for the unmanaged lights to turn green!

It's ironic that our Tory Council's policy is to borrow and spend it's way out of the mess (except that they can't even do that with any degree of success), when that is a time honoured Labour policy (and look at the mess they left us with in 2010).
-
They will borrow the money to make it happen. They will develop the site, sell the flats, let the shops and sell the freeholds to British Land or similar. The finished project will make the normal 20% developer profit, which will be put back into the general funds. It will be a wonderful success and a beacon for the refurbished High Town. At least … that's how it should pan out, and other Council's have achieved it. But this is Herefordshire Council, with a proven record of incompetence, so that 20% profit will become a loss. It will be hushed up and accounts will be redacted as they are today with projects under way at the moment. They will borrow the money to make it happen.

The concrete roof to the porch is alleged to be in danger of collapse as the metal reinforcing has rusted. The council gave themselves listed building consent on 2 November last year to repair it. Since then, nothing. Clearly not a priority. Presumably the cheap repaint is to appease the couples who are to be married there and whose wedding photos will be framed by scaffolding. It's an eyesore and building works will no doubt take a year or more. Sadly, no one in charge gives a damn about the 'old' City.
-
This should be good news, but given their proven chronic inability to manage costs on any project*, it will end up costing us yet more millions. *see £1m overspend on Blueschool House, £100k over budget on fees so far on farms disposal, rumoured £10m over budget on link road etc etc.

Concerns' over top Cheshire East Council officials' conduct
twowheelsgood replied to Denise Lloyd's topic in Open Forum
Not even been there 4 months and he's up to his neck in it! Extraordinary! Did no one from the Staffing Committee, the Cabinet or the Group Leaders think to do a quick search on BN's history? -
For the first time in 40+ years I am wondering what is the point of voting. I did have hopes for Jesse at one time but his commitment to the County appears to have waned in his second term. IOC are in terminal decline - unable to get their act together for the last election, which they knew was coming, they blew it big time, leaving us with the ongoing mess of Tory majority rule. The idea of them nominating a prospective candidate would fall squarely into the raving loony party section.

Labour will lose catastrophically at which point Corbyn will go. Hard to see how they will ever recover, or if indeed they deserve to.

Please, no, no, no!

I was in there on Saturday (and there was hardly any stock on show) and the guy behind the till was telling a customer they were doing well but the landlord wanted the premises back.

Mould Appearing On Walls Of New Flats In Beattie Ave

Actually, I would say poor detail design - it can be perfectly built but if the basic design is wrong, this is what you get. A lack of understanding or consideration of detailing of how rain impacts on buildings. I doubt it will be rectified.- 10 replies

What's happened to the much touted canal basin then? Seems to have been air brushed out of things.
-
Me too. London was third at 14.59mph! Two words define the cause of Hereford's problem - traffic lights.
-
I get this all the time - NOT just at weekends (and hey council bods, some of us work at weekends and need access). Really, +£300k for something that is no better than than the site it replaced, and in the same breath they close No 1 Ledbury Road because they claim they have no money (and despite putting up the Council Tax by 1.9% for the very thing they say they have no money for). Is it any wonder we don't believe a word they say?

Perhaps both the IOC and the Independents could update their websites to present the facts - oh wait, this is politics ...

Image production outsourced to a Latvian hipster and his girlfriend I believe ( which presumably is why all the vehicles are left hand drive).
