  1. Thank you Dippy - another super piece of work - Bobby can now pack his suitcase with no worries or loose ends !
  2. Fellow Posters - Mrs U wishes me to say a big thank you for your supportive comments . That is all she wanted me to say BUT I will also say that she is devoted to saving these 16 hogs she is caring for at the moment . It takes her about one and half hours each morning and thirty mins in the evening to clean. , feed and medicate some of them each day . ( all I hope is that the two little ones in our dining room are out in our Workshop by Christmas Day ! ) We have son and RAF D in L for the holiday . I know that RAF D in L is used to eating behind a wall in a very dusty country but she now deserves better ! There are some really kind and generous residents of this County , three finders of hogs regularly come to our home with newspaper and meal worms etc to support what Mrs U is doing . As an aside one of our finders was in Malaya and North Borneo at the same time as me ( both Forgotten Wars ! ) we pulled up a sandbag , opened a bottle of Tiger and chewed the cud - hey I'm rambling and going off post - sorry Colin . This person is also a gifted painted and he has painted a picture of SAM , the hedgehog he brought to Mrs U . It's now hanging up in our home . When I get really clever I will try a post it on here. Dippy , please do as King Bobby as requested
  3. Some Posters might know that Mrs U looks after hedgehogs over the winter months ready to release after hibernation in 2015 . Last night at about 5pm she received a tele call from a man who had found a very small hedgehog near to the hospital , He was asking if Mrs U has room for it - she of course had room ! He then went onto say that he didn't have transport but was hoping that his neighbour could deliver it to us . ( I was out ) at 7.15 pm door bell rang , it was a Taxi ( driver ) who had been hired to deliver this hedgehog to Mrs U because neighbour was working late . The finder of the little hedgehog had paid the Taxi driver £15 to deliver it to Mrs U , some 4 miles from the City . Of course some might say that it was a waste of money which could have been spent more beneficial but hopefully others would say that this was a very kind act by somebody who could have crossed the road and ignored this little hogs plight.
  4. Roger , Is that the same as " Prepare to move " .? Must say that my recycling bin was emptied today , no complaints , after emptying it they put it back to where I had left it , clear of the pullin used by vehicles on this single track lane . What I find of interest , ( to me ) is that they do not appear to have sorted out their route , one week they come up my lane , two weeks later down the lane , today it was up the lane !
  5. From BBC DEVON today ....... Plymouth City Council is to formally dismiss almost 200 staff and then rehire them on new contracts after talks with unions broke down. Unite has accused the authority of bullying over the move which will mean more flexibility over working hours. The council said the move comes after contract negotiations broke down
  6. For what it's worth I went onto the Council website relating to Taxies , both Private Hire and Hackney . Speed read through 85 pages of Terms and Conditions for licensed drivers but couldn't see anything about refusing a Fare . Could have missed it . Smiled when I saw that there is a Dress Code and the Driver must not smoke in the vehicle at all .
  7. "They" have been building a cycle track alone the Roman Rd from the Starting Gate East towards Worcester for a distance of approx. 800m . It appears to have taken " them " at least 6 weeks to date , oh ! and it's not finished yet . As a layman let me tell you what they are doing , " they " are wideing the footpath which runs alone the Wiggins business by about 18 inches. You might ask if since they started work have I seen a cyclist using the Roman Rd. Eh ! NO ......so it appears to me , a layman who gave up cycling a few years ago that it's a complete waste of money - previously cyclist used the footpath at no harm to themselves or the non existent Pedestrians - money wasted in my mind.
  8. DIPPY said ...... Seriously, there are many members with a great depth of knowledge, and many years experience. If I wanted advice, I think I would have more faith in the talents of the bloggers of Hereford Voice! I have already taken advantage of one of the leading Researchers on the Hereford Voice relating to a matter of no real interest to the Members on HV but it was important to my son and his wife . Within about 15 minutes of asking this member to assist with research this member emailed me with a number of relevant websites , papers and other relevant matter . If / when we meet up I will certainly be buying a drink or two for this member . So I must agree with Dippy on this one .
