Petition: Reverse Decision To Reduce Grass Cutting
Ubique replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
Quote ......Also - in Hereford on that servery - "we" choose to reduce the bus service. Im guessing those replies are from people who have cars and dont need a bus. Sod those people who live out in the sticks - if they cant drive - $uck em! They shouldnt have chosen to live out in the middle of no where! I have passed my three score and ten a few years ago -we reside in a small village 4.5 miles to the NW of Hereford . I still have a car and drive all over the country - however Mrs Ubique and I still use the bus at least once a week to travel into and return from Hereford . We completed the survey and surprise surprise the timetable has changed - however we have no complaints regarding the new timetable - we , of course have bus passes ( and grateful to have them ) the bus into the City is at 0930 and returns a couple of hours later . The major difference is that on the inbound route the bus used to stop at the City Bus Station which suited us - it now stops at the bus stop outside the new shopping centre - no problem . We still wait for the bus on the outward bound trip at the City Bus Station . I know that I am only reporting about one bus trip , I am sure , but have no knowledge that other services my not suit all the bus travellers.- 427 replies

WW1 ,this is my effort - it's nothing compare to what really happened . One only has to read the names on War Memorials to see the effect / personal grief of war . The Poppy seeds were purchased from B and Q with all profits going to TRBL - a good cause.- 427 replies

Ipsos mori carrying out national highways & transport survey
Ubique replied to Cambo's topic in Open Forum
Shouldn't think that this company do these surveys for nothing - the Council or the Govt. must be footing the bill -
I emailed the Council last October re Bewell St - double yellow lines and taxies , below was his reply On 28 Oct 2013, at 08:50, "Hepworth, David" <dhepworth@herefordshire.gov.uk> wrote: Dear Ubique Thank you for your enquiry. This is an area of great frustration for all concerned which includes the taxi drivers and my enforcement officers. Taxi drivers are allowed to pick up pre-booked fares on Bewell Street that are ready to be picked up but should not sit and wait in the hope that someone will come out of Tesco and get into their taxi, which we know that they try to do. When we patrol Bewell Street the taxi drivers see the enforcement officer and move on. If a driver does not move the officer will speak to the driver to see why he is waiting and unless there is a good reason the officer will ask the driver to move on. The drivers who are unable to get on the small taxi rank tend to leave the area but simply go around the ‘block’ and come back again. As soon as my officers leave the area they start the whole process of queuing again. We have issued a few penalty charge notices to taxis on Bewell Street in instances where the driver has refused to move or left the vehicle unattended but normally the driver is in the vehicle and moves when the officers come along. We have also done joint patrols with the police to try and make more of an impact but as neither the police or us can be in the area all of the time the problem continues whenever we are not in the street. Petition: Reverse Decision To Reduce Grass Cutting
Ubique replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
Western Daily Press. 18th July 2014 ......not sure if they really mean they will send " a letter to every person in the county " , should keep the Posties busy . The firm tasked with cutting ‘a jungle’ of unkept grass across Wiltshire is to send a letter to every person in the county to apologise for not being up to the job. But Balfour Beatty Living Places, which controversially won a £50 million contract to maintain Wiltshire’s roads, verges, parks and fields for years, said it was responding to residents’ concerns and was drafting in 11 new teams to get on top of the job after residents across the county deluged the council with complaints. The council’s contractor said it was pledging to get on top of the job, and had devised an ‘action plan’ with council chiefs left on the receiving end of dozens of daily complaints from Mere to Minety over the grass cutting. Residents in dozens of villages had resorted to mowing playing fields, parks, playgrounds, open spaces and verges themselves, and opposition councillors and residents accused Balfour Beatty of winning the contract with a multi-million pound bid too low to mean they could fulfil the work. Petition: Reverse Decision To Reduce Grass Cutting

