  1. Whilst the dog owner did not handle the situation well I can relate to his apparent concerns about other dogs off the lead .he would not be aware of how docile the approaching dogs are . I have a Golden Retriever dog who has been snapped at by two dogs off the lead and about 30m from the owner , my dog Charlie was on the lead . He now cowers when passing similar dogs off the lead . It's only good fortune and quick action by me that he wasn't bit . Do I act in the same way as the person described in this forum - NO , but like most dog owners I would protect my dog to my last breath .
  2. Cllr Chappell thank you for your kind offer , I have messaged you.
  3. Silly me ..........EHTS, Environmental Health and Trading Standards (UK).
  4. Please , somebody must know what EHTS means ?
  5. Yes, I reported this FLYTIPPING to my Cllr and the PC at the same time as I reported it to HCC two weeks ago. I advised my Cllr when it had not been collected / removed in 10 days , the reply from my Independant Cllr follows ....... ". Dear Ubique , I have reported this too and send a further report this morning when hubby came back from walk. " It's very easy for me to form an impression that " they " do not give a rats behind to the Council paying public. Still waiting for a reply from EMPS ( or similar ) to my email I sent last Friday ...,. As I have said previous if they replied that they are going to leave it in the ditch ( with the TV Stand and kitchen cupboard ) to let it rot or it will be collected in the next 10 days fine - but to say nothing is a disgrace - The Environment Health will suggest that it's not in there remit perhaps because no danger to public health - Trading Standards will want to know if there is a lable stating Fire Resistant or how old is the settee .....! I know that I have been going on about this settee but only last weekend our Parish organised a street cleaning programme , Mrs U and I were involved, we litter picked about 700 m of our lane ( except for the settee plus the TV stand and kitchen cupboard ) we do it regularly - sad you might think but we have pride in our area and County .
  6. I do wonder how AV would feel if a scrap settee was dumped within 50 m of his home in a country lane ! It has now been joined by a TV stand and a kitchen cupboard - perhaps I presumed wrong and people are setting up home in this ditch ! I may also suggest that if it's Flytipping , the persons ( Company , HCC , BALFORD BEATY ) responsible for removing it should certainly remove it within two weeks , that has now passed . They should also reply to emails sent over 6 days ago . And remove this settee , which is FLYTIPPING ASAP not leave it there for over 2 weeks. So AV , I respect your opinion ( which is wrong ) but do not support a system that is failing - thank you .
  7. Flamboyant , I contacted them last Friday. See post 109 . Still waiting for a reply , guess I will have to wait 7 more days or more if it's working days ! Does anybody know what EHTS is short for ? I don't nor do the three Posters who pm me !
  8. Megilland , having read the notice a few times I think that I have or may have followed procedures or perhaps i haven't. But one thing is certain , I do not think the Provider has. Dippy , the hedgehogs are now coming out of their hibernation so with a short course on Customer Services they will be ready. Twowheelgood- Plough Lane is a consideration , it's nearer for me as well . Flamboyant , thank you , I will keep the H and S information handy for my risk assessment - I presume that as the lane is only a single carriageway I will have to,apply to have the lane closed for a period of time , that will mean planning a diversion route , telling the householders affected and put notices in the HT. More expenses I presume. Of course it would be cheaper and more final if I splashed some petrol over it , set it on fire and stand back - or stand back and set it on fire .
  9. Dippy , are you a mind reader , the below is part of my tongue in cheek email to the Council....... ". What I now intend to do is withhold my March Council Tax payment of just over £100 hire a van and remove this settee to the Council Tip at Rotherwas. I can justify the expense because I will lose at least two hours work in my Office where I charge £70 an hour plus VAT . If you have any observations relating to me being a good spirited Community person or any H and S advice I would be very happy to receive a reply from somebody relating to this settee. " Ubique
  10. Re the Settee .......the below is one of the replies to me from my Cllr .......... ". I have today been with our locality steward from Balfour Beatty and raised the issue with him. He told me that the problem does not come under their remit and has to be reported via Herefordshire Council. Even he has to do the same. " Sounds quite an efficient setup ........eh , really
  11. Re my Post 60 regarding the FLYTIPPING of a settee near to my home and the following reply from the Council on the 24th FEB , Dear UBIQUE Thank you for contacting Herefordshire Council. Your report has been forwarded to our Community Protection Team (EHTS) to deal with. If you have any future Reports or wish to speak to them directly their phone number is 01432 261761 or their e-mail is Ethelpline ethelpline@herefordshire.gov.uk As the settee is still in location I emailed EHTS ? last Friday asking for an update , to date I have not received a reply . So today I emailed the Council and they have passed it to EHTS , we'll know saying. " what go round comes round ! I would have been quite happy from them to say they it's going to be left in ditch to rot or it should be collected in 10 days , it's a reply that I am seeking from the Team / Unit responsible for collecting it , just do not treat me with contempt thinking I will go away. My Cllr has also been involved but to date the Flytipped settee is still in the ditch . I have thought of taking a photo of it and send it to the HT asking if any of their readers know where it had come from - might still do it .
