A good website is worth it's weight in gold... (hrrmm)... and you often pay for specialist time, like you would a plumber or electrician. Writing code by hand can take a long time (but is more fun). And you have a team or multi talented individual working on a project, you need project management, a web designer, graphic design and a coder. Possibly a database engineer. For things like council sites you need to adhere to accessibility recommendations - I don;t know if they do and it's too late to get into that, but Google for an AAA checker. My issue with this is more that what they have to show doesn't correspond to the money paid. Many of the websites that they have are known as "brochureware" websites, microsites that comprise mostly of static content - ie no backend databases or dynamic scripting. Even more worrying is that a large majority of the council websites just don;t work. They run alpha and beta versions live for public use for months to years on end. £20,000 for a network of websites that fully integrated into the council management system (pot hole reports and status, refuse collection databases etc) that would be extraordinarily cheap. But £20,000 for hereyoucan is very expensive, Not to mention it was contracted out to a company in London.

I would, but, in all honesty, it doesn't interest me, I just think it's a pointless idea :P You know, I did notice that it looked abandoned during my "30 ******* minutes" of sitting in gridlocked traffic :P I don't know what's happened to that media center opposite sainsburys but that was part of the colleges at one point, I think last I saw it was covered in scaffolding

hah, whenever I get invoices from Parking Eye they go straight in the bin. I agree with dippy, when i got to the hospital, I park in morrisons, although the last time I did pay the £1

I was speaking to my old man earlier, he lives in Worcester. Hows this for a story... So he parks on double yellows to run into a shop to ask them something. When he came out (he said about 3 minutes later...) there was a traffic warden standing, arms crossed by his car. So he ran down the driveway from the shop, shouting at the guy "wait wait, don't write a ticket yet". When he got up to the traffic warden, the warden said "I wasn't going to, I sent a lady in to the shop to try and find you, I was just waiting for her to come back" Blown away, he thanked the warden, who told him "my job is to keep the traffic flowing, if I give you a ticket, you might leave the car here for the rest of the day, blocking traffic, Now I've found you, you'll be on your way and the traffic will return to normal." He said he wanted to write a letter to the council about how surprised he was and how pleasant the warden was, but he feared that the warden might get into trouble for not issuing a ticket.

Well they need whatever they use for no parking and it needs to be enforced, it's getting beyond a joke,. We all drive right side which means to get in / out of their vehicles they have to stand even further into the road. Soon someone is going to be hit because of these ******* dickheads who have nothing but blatant disregard for everyone else

I too understand that they are just trying to make a living, but Hitler was just trying for a better world. It's got to the point (I regular complain about the chuggers* in high town) where you need to scream and shout abuse at them. Maybe then places like Morrisson's will opt to not have them hassling their customers. * CHarity mUGGERS, a term that I recently stumbled upon, inspired by their behaviour

Let's be realistic here, if this "university" goes ahead, it's not going to be a nice university campus, it's going to be lectures in meeting rooms and back alley buildings dotted around the city. Look at the art college, that's now spread to various "media" centers all over town, filling old rooms and buildings like the old job centre.

Absolutely need yellow lines and ticketing outside the leisure centre, it's worse than when the parents are out there. And the tickets need to be issued after 6pm as well. I mentioned this before, but halo monthly membership holders should have parking included in their subscriptions. The cards have barcodes on, it would be trivial to install a barcode scanner to open a barrier - they do this in John Lewis in Cardiff for pickups. Either that or issued with a sticker with their membership number on to put in the car window

Forgive my ignorance, but are cyclists not subject to the same highway code and traffic laws as the rest of us? Surely if it's a one way street, cyclists shouldn't be going up it the wrong way? If it's ok to do so, what about motorcyclists? Mopeds? Bicycles with those little engines on? ....

You know what else bobby, when I was at school and it snowed we used to have to wait in the class room to see if the heating system would come back on, if it didn't we either worked in our coats and gloves or, if we were REALLY lucky, they let us go home. Now they close schools BEFORE it snows on the off chance that it MIGHT snow. It's absolutely ridiculous

I thought about taxi's today, I thought if I was in a taxi, I'd have got out and walked, it really would have been that much quicker. The consequence of course is a drop in taxi fares and the taxi drivers taking a decrease in earnings.

One I could find, whitecross, they finish at 2.30 on a monday and 3 on other days. However, I checked my receipt from The Range and they were definitely pouring out of there at 2pm this Monday. - They only have 1 lesson after lunch! Today they were everywhere, I left the house about 2pm to pick something up from town (see other thread). That said, it took until 3.30 just to get to town, pick up a box and return home (total 2.3 miles each way) At the risk of sounding like bobby, when I was a kid, we worked in class until 3.40pm and after all the crap rarely got home before 4.30

I was beyond fuming earlier bobby my dear chap. Really put a downer on my day. As for bikes, I'd be happy to but they aren't ideal for carrying large bits of equipment :P

Why are all of the schools in Hereford now only running until 2pm ? All this week when I've be out the school kids are all leaving at 2 - 2.15pm and going home. I suppose it's now inhumane to have them do a full day of education.

.. it just took to get from The Victory to the Police Station. I'm getting so f$%**@g sick of this. Consequently, the items that I had due for pick up from local shops have now been cancelled and ordered elsewhere online for delivery. I'm not ******* sitting through that again. I really do pity those local trades people who have to drive around this **** hole on a daily basis.

30 maintainance jobs axed to improve service? Makes perfect sense. Of course, they could have axed 1 managrial position and kept 30 people in work AND services

Looking at that ^^ perhaps the tarmac isn't thick enough? I don't know what the guidelines or recommendations are but that appears to be a thin layer of tarmac over gravel - like skin on custard - which would go some way to explaining why it fails so frequently.

lol that is fantastic

It's a shame that someone like yourself has to hold their hand and supervise the work in order for it to be done.

Hereford Council can't clean up their own public street bins, how on earth are they expecting to deal with everyone elses?
-
I have the room, but it does look unsightly not only at my house but also when you look down the streets

I don't care about him, I was reading the government site and want to know if I can lol

Here are the government details on travel http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/travel.htm .... so hang on, can I claim for mileage AND fuel? I've always only ever claimed mileage. End of the tax year coming up, might have to speak to the accountant. 10 years of back dated fuel claims could make me quite rich :D

The thing is, they are going to run out of things to cut. So next year, when they've wasted more money and got us into more debt, what then? 4 weekly collections? Why are we still paying money to these twats AND paying the price for the financial abuse of several companies/individuals? If I have to dispose of my own rubbish (as they frequently failed to empty the green bin at the front of my house) I WILL be invoicing the council. It would be interesting to know the cost of; Issuing black wheelie bins and replacements Additional callouts for refuse collection; you can call them back if they miss your bins and can call them to collect overloaded areas Cost of cleanup Cost of/if a reduction in housing prices due to deterioration It's too late to go fishing for the details, but studies have proven that a **** hole deteriorates further with an increase in crime where's a well kept area instills confidence and lower crime rates
