  1. Bobby , all noted - one day I will post my experience with dealing with the Bill Longmore the PCC. Doesn't make pretty reading . I never voted last time , nor will I the next time , they are a very big quango costing us a lot of money . ( I would have told you now but Mrs Ubique and I are halfway through a BBQ with a number of friends - some are playing draughts with cans of beer ( mine) - you know what that means ! )
  2. Bobby - I must now disagree with your postings - however - I don't have a problem with other people opinions as long as people understand my opinions . Then I don't have a problem to walk away and say 'you're entitled to your opinions'. I have " Communicated " with Insp Semper and I do believe that he is a genuine guy . He appears to have the right attutide to his role in society and the cherry on the cake is that he is a Veteran . Bobby , this is posted with the greatest respect to you - but , we beg to differ . Best wishes and stay healthy D
  3. Re my meeting with Insp Semper - due to both our commitments (which I will not bore you with ) the meeting will not take place until mid August . I am happy with that . At the meeting I will ask him Bambi' question ( means nothing to me ) but it appears that the Insp. will know. Bambi , can you please message me with the point that you are making ? It will help me ask the question and the Insp to answer it - thank you. Just a thought - if anybody else has a question relating to Policing within the City centre please message me and I will ask .
  4. Below is the reply that I received from Insp Semper - I have replied to him stating that I am unavailable this week but hoping we can meet next week .- will update this post after the meeting. Dear David, Thank you for the email. I would be delighted to meet you at your earliest convenience so that I can give you a comprehensive answer to your question. Are you available today? I am working from 07:00 to 19:00hrs and will be based at the Bath Street Police Station. Perhaps you can call in for a chat? Kind regards, Nick S.
  5. Dippy - actually found it to hot to drink anything other than water . Sent the email whilst it was on my mind - my memory is not what it used to be , with or without the energy drinks !
  6. Assuming that Nick Semper doesnt read this, perhaps you should mail him directly Ubique? Yes , email sent to Insp Semper.
  7. To see two Police Officers together during the day in a peaceful part of the City does not , at first glance appear value for money or good use of limited resources . However one might have been showing the other Officer the ropes , ie his patch etc. or tongue in cheek one was teaching the other to ride the pedal cycle ready for the Cycling Professional Test ( only joking ! )
  8. I do not do Twitter - this type of communication is about my limit. However it's been suggested that Insp Sempet may read these posts so , as suggested I will ask him the question . Insp Semper...... During the busy times of the day when there is a high number of families with children etc in the High Town area is there a Police Officer or PSCO allocated to the area ? I accept fully that there might have been but was diverted to an incident on both days .? During my two spells in the area, Monday and Tuesday I did not see any uniformed Police Officer or PSCO . saw plenty of families , quite a number of unaccompanied young children , drunks etc as well as the usual number of cyclists riding full pelt through the Pedestrian Area coupled with a number of cars , both of which I believe are not allowed after 1030 am . The presence of a Police Officer or PSCO must help to prevent certain types of crime and anti social behaviour , I also think , maybe wrong , that the definition of a Police Officers role is amongst other duties is " the prevention and detection of crime "
  9. Have been in the area of High Town , Hereford between 1100 and 1400 for the last two days - very busy with Parent / s with children , high number of families , holidaymakers etc .cyclists and motor vehicles wiz zing through after the 1030 closure ! All that's lacking is the visible presence of a Police Officer . There will always be a very good reason why but the sight of a Police Officer in uniform gives reassurance to the law abiding members of the public. I am sure that a couple of posters will give good and valued reason why there are no Uniform Police Officers in High Town area but I will refer back to the last line of the previous paragraph.
  10. Interesting answers to some searching questions - thank you Jim. My condolences for your family bereavement.
  11. Forget the Herefordshire Tourism Board , I am sure that within a few weeks tourists ( not football supporters ) will be flocking to this fine City to meet and listen to our King ( just hope that melons are still in season , by then ,if they are still on Bobbys cart the original melons will have passed being rancid ! )
  12. There is a very fine line between public censorship and the need to counter the threat of terrorism - whilst I will support fighting terrorism anyway this County can , the Govt.of the day should not use terrorism as an excuse to censor a number of other means of communication etc.