  12. As an aside , re. the Ebola scare , I read in the HT that the Consulant now admits that nobody knew who was in Charge ( if anybody ! ) however I can recall that a Tracey Hill of Wye Valley Trust stating that the plans relating to Ebola "Stood up to scrutiny " Eh ? When nobody knew who was in charge -
  13. Many , many years ago as a young soldier in a hot sweaty country I can recall being summoned with the rest of my mob to AKC Cinema to watch a "film" relating to VD . It showed , in a very graphic way the "end" result of catching these infections . It certainly brought it home to one and all .
  14. Bobby posted this Topic in March 2014 , it then took the local NHS a further 12 months to accept the situation . Perhaps HCC , NHS and the HT should check the HV Topics more often and react to it .
  15. From BBC HEREFORD AND WORCESTER The owners of a stolen Holy Grail relic are offering a reward for its return after the cup was stolen last year. The Nanteos Cup was taken from a home in Weston under Penyard, near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire in July 2014. West Mercia Police described the dark wood cup as a "medieval mazer bowl" and "a wooden cup/chalice", and that it was kept in a blue velvet bag. The owners are offering £1,000 and West Mercia Police are offering an additional £1,000 for its safe return. Police are also hoping for information leading to the arrest and subsequent conviction of those who stole it. The Nanteos Cup, a wooden chalice named after the mansion in Aberystwyth where it was once kept, is claimed to be the cup from which Jesus drank at the Last Supper and then brought to Britain by Joseph of Arimathea. It is then believed to have been taken to Nanteos Mansion by seven monks from Strata Florida, Ceredigion, during the reign of Henry Vlll. Owner Margaret Powell kept the chalice locked in a cupboard in a library. After many years it left Nanteos Mansion and came into the ownership of the Steadman family in Ross-on-Wye.
  16. That was a bit scary , seizing your Duty Free tobacco . speaking of cheap tobacco etc. If you check the posts you will find one relating to your favourite outlet in Commercial Rd. They really hammered the person in Court - joking of course !
  17. Well Done Megilland , interesting reply from both HA and HCC , it leads onto the fact that nobody will take responsibility for anything if they can pass the buck to somebody else . Rubbish !
  18. Roger , I also read the article and I agree completely with your comment re the size of the bin supplied compared to the black wheeley bin.
  19. Thank Dippy - Logic prevailed ( we hope )
  20. Good news , Dippy - to clarify , is that the County or City Bus Station ? Either are far better that what they were proposing and finally they listened to the foot soldiers on HV
  21. Sally Roberts from Visit Herefordshire has obversely got her finger on the pulse and .....No , with respect she hasn't
  22. Rekan Gafoor (29) from Coventry was sentenced to a community penalty of 100 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £800 on Tuesday 24 February at Hereford Magistrates’ Court. He was the former owner of International Food, Commercial Road, Hereford and pled guilty to offences under consumer protection legislation. The case had been brought by Herefordshire Council’s trading standards service. The court heard how Mr Gafoor had been caught in the act of selling counterfeit tobacco last September by an officer who had gone into the shop to make a test purchase. In total eight test purchases were made over a seven month period to show the extent of the operation. The International Food shop has been found to be selling cheap illicit tobacco products over the past four years under various owners. Herefordshire Council’s head of trading standards & licensing, Mike Pigrem, said “Mr Gafoor took over the running of the shop in February 2014, following a raid on the premises where illegal cigarettes were found hidden inside doors, in walls and under floors. “Despite the verbal assurances given by Mr Gafoor that he would not sell illicit tobacco, it soon became evident that these were false. “These premises have acquired a notorious reputation for selling illicit product and are therefore the target of repeated enforcement action. “Where evidence is obtained confirming possession or a sale of illicit product, then the matter will be put before the courts for sentencing. The sale and supply of illicit tobacco is a national problem which has a serious impact on both the health and wealth of the nationâ€. Anyone with information on people dealing in illegal tobacco products should contact Trading Standards on 01432 261761†Photos Trading standards officers recently had 400kg of seized illicit cigarettes and tobacco destroyed at a recycling plant. This represented £60,000 worth of illegal products seized in the previous two years.
  23. Herefordshire CC press release Hereford store owner convicted of selling illicit tobacco 26-02-2015 04:00 AM GMT Rekan Gafoor (29) from Coventry was sentenced to a community penalty of 100 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £800 on Tuesday 24 February at Hereford Magistrates’ Court. Find it hard to understand the apparent light Sentance , and the high Costs ?
  24. Dippy said ..........Surely any fool can see that a direct workforce is far more effective? Guess that I am a fool !
  25. Megiland said .." Let's hope the Balfour Beatty contract is watertight! " Megiland is the best researcher on this Forum ..actually , I know that his remark is tongue in cheek . History reports that the designer of the Titanic made a similar statement . Once again , it's the Legal Profession that will make a bob or two out of this .
