  1. Colin , couldn't agree more . I find that using an iPad if I put the dibber( probably there is a technical name for this piece of metal with rubber on the end ) a millimetre off course I am sent to an Internet dating site or worse . Like you , I accept that the website has to be paid for but there must be a limit to the number of ads on one page ?
  2. This is so sad - particularly when you see on TV the murderers walk up to a wounded Police Office lying on the pavement and shooting him in the head. What " they "are trying to do is stir up racial disorder - think that in the near future ( sadly ) this wil happen in this wonderful country of ours . The UK has always been a very tolerant Country for others who are seeking to escape from their Country of residence / birth for whatever reason - Will it come back to bit us - sadly yes. ( I just get so cheesed off by the violence in this World. - don't they know anything about history - violence achieves nothing ) Must add that only yesterday I was remising with a friend about the time that after WW2 we could recall sweets coming off Sweet Rationing c1952 , we didn't know much about about the war although i didn't see my Fathet for 6 years so life went on.
  3. Never used the premises ( guess that over three score and ten I am passed it ) but for whatever reason another sad blow for High Town

UNBELIEVABLE -are we still paying his Expenses Etc....
  5. Dippy , when I said that I am getting bored its with the General Election as per this topic. I understand and support your "excitement " relating to the forthcoming Local Election . Bring it on !
  6. The reply that I received from the Police also confirms that the refusal by the Taxi Driver to take a fare on a short journey is the responsibility of the Licensing Authority - HCC . The Police have confirmed what has been posted earlier - common sense . From another source I have learnt that the Council Licensing Dept is very understaffed .
  7. Thanks Megaland for that information - must say that I think that I am getting bored already . I accept fully that it's the Politicians that guide / dictate our future but , in my humble opinion the majority of people who vote will have already made their mind up - guess that I have !
  8. I note that Election politics is being spouted by all the Parties on the News Channels , do wonder , bearing in mind that the Elections are in 5 months time if the average person in the street will be so bored they will not bother to vote ?
  9. Greenknight , I agree with you - it appears that when the Licensing Authority drew up the " Rules " they omitted / did not cover the refusal of a fare over a short distance .
  10. Thing is Roger , if you do not ask etc etc ....... If the reply is that if the journey / passenger was declined because it wasn't viable / too short a journey there is nothing the Police can do .......I would understand that completely . Of course if the client was drunk / abusive / threatening etc I can see a reason to decline the fare. My gut feeling is that as the Licensing Authority it should be the Councils responsibility to "police " this problem .
  11. This has been going on far to long in my mind . I find these photographs a real disgrace wether it's one family or more . It appears to me , that a number of people in well paid jobs are failing in their responsibility . Surley if it's one family causing this health hazard action should be taken against them and if they are residing in a Housing Association house/ flat as tenants they must be in breach of their agreement , so evicted them and give the house to a more deserving family. If it's more than one family breaching their agreement do the same to them .
  12. I note that Warwickshire Police seized a drug dealers house and sold it for £130000 , they distributed the money to local Warwickshire Charities , the Street Pastors of Nuneaton , Leamington Spa and Stratford on Avon each. received a £1000 . That's so good , hopefully similar money will be given to the local group. This also proves that crime does not always pay .
  13. I will be emailing my contact with the Police to ask him to view HV post re this subject and ask him what is the Police view / policy on this situation - I will of course post his reply but not break any confidences .
  14. Dippy , sounds a good idea to me - the people standing would soon gauge the feelings of members of HV , I presume that , if they have Campaign Managers ( or have I been watching to much West Wing and Scandle ) they would also benefit from access to HV
  15. HI HO DIPPY - good questions from you all and a good answer from Cllr Vaughen All I can add at the moment is that we recorded the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert , now listening/ watching it - LOUD ! ( which is the only way to appriciate Queen ) .
  16. Think that this now requires a Cllr , who ,whatever they say , is in a better position than us foot soldiers to lay the Law down as to when taxi drivers can / can not accept / refuse a Fare.
  17. Update - I have now been on the Street Pastors FB site and asked the question re refusing short trips - it's gathering moment .....!