Letter in the Wiltshire Newspaper Council taxpayers want to see grass cut How many readers have received their VIP invitation from Wiltshire Council leader, Jane Scott, to attend the VIP opening of the council's new refurbished offices on Monday, June 23? Preparations for this grand event are well under way judging by the number of times over the past few weeks that the grass area in front of County Hall has been lovingly cut and manicured. During that same time local councillors, including myself, have been deluged with complaints from the public regarding the lack of grass-cutting throughout our wards. At the time of writing some areas have not received one cut this year; or where they have been cut, the quality of the work is abysmal. I regularly receive four or five complaints a day. One lady, who phoned, said that when the Balfour Beatty team did finally turn up, they packed up halfway through. She asked them why they were leaving. "We have to get back to Exeter", was their reply. Local councillors are thoroughly fed up taking the flak for the failings of County Hall. You would have thought that Jane Scott and the responsible cabinet member, John Thomson, would have publicly apologised for all the failings with the grass-cutting contract. After all, they awarded the contract to Balfour Beatty. No, it has been left to the ordinary backbench councillors to try to sort it out. This, frankly, is not good enough and demonstrates a lack of leadership. A fair number of ordinary councillors will not be attending the event. We simply want the grass in our wards to be cut to the same standard as it is outside County Hall. At the age of 85 I discovered that my mother was drinking at least two litre bottles of Famous Grouse a week. She was a secret drinker , no evidence when I visited her . Only came to my attention because she collapsed and was seen by her Dr. He said that she must not drink any alcohol , plans were put in place to prevent her from purchasing any , I expected problems but there were not any . Nor has she drunk alcohol since- over 8 years. She is now 93 , looking fit and well in a very good care home. As an aside she smoked since she was 14 - when she entered to care home at the age of 90 she was asked not to smoke - she has not had a smoke since. When I see her on her birthdays / Christmas I take bottles of non alcohol wine which is enjoyed by her and the other residents. Moral of this disclosure is that some people can give up alcohol at a stroke without any apparent medical problems etc.

This is an initiative being trailed in London..... Ankle tags that detect if someone has consumed alcohol will be fitted to offenders as part of a scheme designed to cut down on violent drink-fuelled crime. The "sobriety tags", which will be worn around the clock, will enforce abstinence by measuring a person's perspiration every 30 minutes and testing to see if it contains alcohol. If any trace is found, an alert will be sent to the offender's probation officer and they can then be recalled to court, where they could face sanctions such as a fine or be re-sentenced. The 12-month scheme is being trialled in four London boroughs - Croydon, Lambeth, Southwark and Sutton. It was launched by London Mayor Boris Johnson on Thursday and is based on a successful programme in the US.

We'll done Trading Standards - keep chipping away - sure that you have more Intellengance on other Eastern Europeon shops in the County. When you do the raids carry on naming and shaming. Colin - well done with this news - hasn't hit the HT web page yet ! -
Dippy , I agree fully with you on this one . Chris , very sorry to hear about your epilepsy - like Dippy , I cannot imagine how you manage living with that situation . I can also understand your frustration and at times anger at what you see as an injustice when you hear and read of the amount of Benefit and other Public money being "thrown" at the street drinkers / homelessness and drug users.

My sincere apologies to the Council for even thinking that they would do such a thing.
-
The Council are probably working on the assumption that they had so much grief when they maliciously cut down the Lime Trees that they are reluction to cut anything resembling a tree ( well that's my theory !)
-
Couldn't agree more . ( I accept fully that it appears that they are going to employ more staff - should think mostly part time - that would be good news if / when it happens )

Bobby , somebody had to say it ......Best it came from you Old Friend . You can now return to the Commersial with a clear heart . Maybe a good idea you do not visit the Traveller Rest when the Three S's have their Summer Strimmer's Show. -
Apologises for the double take - this is only my second Post - plenty of comments - but only second post . Bit of history ! The only Military Charity during the WW1 was SSFA ( No A Airman ) they were added later .Because the Govt of the day were so unprepared for the high number of deaths during the first months SSFA paid widows their Widows Pensions , otherwise they would have received nothing .

Petition: Reverse Decision To Reduce Grass Cutting

Cllr Vaughen- Powell - from what I have read and heard from other it's a fact that you are a hard working Cllr for your patch . However your post does require an answer - I will bounce it back to ALL the Cllrs. - shouldn't all the Cllrs be asking the questions and like Jim has done - publish both the searching questions and the answers . I have said before that it appears to the general public that this Council is being run / lead by very few Cllrs and the other Cllrs act like lap dogs when it comes to the big issues effecting the residents of this County. If i am wrong - I apologies but it's how it appears to me.- 427 replies
