  1. Cllr Chris said .....I have two questions in. One of mental health, Cinderella of the NHS and much neglected out in the community, and one about used equipment, hoists, Zimmer frames etc, which appear to be thrown away when no longer wasted! Some 10 years ago after I had finished doing real work ! I worked for the Red Cross in Powys who had the contract for delivering equipment as authorised by the OT's . This equipment included beds , hoists , Walking Frames , wheelchairs , chairs etc in fact the whole 9 yards. Nothing was discarded unless is was unsafe to use and / or was beyond repair Once it was finished with by the Client it was collected by me or my colleague , taken back to the Red Cross Depot in Llandrindod Wells , steam cleaned as approved by the Welsh NHS and reused . Perhaps times have changed and we are in the throwaway season ?
  2. And one Golden Retriever called Charlie , a Super dog which we " rescued " when he was 18 months old - now 4 and a half. This is his 5 minutes worth of fame - and he deserves it .
  3. Biomech - not guilty , my Lord , they are locating opposite Starbucks near to the Apple Store.
  4. Greenknight , I agree with you re the Council should reward the Companies that have stayed in High Town rather than follow "them" to the promised land across a very busy road. I feel that it's good news that Costa Coffee plus their tables and chairs are moving to High Town , very interesting that their new premises are opposite Starbucks Coffee . I am also aware of the number of Coffee Bars within High Town , some will say that it's the area is filling up,with Coffee Shops rather than Charity Shops and Estate Agents, a,ways finds its own level , just like water in a puddle ! ( I remember the days when Estate Agents were buying up premises in the town centres - changed now. , )
  5. Noticed today that the Costa Coffee in the Maylord is moving to a location in High Town opposite Starbucks , near to the Apple shop.
  6. All these posts are very interesting to read - but so worrying - so much money appears to be wasted - not wanting to go down the political road but one hears so much shouting at the Government of the day because they are apparently underfunding the NHS . This topic started by Bobby suggests different .
  7. See that the Booth Hall in East St is now closed.
  8. Public meeting to discuss future of Hereford pub First published 5 hours ago in News Last updated 5 hours ago A PUBLIC meeting will be held next week to discuss the future of a Hereford pub. From the HEREFORD TIMES Tina Carey, the landlady of The Broadleys on Ross Road, says a planning application has been submitted to Herefordshire Council to turn the pub into a Co-op. Ms Carey announced the news on social media last night and this morning told the Hereford Times a meeting would be held at the pub next Friday to talk about the plans. She has invited Hereford MP Jesse Norman to attend, along with CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) representative Mark Haslam. It takes place at 7pm. ( NOT SURE IF THE MEETING IS TOMORROW , FRIDAY OR TE FOLLOWING FRIDAY )
  9. Further to my previous post must add that at the time we sneaked to the " Outdoor " for our drinks we had joined the Boys Regt Royal Artillery at age , in my case 15 years 1 month , stationed at Bradbury Lines, signed on for Boys Service until we were 17.5 then we had to serve at least 9 years Regular Army - As some Posters will know - Happy , Happy Days . I could certainly put forward a case for National Service .........? Just hope that the Broadleys stays some sort of pub / restaurant .
  10. I can understand where Tina is coming from - I respect her honesty - thank you . The pub is not in my walking distance any more - many years ago - and that is many years ago ( over 50 years ) me and my 15 yr old mates / comrades sneaked down to this pub and appeared at their " Outdoor " and bravely ask for four pints of Scrumpy , this cost us 9 old pence a pint . Lovely stuff . Should add that this was after we called at The Gamecock , now Tesco's for a similar amount. - Happy days - very happy . Must add that 7 of us who joined at 15 yrs still meet up every year to pull up a sand bag and chew the cud - really happy days. Apologies Colin if I have drifted off post but ......those were the days
  11. Bobby , Very good update because I had a Dr appointment this morning - asked the Receptionist if they had any information on Taurus - short answer was NO , not yet ! Appears that at our expense help is on the way. ( as an aside my appointment was at 0900 and was summoned in at 0850 - that's a first .)