  18. It would be interesting to know if the Street Pasters are meeting the same negativity when they arrange a taxi home for one of their Clients ? Just another thought - perhaps the " customer " should jump in the taxi and then tell the driver where they want to go - if the driver refuses they should do a sit in , Police might be called but it will make good publicity .
  19. Probably the incorrect post to put this on but .....it shows the way of the world at the moment ....... From the Sunday Telegraph Leicestershire Police ebay account It is, at the very least, a creative way to raise funds in straightened times. A police force which says it wants to ensure that criminals do not benefit from their crimes made more than £270,000 this year selling seized goods on eBay, the online auction website. Leicestershire Police auctioned sports cars, computers and designer jewellery and clothing paid for with the proceeds of crime. The force’s sales included an Aston Martin DB9 for £63,000, an Audi A5 for £29,500 and a Range Rover for £15,500. A Rolex watch sold for more than £13,000 while a Frank Sinatra autograph was bought for £260.
  20. Police Federation reply from the same paper - guess that it will be left to the Street Pasters ! Honestly believe that the Disordley Drunks should be dealt with more firmly by the Police - you only have to watch Britush Police fly on the wall TV programmes to see that the drunks actions and abusive behaviour in front of Police Officers appears quite acceptable to them . The majority of Drunk and Disordley people should not be at A and E but the Charge Room of a Police Stn . I am a great believer in making self inflected drunks who finish up in A and E pay a fee for their self inflicted condition . Responding to Dr Mann, the Police Federation of England and Wales told the Observer the suggestion was "simplistic" and would lead to an unrealistic drain on police time. "Forces up and down the country regularly have campaigns to tackle drunk and disorderly behaviour," the chairman of the Police Federation - which represents rank and file officers - Steve White said. "Alcohol is well known to be a contributory factor in incidents of disorder but it is a complex issue and a crackdown on troublesome drunks is too simplistic an answer," he added. He said "hauling people through the courts isn't always the answer either". "That takes valuable time and resources to process, not just for the police, but also as people go through the courts and criminal justice system."
  21. What I will say , as a person who has attended the University of Life is that the majority of people who have had an excessive amount of alcohol is that they do not feel the effect until they breath fresh air outside the pub - also , in my humble opinion the drunk is not going to the bar to purchase alcohol , it's their " mates " so really the Licensee do have a hard job to comply with their licence
  22. From the BBC website - think it would give me a clearer view of this subject if the Ambulance gave figures for alcohol related callouts . Must add that a couple of years ago I went to the Doctor for my " old man checkup - passed with flying colours EXCEPT that Mrs U and I apparently binge drink - why - well - we thought that we were being good by only drinking alcohol at weekends , a bottle of wine on Saturday between us and similar on Sunday . Well ,apparently that is binge drinking ! West Midlands Ambulance Service has big callout rise 22 December 2014 Last updated at 16:37 GMT About 6,500 emergency calls were made to West Midlands Ambulance Service at the weekend, making it one of the busiest of the year. On Sunday it received more than 3,300 calls, compared with an average of 2,500 to 3,000 a day. At peak times, the ambulance service said the number of 999 calls was double what it would expect. Many of the calls were alcohol-related and assistant chief ambulance officer Steve Wheaton said there was "absolutely no doubt that people went out partying on Friday and Saturday night".
  23. As I said in a post four / five previous , speed read the Council Licensing Conditions , nothing re cherry picking customers ! Not sure what the Police can do when a taxi driver refuses to take a passenger . Perhaps Roger can advise what action the Police would take after receiving a complaint of this nature ?
  24. Chris , thank you for your update - I will bear in mind re a project . For those that haven't heard of the two " Forgotten Wars " I mentioned , it's recorded that 340 members of the Armed Forces were killed in the Malayan Emergency and another 126 in the Boreno Confrontation . Gives me shudder to think that was over 50 years ago ! Apologies Colin for following the Cllr off Post.
  25. Do not want to go on but we felt that you would like to know that we had a knock on our door about 2pm today . At the front door was a man who had brought 3 hedgehogs to Mrs U over the last two months - in his hand was 12 cans of LOAF dog food and 2 bags of meal worms , a gift for Christmas from another caring person to assist Mrs U feed these loverable harmless aminals .
