Milliihgigiglland - I've been part of a group who implemented that about 8 years ago :) I've always maintained that online shopping isn't a problem if you have knowledgeable staff with a focus of customer experience, not short term profits. Something 99% of shops fall down on. They want that sale, now, end of. They don't engage the customer base or target repeat sales. Give a man a fish.... Once you have someone in the shop, you can pretty much secure a sale - certainly on low ticket items. One of the problems shop owners face is the so called "click and collect" system, where you see it online, order it, and then pick it up in store. The problem here lies that the employers want to promote this system to increase revenue, however, their staff are often on a commission based pay structure so are ultimately losing out. Furthermore, it's A LOT more difficult to sell high margin attachments once the sale is closed. The customer has seen the TV online for £500, ordered it and are going to pick it up. Selling addons at this point is notoriously a sign of bad customer service and every sales person worth their beans will bring up attachments at the start of the sale, not start adding to the total cost after the customer has, essentially, made the purchase.

I tell you what, why can't the "street traders" go into these small units like in the Butter Market or Maylords. A street market is one thing, but to have people standing around selling mobile phone covers from a hat stand is somewhat of an eye sore. I'd also suggest that those clipboard carrying, tabbard wearing "flies" that hassle people throughout town be located to one spot. Setup a table or have one of Raggas' 3x3 units. I get so sick of them EVERY single time I go to town. In fact to the point that I try and use different routes. So if there was something in a shop of interest I wouldn't even know about it because I avoid the street entirely. Fortunately I don't work IN the city centre anymore, but when I did it was worse, you didn't want to go out for lunch because once you've told the first "I love your tshirt, fancy a chat" monkey to f*** off, there's about another 3 waiting up the road to go through the same process. I was going to make a post about them before. They are a nuisance, rarely from Hereford and litter the streets hassling customers and visitors. Setup a table and let people come to you or f*** off!

You say that like it's a good thing. Shop where? There's nothing here and the OLM is only bringing Waitrose and Debenhams, the other major shops going in their we already have, they are just moving them from other parts of the city. I'll give it a chance, but really, there's nothing new coming and I will continued to shop in Worcester, Cardiff and on line. Next time you're out, try and buy a waistcoat for under £100 in Hereford. So if all of the non-K units are now let, under signed contract, does anyone know who is going in? I'd hazard a guess at Accessorize from Colins photos Incidentally Colin, I did the same several months ago, I found the back of McDonalds (Union Street) to be the most desolate. The Chadds end of town looked derelict too as did Widemarsh Street

Steve, you know that little stream thing outside PCWorld/Pizza Hut (http://goo.gl/maps/GbsBO) and that little dirty stream full of trollys and crap next to the Christian Life Centre on Edgar Street (http://goo.gl/maps/ECnze) ? That's the Hereford Canal.

Herefordshire Council CCTV Successfully Bids For Funding
Biomech replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford City
Indeed, a large portion of CCTV footage is too bad of quality to be submissible as evidence in court. It's not really a deterrent as crime continues regardless, it certainly doesn't put off those who want to commit crimes. However, it can aid in collecting evidence. I believe there was a study that showed that high CCTV areas how no less of a crime rate than those without CCTV and that conviction rates were low enough to not warrant the cost. I would go looking for it, but hey, it's Christmas eve! :D -

Unfortunately, CCTV doesn't stop you getting your face kicked in, stabbed or robbed. I'm not so like minded, but appreciate the win for funding. -

Do you know which lane it is in? Perhaps that's one hidden under the flood water. I say a truck hit the one on the other side of Greyfriars bridge (coming south) earlier, the load nearly jumped off the back, I think the driver probably slipped into Asda after for some clean underwear

This is exactly what I mean, if they made their intentions clear and not come out with crap like different versions for different people, if people actually had the opportunity to know what was going on, they wouldn't get half of the complaints that they do. If that is, in fact, for investors, then as an investor I would not be happy about being misled.

I saw the front page of the HT today - lol, where is all of that extra space coming from? In the picture you have, effectively, 6 lanes worth of width. Now, add to that the schematics and it actually appears that they will be removing the centre bollard, removing the grass verge AND removing the slip road for more space. Which leads me on to my second questions, looking a this picture, where you can CLEARLY see that the grass verge AND the slip road (Wall Street) missing ; A: So the slip road is going then? What about access to all of the disabled homes along it? B: Looking at the lack of said road, how are cars going to come out of Tesco car park? Surely not directly onto the mouth of the roundabout? Queue more traffic lights!! Not picking, serious questions.

I'm pretty sure most of the empty shops aren't listed. But you're right, they look like a bag of **** because certain people haven't invested in maintenance of the buildings and surrounding areas. That coupled with high business rates and the council stifling small businesses through long and pointless startup processes, no one will want to use them. Then you're left with a bag of ****, a la left bank. But you can bet if some big multimillionaire or global company had plans for them, things on the councils end would start to get done in a timely manner. And for anyone who's new here. I'm not against the OLM, I just think that they should have fixed what was broke first and sorted out the roads and infrastructure instead of scrapping what we already have and starting again from scratch. I'll have a look when the OLM opens, but right now, there's nothing there that really interests me. We have more than enough supermarkets, not really bother about debenhams and the rest are empty or shops that we already have moving in (Odeon, Next, TK Maxx, H&M and another Costa)

I was expecting someone to say that ;) In a nutshell, because the way the council run the city and the high business rates and lack of maintaince to the surrounding areas of such places - like the riverside, the roads, the parking. People don't want to and can't afford to invest in projects such as the left bank or other places. Look at how long the Crystal Rooms was closed, now it's a spa. Full of missed opportunity because the council make it very difficult for people to develop new businesses. They much rather roll over for people who have a lot of money to do the job for them than help nurture new business and young entrepeneurs. There were big plans to revamp, develop and invest in Broad Street (and thus draw business to that side of town)... until they realise that it would be in competition with the North/West of the city and their precious OLM. I think you're fairly new here, so you might have missed me mention it previously, but when you look at the big picture, the council have focused on the north/west and scrapped the south/east. Eign Gate, Widemarsh Street, OLM, Rockfield - developing areas. Broad Street, Town Centre/Union Street, Left Bank - had plans to invest but were scrapped at the last minute. It's clear that their focus is on moving the centre of the city.

I think people often confuse complaining with moaning.

I think blocking the carparks to council offices is a good idea, make them have to drive around half the day like the rest of us. You'd just have to look into the logistics and legalities between public nuisance and allowable protest

I think I speak for most when I say it's not about "saving" buildings. It's about looking after them so they don't go to **** in the first place. Oxford is packed with historic buildings and it fills the city with character because they are maintained and not left to rot as most things are in Hereford. Look at the Left Bank, that was a complete new build, left to to rot just like everything else. So it doesn't really matter if the building is torn out and something modern put in it's place, the council will fail to look after that as well.

I particularly like the way the board is impeimented for mobile platforms :) It's a joy to use, unlike the HT website which is most definitely NOT mobile friendly!

I think Phil means something like blocking the roads / access to council offices with our cars to highlight the traffic issues

Emergency Vehicles Struggle In Hereford Traffic
Biomech replied to Colin James's topic in Open Forum
And I think we can all agree that if the traffic management, ridiculous rhombus-a-bouts and excessive traffic lights were dealt with, that things would run a bit smoother throughout
