Herefordshire Council Plans to Evict 5 Farm Families TFA Chief Executive George Dunn The Tenant Farmers Association has called on Herefordshire Council to shelve plans to serve Notices to Quit on five farm families on Monday 01 February. Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet decided at its meeting in December to have a planned disposal of its farms estate but assurances were given to tenants that they would be looked after. TFA Chief Executive George Dunn said “The Council is steamrolling ahead with no regard for the impact of its actions on farm tenants and with no clear plan. The TFA has been trying to engage with Cllr Harry Bramer, the member responsible for County Farms, but so far he has been unwilling to meet us. I last wrote to Councillor Bramer on 10 January asking for, at least, an indicative timetable for the planned disposal which has yet to be approved by the Cabinet. He has not had the courtesy of responding and left the County Council’s land agents to deliver the news about the Notices to Quit both to us and the tenant farmers affected. We need to know more about the timetable to which the Council is working, what the draft disposal plan looks like and when the council will be ready to have a meeting.†The TFA also accuses councillors of misleading statements and acting beyond their remit. “At the meeting of the Council’s Cabinet in December, various assurances were given which are not being followed throughâ€, said Mr Dunn. The Cabinet meeting minutes say that the Council Leader ‘emphasised that rumours that people would be turned out of homes was [sic] not accurate and whilst there would be some changes, it was arguably to the advantage of tenantsâ€. “How can the service of notices to quit on these five families be advantageous to them? The Council is turning people out of their homes without any recourse and is reneging on the assurance that this would not happen,†said Mr Dunn. “The Cabinet also said that affected tenants ‘would be supported through the process’. If kicking tenants out of their homes is being supportive, I would hate to see the Council taking a hardline!†said Mr Dunn. The Leader of the Council said ‘it was not the case that the tenants were to lose their livelihood or suffer in some way, they were protected through new ownership’. “It is now clear that the Cabinet had no intention of allowing these tenants the option of having a new landlord, it simply wants to evict them,†said Mr Dunn. Finally the leader said that tenants would have ‘the opportunity to make offers for their properties and the council would sell to them’. “There is no evidence of the council engaging with tenants on purchases. If the Council continues with the decision to serve notices to quit it will have reneged on every promise given in reaching the Cabinet’s decision. This seems to the TFA as ultra vires†said Mr Dunn. end Ref: MR08 Date: 29 January 2016 Notes for Editors: For further information contact George Dunn on 07721 998961 or the TFA Communications and Events Co-ordinator Jenna Kirkpatrick on 0118 930 6130.

Funny Osmosis how by attempting to belittle my comment you ignore the point I was making.

So many things are being cut back in this country including police numbers and there is a danger that this country is leaving itself wide open to problems that it has not go the capability of sorting out. Yes it would be lovely to welcome thousands of people into this country to give them a better life but have we really got the resources to cover all eventualities? In my experience people are very quick to preach about what should be done but when it comes down to it do very little themselves to alleviate the situation. Without identifying yourself Osmosis have you got first hand experience of the refugee camps and what are you personally and financially prepared to do to help?

I hear of more attending the walk in centre than actually going to A & E. Never heard a bad report and the doctors are exceptional. It's got to stay open

Worcester do the same and Powys for garden rubbish.

I am going off topic good on you Ubique you and your fellow seniors deserve all the financial *** bits you get.You have paid into society all your life- enjoy
-
Osmosis it is not me you need to preach to. I can assure you the person I was talking to is not a rumour monger and to contact HC would be a total waste of my time and the time of the person answering the phone. As a matter of interest who do you suggest I ask to speak to at the Council.
-
Osmosis I do not know who you are and I do not really want to but you have missed the point I was making. We do not have the things that I have said will be needed for an influx of 1800 people. Our services are already struggling to cope and over burden them further and it will all just crumble. I do not doubt that the refugees will be given every possible aid and assistance to settle into this country and that is where the trouble will begin not everybody is as big hearted as you possibly are. People are already feeling short changed by the Government's cuts and take even more away from people and it will cause unrest. Before everybody jumps at me no I am not against helping the refugees but not at the cost of the services people in this country are accustomed to

I remember now who told me about the 1800 Syrians for Herefordshire and this person would be reliable in the info given. Foster families a reliable and up to speed Social Service department a hospital with far more capacity than it has now to incude Mental Health facilities - Hereford has all those in place has it? And that is just a few of the resources that are required

On Countryfile last night it reported on a farmer who has developed a system for growing tomatoes in this country in winter using LED bulbs. Absolutely fascinating viewing. Only 25% of the tomatoes consumed in this country are home produced. Long live the LED bulbs so we can have decent British toms in the winter

Good job the Poles and Italians were not sent home after the war they brought vital skills and hard work to this country. " There were 3.7 million children living in poverty in the UK in 2013-14. That's 28 per cent of children, or 9 in a classroom of 30.1." Are there really 3000 suitably trained bilingual families up running and ready to give a warm loving home to children who will be extremely frightened desparate and vulnerable. Who would police this Social Services or charities and who pays? I am not saying no but praticalities have to be considered and this country has not got a good record for caring for vulnerable children. Only 50 years children from this country were still being sent to Australia via charities to what they were told to be better lives many were used and abused and had horrible lives losing all contact with their blood relatives. No innocent human being should have to live in the squalid conditions these people are enduring in Calais but I do not know the answer. This country can only do so much and sadly this country has fallen too behind in it's own housekeeping to open it's arms too widely.

Yes confirmed BB are taking over responsibility of all bins
-
Yes indeed what rubbish am I talking about! Yes I thought I had heard that they were taking over all rubbish collection I will see if I can check on this later or tomorrow and confirm one way or another
-
BB have now taken on the rubbish collection so perhaps they have decided to get the ones parked up drinking tea or leaning on a shovel working a full day. No I don't think the money paid to BB will be reduced not in a million years there is only one way that will go

As a sole trader showing a trading loss he must have stumped an awful lot of money for materials and labour prior to getting paid. Must have a very sympathetic bank/backer.

Shame this kind of contract was not given to a Hereford based company. The only decorating contract of this size that I can think of is the Oval redevelopment but that is not Council. The payment has been made direct to B G Brain so it is not subcontract so that narrows it all down a bit.