  9. Having never been employed by a "Company " that has a Union it was really interesting to read the above Comments . I can , of course remember the Miners Strike and recall my friends and I talking about Unions - we decided that it would end in tears - which ,,as we know , it did . Similar to a dispute earlier in , I think Birmingham , the name has slipped my mind but I believe started with S . I am sure that some employees have received very good support from Unions but it appears from the above posts that the majority of members have not . I also get the feeling that a large number of Union members do not want to go on strike but for a number of reasons ( which I can understand ) do .
  10. Having driven up Whitecross Rd. this lunchtime , well 2pm , that's Mrs U and my lunch time - calling into the Monument for a very nice lunch..... Noticed a few houses up,from the Church was a house which had a black wheelie bin outside - it also had about 7 black bags of , I presume household rubbish - there were two young lads trying to tidy up the black bags which had obversely been attacked by the local feral friends . I must presume that this house was a *** but the Council were not aware otherwise I would think that they would have made alternative arrangements instead of delivering a four bag wheelie bin .
  11. Roger - my collection is Friday - only have two bags in my four bag wheelie bin sooooooo if you want to drive out to my home and place your forgotten bag into my half empty wheelie bin you can . Maybe , just maybe , the Refuse Wagon has re attended your home and collected the forgotten bag . My serious worry is that due to the forecast of high winds tonight I have tucked my bin into a hedge to prevent it from being blown away - bearing in mind that there is no shelter because we are on a hill with unrestricted view of the Black Mts , some 27 miles away the Refuse Collectors might just drive past our home without seeing our bin ......time will tell !
  12. I have just realised that there is no COMMERCIAL ! reason to deliver a calender out into the Sticks so it will be of interest to ascertain the result of Bobbies enquiries to see if there is any COMMERCIAL ! benefit at all or has the production of this , still unseen masterpiece was just to ensure that the HCC are given the same amount if money to produce it next year - may your God forbid ! - hang loose Brothers and Sisters ....
  13. Bobby , had you thought that you are the only person in the County receiving a calendar .......its a ploy by the " grown ups. " in the Council to get you wound up ( it apparently worked ! ) Stay Happy , " nil illigiment carborundum "
  14. Done / good luck - it's a very relevant subject
  15. Interesting subject - I joined the Boys Regiment Royal Artillery at Bradbury Lines at the age of 15 , I am now way past three score and ten , i can name the people that were bullies all those years ago - both Boy Soldiers and the Permanant Staff , likewise when I attend our annual Reunion others of the same era as me can also name the bullies within the Regiment . It gets harder to remember names of friends from that era. I have learnt from a reliable source that some of the bullies had what was coming to them later in life ! I accept that not right but it's what happened .
  16. From the Coventry Telegraph A shopkeeper who was caught with hundreds of packs of illegal cigarettes has been jailed for six months. Saadi Barashi, aged 44, was stopped transferring illicit tobacco from a vehicle into Albaraka Market, in Victoria Street, Hillfields, Coventry last year. In October police and trading standards executed search warrants at Barashi’s home and business premises, discovering a significant amount of tax-free cigarettes. Barashi was involved in running and stocking Albaraka Market and had been repeatedly warned for possessing illegal tobacco. On November 28 at Coventry Crown Court Barashi was jailed for six months. At an earlier hearing he pleaded guilty to possessing 153 packs of counterfeit cigarettes and 2,765 illicit packs of cigarettes, hand rolling tobacco and shisha tobacco with intent to supply. The court ordered that the tobacco should be destroyed. Coun Patricia Hetherton, chairman of the licensing and regulatory committee at Coventry City Council, said afterwards: “People can make a real difference to help keep more illegal tobacco off the streets by reporting it to trading standards. “We need to keep the pressure up on those who continue to sell it, enforce and prosecute accordingly, as the case of Mr Barashi has shown.†The total value of the tobacco was £18,850. As well as admitting possessing the illegal items he also breached a law that prevents the sale of tobacco without the correct health warnings. Barashi will now be subject to proceeds of crime act proceedings that could see him forced to pay back any money made illegally - or face more time behind bars. On the same day police raided Barashi’s place of home and work they also went to other unrelated properties, seizing more illegal shisha in a day than they ever have before. Anti-smoking charities say illegal cigarettes kill four times as many people as illegal drugs. A study on their contents revealed that some contained asbestos, human excrement and dead flies. Some illegal cigarettes are produced legally abroad and shipped to the UK, avoiding the tax that makes up 75 per cent of the cost of a legal packet of cigarettes.