  13. He has also included one of Bobby's posts in his blog , scroll down the page a bit .
  14. From BBC Shropshire - seems that Shropshire are doing the same.......? Councillors have approved plans to spend £1m to help establish a new university in Shrewsbury. The institution would start life as a part of the University of Chester, but the long-term aim is to turn it into a free-standing university. The first courses are expected to start in September 2015 and cater for up to 400 students. At a meeting of full council there was cross-party support to approve a £1m budget to develop plans. Keith Barrow, leader of the Conservative-led Shropshire Council, said it was good news for the county. "It's good for young people, it's good for Shropshire, it's good for business and the research facilities that will come along with it," he said. "The original research the university did suggested says it would bring £60m a year into the Shropshire economy. "I think the long-term effects will be even greater than that." Final locations for the university are expected to be approved within the next few months. Sites suggested include the Guildhall in Frankwell, the town library, the council's Shirehall offices, Abbey Foregate car park and Rowley's House.
  15. Hey Bobby , old mate - are you doing fundraising for the Syphillis Party / Association or just returned from a session at the Commercial ....? Whichever way stay happy and healthy friend.
  16. From the HT IT'S Our County have triumphed in this evening's Ledbury by-election, claiming a seat previously occupied by the Conservatives. Town councillor and former mayor Terry Widdows secured his place on the county council after winning the by-election which was prompted by the death of Cllr Peter Watts in May. Cllr Widdows saw off Conservative rival Cllr Allen Conway, another former Ledbury mayor, and Paul Stanford from UKIP. The turnout and margin of victory will be announced in the morning.
  17. "The proof will be in the pudding, measure the success of the police approach through your own observations, give it time and then post an honest view whether you are feeling safe in the city" Maybe I am wrong but I do not think that these 15 British Subjects made the town unsafe - I have never bothered them - and in return they have never bothered me . If at the end of this initiative the 15 are better people sorting out their respective lives and reducing their alcohol intake they will be in a better place but as I said previously , the safety feeling or otherwise will not change either way. We all know that in the main the City is a safe place at most times of the day .
  18. Roger , I think that you may have given a reason why the Police are reluction to arrests these 15 , or just one of them. The Officers know that if they arrest them the Custody Sgt will not be too pleased for a number of reasons , if the arrested person decorates his cell similar to the example from Roger it means that the cell is out of action until it's deep cleaned . The mode of transport may also need deep cleaning . If there is a shortage of cells because one or more are out of action prisoners will have to be transported to other Custody Suites taking at least two Officers away from Hereford for a few hours.. The prisoner will have to be strip searched - not a pleasant , but necessary task .
  19. I like that but...... Guess that I am " old school " !
  20. Welcome Slim. For my 50th birthday Mrs Ubique took me to Prague for a holiday - beautiful city . Stopped at a very nice hotel near to Charles Bridge. We invited a Czech male friend to join us for Dinner . On the menu was Carp , I am not a big fish (portions) eater but had to try the local treat . Never again , as described earlier it was just like eating watery mud . The Carp is a real treat to The Czech people hence the reason our friend ordered the same . As an aside , on , I think Midland News the other night saw Water Bailiffs wearing stab proof vests - sign of the times ?
  21. From Wales on line..... A major police hunt is underway after burglars raided a home and stole a priceless Welsh relic - said to be the mythical 'Holy Grail'. The Nanteos Cup – an ancient wooden chalice , which is named after the mansion where it was once kept near Aberystwyth – was rumoured to have been carried over to Britain by Joseph of Arimathea, years after the crucifixion of Christ. The revered Catholic figure later founded a religious settlement at Glastonbury and legend has it that the 'grail' then came into the safekeeping of monks. The Cup came to Nanteos Mansion, near Aberystwyth, with seven monks from Strata Florida, Ceredigion, on the dissolution of the Abbey in the reign of Henry VIII. The Powell family was left in possession of the sacred vessel after the last of the seven monks died. Over the centuries the mysterious wooden bowl was said to have magical healing powers and, in later years, it came into the ownership of the Steadman family, who kept it in a bank vault in Wales. But it is understood the cup has now been stolen by burglars after being temporarily loaned to a seriously ill woman connected to the Steadman family at a property in Ross-on-Wye . Raiders struck after she had been admitted to hospital. They stole the dark wood cup, which had been kept in a blue velvet bag - sparking a major police investigation by West Mercia Police. It is understood burglars struck at the property in Weston under Penyard, between last Monday and yesterday. The cup was previously included in a Channel Five documentary called Search for the Holy Grail. In the programme, experts claimed it was actually made at least 1,400 years after the crucifixion. The Welsh relic first gained notoriety when it was put on display in 1870 at Lampeter University by the owner of Nanteos House. After that, although it was kept behind glass at the stately home, the cup was still regularly filled with water for distributing to the homes of the ill and infirm.
  22. We have a teacher friend up in Yorkshire - she danced for joy ,and it wasn't because her school had broken up for the summer. She also hopes that the damage done can be repaired .
