Traffic Lights Campaign - Part -Time Lights 7pm-7am
Ubique replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
Signed and shared . Best of luck Colin with your efforts. This morning (Good Friday) travelled up Edgar St to Bewell St ( Tesco) Traffic Island , in lane three intending to turn right after the island to travel up Whitecross Rd. Traffic light because it was a BH , forced to stop at the traffic lights on red, with a number of other vehicles , no vehicles approaching from Steels Corner and beyond , if the lights had been switched off over the BH and the junction used as a Give Way junction all traffic would have negotiated the island safely. In the USA at a number of junctions with Traffic Lights drivers turning right are allowed to use the junction as a Give Way junction rather than comply with the traffic lights - that works very well - let common sense prevail ! This could work very well at a number of junctions in the City.- 82 replies

Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*

From the HCC recent Press Release .......reads as if they do "deliver of other Council Priorities such as Affordable Housing " Good to read that the posters on this site know better - I trust what most of the posters write . The Bath Street offices in Hereford, which are surplus to requirement following the relocation of staff to other locations, will be transferred to HWFRS via a land swap. This not only ensures that the council receives the market value equivalent for the site and isn’t left with a costly vacant property, but also provides land at the former fire station site for the delivery of other council priorities, such as affordable housing. -

Perhaps , and only perhaps ,if the Council are telling the truth in their press release and are looking for land to build Social Housing ( and in their wisdom ! They have decided that the Working Boys Home must be knocked down ) surely , if that area of land is twice the area of the Fire Station site common sense would suggest that they can build more Social Housing homes on this site than the Fire Station site . Before someone says that I am talking as if I know nothing about building homes they are right, but I have attended the university of life which included A Grade in common sense! -

Hey Dippy , it's not fair that you are holding a secret from us ! But we understand why - I think ! Note that HCC have a press release on their website say how much we need a new Fire Station and the Bath St location suits everybody! It also adds that the old Fire Station and the land can be used to the benefit of the residents of Hereford ,for example Social Housing. Time will tell -

Dippy , you are so right , they must loose power , my worry is that they all , except one live and represent villages and towns outside of Hereford and if in their residents eyes they appear to be doing a good job we have a problem , this can be overcome by the other Parties putting up excellent local People to stand against them. Hells bells , I know nothing about the setup so all the above may well be rubbish - however I know that they must be booted out of power May 2015. -

Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*

From the HT , News Flash at 4pm today THE land swap deal that gets Hereford a new fire station on the site of Herefordshire Council’s Bath Street offices has been done. This afternoon (Mon), the council confirmed that Councillor Harry Bramer, cabinet member for contracts and assets, has approved the deal as recommended – subject to any scrutiny call-in. -
Stupidflustration .... Cllr MH appears to be a very good Cllr and will be missed and I accept that some may say that Cllrs do not get paid much , however I must add that a very high number of Volunteer Charity workers / supporters get paid nothing or just their expenses for supporting their chosen charity . So that ,in my humble thoughts is not a reason to give up . . I am sure the Cllr Hubbard has a very good reason to step down , but I do not think that it's money .

Biomech ...I agree 100% with you - they have been found guilty in a discipline hearing and should be named and shamed , they have brought discredit to the WMP .
-
From the apparent Press Release by WM Police as published in the HT " West Mercia Police said it does not currently name officers or staff dismissed." To be fair to WMP apparently it was the CPS that decided not to prosecute these Officers - in view of all the news about the CPS raises the question ....are they fit for purpose ? .

This is unbelievable ........my thought as a tax paying layman is surely they should be keeping the paperwork which relates to VAT and tax for the Inland Revenue et al to inspect . I would suggest that if they have shredded these relevant / important papers some bodies head will be rolling down Edgar St. If they still retain them good , hopefully the auditors will cast an eye over them ? Mrs Ubique asked if she could have the shredded paper ready for the next influx of hedgehogs.

For what it's worth - I have been told that there is a plan ( some say cunning plan ) which suggests that County Bus Station may well be converted into a multi storey car park . The suggestion is that visitors to the hospital would rather pay the council to use this car park rather than pay the high charge to use the hospital car park .i do accept fully that a multi storey car park will cost money. -
Bobby , you get criticised by some posters for your comments - other posters ( me included ) understand where you are coming from . You raised this subject and others followed and supported it - Cllr Chappell has been working in the background and all in all a very good result . Well done Bobby , Cllr Chappell and all the supporters of this worth while project.

There may be very good reasons why they were not prosecuted - wondering how many prosecutions of possibliy guilty offenders were not pursued by the CPS because of these Officers apparent misdoings. It's a sad state of affairs and it appears ,on the increase . I have always had a lot of time and support for the Police who at times do a very diffucult and dangerous job ( well paid ) but their support from the Public must be drifting away . Was drummed into me years ago that the Police only serve with the consent and support of the Public - loss either and we as a whole have a problem in Society

As a member of this site for a number of months --and who is banned from the Hereford Times Comments I can say that that the HT do not want to rock the boat , there is never any investigate journalism , they just go with the flow - for example they reported that there had been an RTC on the A 49 just outside the HT offices , two lines , nothing more . When there was an alleged Robbery near to the underpass leading from Eign Gate to Eign St there was more information from this site (HV) than the HT who could / should have sent a reporter to cover what was apparently a very serious incident . They had no concern for the alleged victim. The story's are there but the HT do not appear to want , for whatever reason to follow / report them.

Twowheelgood , I now accept that I was in the wrong by making light of a serious problem. I misunderstood Bobbys post which I presumed was in keeping with the holiday mood we find him in. Was not privy to previous complaints and action by the authorities.

Could it be "Pets at Home" ?

He is a good honest person - something which most of us think is lacking in politics , as proved recently.

Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*

Bobby said ..". We'll do it. Me and the older members haven't got jobs, we've little or no responsibility so we'll pick up the slack and take on the burden " Guess that includes me and the rest of the Old and Bold . I can picture Bobby bunking me and Gridknocker up onto the roof of the Working Boys Home after Cambo has inspected it for H and S . -
Bobby , that's good news , well done . Now go to that place you told me about - after which let's enjoy a pint ( or two )

Noteworthy Hereford and Herefordshire personalities
Ubique replied to megilleland's topic in Open Forum
I do surveys for the War Memorial Trust , just carried one out at Holy Trinity Church , Whitecross Road , Hereford and found the following name on the War Memorial in the Church Yard. Major Charles A L Yate VC .... You can Google him to find out his history , the problem that I have at the moment is that he resided at Madeley near to Telford and served in the Kings own Yorkshire Light Infantry , to date I have not found a Hereford connection , hence this post - hoping that somebody has knowledge of local connections . ( I am, of course making further enquiries in his home town and with the KOYLI Museum in Doncaster )