  17. Hey Dippy , at least one Cllr has put his head above the parapet - just - . I just get the feeling that if this allegation is not covered in the Cllrs Job Description it's nowt to do with them - and that is so wrong . Was going to write more but some might say that I was having a rant - I will leave that to my friends who can rant better than I .
  18. Just read the story in the HT - appears that the two offenders are local yobs , attending a drug fuelled party in Hereford .....the HT give more details of the attack .........confirms to me that the Sentance for this incident plus the further attack on an innocent youth the next day which is running concurrently is very very low - wonder if the Prosecution will Appeal the Sentance ? If they ask me for my advice - for what it's worth , I would tell them , free of charge - yes you must Appeal.
  19. There must have had a reason for coming to Hereford ...I presume that it was mentioned in Court - perhaps if it's reported in the HT they will be able to give reasons - at a rough guess I would have to suggest that it's either drugs or women involved somewhere along the way . Can now add snitching to the Police .
  20. Two thugs pleaded guilty to two very nasty violent crimes and received either 3 or 3.5 years . If they toe the line they will be walking the streets of Hereford in 18 months or 20 months - that sentance , to me is a disgrace
  21. Dippy threw in a question. " An increase in the price of alcohol? " sure that I read somewhere today that either Scotland or N Ireland were going to consider this . I do not believe that will make any difference to the amount of alcohol irresponsibility drunk - however it will increase the Duty / VAT we pay to the Govt of the day . Perhaps drunks who attend A and E for treatment for their drunkeness should have to pay a FIxed Penalty Fine or similar . Drunkeness is self inflected for which there is none or very little excuse . The NHS charge drivers of motor vehicles ( fixed rate ) for the treatment of pedestrians that their vehicle collides with - even though the pedestrian might be 100% to blame , passengers in the vehicle etc involved in Road Accudents / Collision - that's what Motor Vehicle Insurance is for .
  22. Believe that from when I left home at 15 I have always worked on the principal that " what will be will be " have no regrets about the decisions I have made - and never think of hindsight . ( Well , most of the time ) . Not a great believer in religion - has been the guilty party in numerous wars .
  23. From Wilkpedia . It's a sad reflection on the modern drinking culture - they should be thankful that the Street Pastors are now set up in Hereford. Street Pastors was founded in Brixton, south London, UK in 2003 by Rev. Les Isaac. It was based on a model from Jamaica in which individual churches joined together to take their values out onto the streets.[4][12] Street Pastors is an initiative of the Ascension Trust, a registered charity established in 1993. The initial activities of street pastors in areas such as Lewisham and Hackney focussed mainly on confronting gang culture and the use of knives and guns. As Street Pastors started to operate in other areas of the UK, the initiative responded to other local issues, including anti-social behavior and drunkenness.[13] By 2008 there were Street Pastors groups in 70 locations, with another 50 being established.[12] As of November 2011 the official website states that there are over 150 active groups.[1] In 2010 Ascension Trust devolved responsibility to oversee Street Pastors in Scotland to Ascension Trust (Scotland), a Scottish registered charity which has an office in Perth, and whose first chairman is former police officer Sandy Scrimgeour.[14][15] In 2010 Michael Frost and others established the first Australian group in Manly, New South Wales.
  24. I appreciate when the work is going to start - I was just being frivolous- apologise - I did not want to start a new post - I had to take Mrs U , wearing her SSAFA hat to see a lady in Whitecross, a few streets back from the local Tesco , it took us 17 minutes from Whitecross School . Madness , just a warning of what's to come nearer Christmas .