  12. Dippy , you are correct again , I , like you believe that it got a very limited " audience " . Mrs U and I had a discussion re our use of this publication - only lasted a very short time , we couldn't remember - and nor were we bother as to when we last used this publication . As you say , in previous years it was wrapped in clear plastic. Oh ! I nearly forgot , our letter box is wide enough to take at least two Yellow Pages - believe that the delivery person (s) stopped the vehicle they were using in our pull in , and threw the Yellow Pages toward our front door . At our neighbours house it was very apparent , but no evidence for a court that their copy was thrown over their five bar gate.
  13. We live in the Country 3.5 miles from the City . For various reasons we use our back door when we leave our home . Three days ago the Postman knocked on our front door with a parcel , on opening the door as well as the Postie and the parcel I found a very damp Yellow Pages which must have been put / thrown there some two / three days previous . Was put rightly / wrongly straight into the recycling bin. Today I walked down the lane from our home passed , what I know is an empty home because the occupants are enjoying the sun in Spain , and are there for the next week . The drive to their home is " secured " by a five bar gate , thrown over this gate was their copy of the Yellow Page , even more soaking and useless than mine . I accept fully that the distribution of this publication by somebody gives them employment but they have a responsibility to ensure that this publication is distrubited properly - it's what the advertisers pay for and expect. I know that I could have complained to Yellow Pages - and perhaps I should have - but at my age I certainly have better things to do with the rest of my life .
  14. I for one had never heard of Taurus - but thank you Bobby et al for enlighting me . Very interesting .
  15. I would sooner believe the knowledge posted by members of this forum than the spin circulated by the Council . I am sure that ( some ) of the Cllrs responsible for areas where these lights reduce safety for pedestrians will soon be passing on their concerns . If not I am sure that HV Posters will .
  16. It's a very topical and worrying situation , it appears that some of the attendees are being"brainwashed " bordering on Radicalisation , I accept not ( to my knowledge ) for violence but as Dippy said " pay to pray " and not just putting money on a collection tray . If it is a registered Charity perhaps the Charity Commission needs to be looking at their motives - further , it has been suggested that the Council are or have given this " Church" money - hope that it's now stopped .
  17. HEREFORDSHIRE CC NEWS High Town refurbishment plans 16-01-2015 03:55 AM GMT Shoppers, visitors and commuters to Hereford City will see an improvement to the city centre environment over the coming years, as a result of plans to give the area a new look. Balfour Beatty Living Places is currently developing a programme of works for High Town which will be phased over the next few years and is likely to see an investment in excess of £2.5m, with phase one likely to start later this year following consultation with stakeholders. *****Note that it's taking place over the next few years - good that something is happening but do they have a real plan yet ?
  18. Smartieno - I take offence to your comment - I wear two hearing aids due to Noise Induced Hearing Loss caused by Service in the Armed Forces.
  19. I am sticking my head above the parapet and say that to my mind Megiland is a very good investigative poster and doesn't need any advice as to what / where he should be researching / looking .
  20. Some 4 years ago Mrs Ubique was a volunteer at the Barnados Charity Shop opposite the Post Office when the Charity closes the shop telling the volunteers that the rent had increases too much for the charity - you will know that the shop is still empty so the owners have lost 4 years rent.
  21. This is very good news - I love walking through High Town - just hope that if they are going to replace the brass letters sunk into the paving they do a better job than previous !
  22. Clarkester - like you I am very satisfied with both the black wheelie bin and the people who collect it . I live on a narrow lane , my home has a pullin / parking place for my car , the pullin is also used by vehicles travelling along the lane to pullin when they meet another vehicle - that's no problem to me . I can and do park my car at the side of our home - back to the point of my post - I leave my wheelie bins about 3 m from the curtlage of my home so that vehicle can use the pullin. If I left the bins right at the edge of the property it stood a very good chance of being skittles over . The bin men understand this and use their discretion . It's always put back to the same place clear of the pullin. For that I thank them .
  23. Bobby , I know that you have attended the University of Life , that has proved , many times , that attendees of this University are far better prepared to lead . Just go for it ( please )
  24. Grid Knocker welcome back to the fold . What you are suggesting is a super idea which has my vote .
  25. Twowheelgood - thank you - I will look into it .
