"There's a bloke called Farrage who wants you to ring him back..."
Ubique replied to SON OF GRIDKNOCKER's topic in Open Forum
Thank you Gridkocker for sharing that with us - guess after reading it I am still one of the undecided ! -
Noteworthy Hereford and Herefordshire personalities

ALLAN LEONARD LEWIS VC .BORN WHITNEY ON WYE HE MOVED WITH HIS FAMILY TO NEATH AND WORKED WITH GWR . L/CPL Jones of the Northampton Regt. was awarded the VC in 1918 when he was killed in action. dated 28th Jan., 1919, records the following:-"For most conspicuous bravery at Ronssoy on the 18th September, 1918, when in command of a section on the right of an attacking line held up by intense machine gun fire. L./Cpl. Lewis observing that two enemy machine guns were enfilading the line, crawled forward singlehanded, and successfully bombed the guns, and by rifle fire later caused the whole team to surrender, thereby enabling the line to advance. On 21st September, 1918, he again displayed great powers of command, and, having rushed his company through the enemy barrage, was killed whilst getting his men under cover from heavy machine gun fire. Throughout he showed a splendid disregard of danger, and his leadership at a critical period was beyond all prais Lewis joined the army in Neath in March 1915 and in doing so he left his job without seeking official permission from his employer ! This seems to have been too much to bear for the then managers of the GWR, and they long harboured a small-minded grudge against the man who was to die seven weeks before the end of the war. Indeed, not even the award of a posthumous VC served to change their minds. Other railway employees who won a VC had locomotives named after them, but this honour was never afforded to Lewis by GWR, as officialdom continued to treat him as a pariah. This extraordinary attitude clearly affected perceptions of Lewis in Neath, where the authorities regarded him as “troubleâ€, and because of this they did not include his name on any war memorial. There is a Campaign active at the moment in Neath to have L/CPL Jones VC name engraved on their War Memorial. -
Jim, it appears that the 5 minute criteria for Retained Firefighters is important - I can understand that . ( I presume that one can only apply to be a Retained Firefighter if you live within 5 minutes of the Station , and that's tablets of stone ?) Why can't one of the car parks opposite the Working Boys Home be considered bearing in mind that there are a good number of car parking spaces at the Old Market - ( I presume that the Parking fees for this car park is retained by a Company not connected with the Council )

Biomech - by coincidence my Bin man who has been collecting my black bag and recycling stuff since the recycling bin was issued said to me last week that he was being finished plus whilst for the last 9 years has been collecting my rubbish etc round about 0900 he added that " they " haven't carried out any test runs of an apparent new route ...brings to mind " failing to plan is planning to fail"

It's just my thought for the day , which may have been thought of / suggested previously ....... Have the powers that be considered building on one the Council owned Car Parks off Bath St ( know it's a Conservation Area but that appears inmaterial ) .Then they do what they want to do on the old Fire Station site - recall many months ago thought the Council said that it would become a car park. Likewise since the new bus timetable started there has been a reduction in buses going to the City Bus Station, choosing when coming into town to stop outside the new shopping area. So perhaps this location should also be considered? See on BBC MID WALES that they are building a new Fire Station in Aberystwyth costing £1 million.

Spate of Road Works in Hereford City at the moment.

Guess what , they are still there - wondering , just wondering if they , the hole diggers , are coming back on Monday to finish off the job and to save money on the removal and re installing the traffic lights "they " decided to leave them in situ. Must be cheaper to hire over the weekend - similar to Car Hire Companies. Not right but do they care ! I know nothing but common sense would dictate that the payers of the Bill , the Council / BB would have drawn up a Contract or similar stating , I hope , that work should only be carried out during certain times and when not required the traffic lights must be removed. -
There may well be mitigating circumstances as to why the punishment appears ( to me ) quite low - suggests to me that the punishment does not send out a warning to these type of shops sell illegal goods to stop .

Apologies for this late post relating to the Fire Service withdrawing their Planning Application - my excuse is that I have spent the last few days in a remote part of Wales , no phone/ internet yet and my mobile is similar shape to a brick hence returning to over 150 emails . Congratulations to the main team of Cambo , Dippy , Megilland Gridkocker et al .plus Al the Posters who took the time to submit Objections. You all worked so hard - interesting to read that the Fire Chief considered the objections from Organisations like English Heritage , Victoria Society etc - if it had not been Posters on this site none of them would have been aware -! Must add that Mrs Ubique is also very pleased because there is now no need for me ( with Bobby ) to camp on the roof of the Working Boys Home . WELL DONE GANG - PEOPLE POWER AND COMMON SENSE WINS.
-
I don't - but some people might think that they already have enough rubbish from Bobby. As an aside I had to resuscitate my black wheelie bin which was delivered on the 18th Aug - Mrs U went out today to dust it as she does every day and found it lying on its side , had to carefully lift it up into the sitting position and revive it with a coffee - appears to have recovered ready for more rubbish on the 7th Nov.
-
Megillland , having read the "Additional Documents" I can only agree with you . Whilst I know nothing about Licensing Applications common sense tells me that the Left Bank are employing a Solicitor to deal with the Application who one would hope would be following the correct policy etc.expected by the Council and Police.
-
We all know the answer to that ........think it wasn't in the Councils interest to ask . Wonder if , other than the Cllrs is there much support for smashing down the Working Boys Home for a poorly designed Fire Station?
-
You cannot beat the element of surprise - socket to them , apologies for plugging this subject .
-
Have to report that I have seen them wearing all the H and S requirements whilst planting flowers on the Whitecross Roundabout . I tried to get Mrs Ubique to follow suit when she is planting bulbs ........guess what her reply was ? AND she survived - thank goodness!

Bobby , I am sure that a Nurse continues to care for your every need - I hope so !
-
Doh ! Reference my post 12 , it was my tendons that had to be rejoined not ligaments ( not being a medical person they could for all I know be the same ! ) Further to the report , similar to my experience a number of patients also suffered from dehydration .
-
Just read the A and E part of the report - not sure what to say except that some parts of it beggars belief . Of real concern was the apparent delays in seeing children. One child with head injuries was not seen until he was sick in the waiting room. It suggests that medicial staff were not really triage attendees face to face but relying on what the Receptionist put on the computer . Report included the fact that medicial instruments designed for one use only were being used more that once ! Noticed that a number of the Senior Management Team changed over very near to the time of the Inspection - wondered where the previous management are employed now. Hopefully only good can come out of this damming report , will require a lot of hard work by the 2700 Management and Staff.

My experience at this hospital was two years ago when I was putting an axe back into its sheath , I missed the sheath and cut my hand ,in doing so cut the ligaments . I went to A and E , supurb service , after initial treatment was told that I would be called back the next day to have the ligaments repaired . Told not to eat or drink from 10pm The hospital would phone me in the morning to tell me what time to report . Next day phone went at 7.15am instructing me to be there at 8am . I was told to get changed into the "gown" and relax on the bed. By 4pm still with nil by mouth I was in a state of collopse , they had to connect me to a drip to re hydrate me. I finally went to the operating theatre at 5.15 pm and allowed home at 10pm . So to sum up I was very pleased with most of the Service I received and not so pleased with the rest .

Thanks Megilleland , see that it's been privatised since 1st Jan 2012 .
-
Quite surprised to read Cllr Chappells post relating to the issue of the BlueBadge being privatised , presume that there is a very good reason for this to be changed .
-
When I read the letter that Megilleland posted I thought that I had read a very similar letter some time ago in the HT - forgive me if I am incorrect but it sounded familiar .
-
Had it crossed your mind that perhaps he is Bobby - if so should be very interesting !
-
Cambo , you have my vote .

Letter sent to parents - suspicious character near school
Ubique replied to megilleland's topic in Redhill
Whilst the safety of children is paramount I found the wording of the School letter strange in as much it reports that the parents of the children were with an adult , described as the children's father . I find it hard to believe that any " suspicious character " would try and entice children into his car whilst the person apparently in charge of the children looks on. -
Megaland - quick question , do you know when Council funding stops / withdrawn ?
