Many thanks for those kind words Ubique! I was intending to pen a verse about the starlings, but could only rhyme starling and darling....or bird and turd! It wasn't happening, I need to rethink that one!!

Cheers Bobby! I penned it in the hope that GDJ would let me off the detention which is looming......!!

"Council Maths." I just can't do council maths, I need to practise more, 'Cos when you're doing council maths, Two add two won't make four. Thirty three divided by ten, Does not make three point three, (And when you're talking millions, That's a big mistake, you see.) You're allowed to double count things, (Which I always thought was wrong.) Loss is greater than profit, When selling assets for a song. And when they count up money, They swear the purse is empty, Yet still they purchase i-pads, And Apple Macs a-plenty. I just can't do council maths, I'd never pass their test. I think I'll stick to poetry, It's the subject I like best! By. D.Hippy.
  4. If I see D¡ck Turpin, I'll be sure to post and let you know!
  5. I would have thought that selling off assets was a last resort - if that truly is the case, then surely getting the very best price should be top priority. Sadly this authority have squandered so much money, that we are, apparently, down to our last £100,000 in reserves. However this council are still happy to saddle us with even more debt to fund an incinerator, which many folk believe is outdated and a huge waste of money. The amount of money that has been thrown at pet projects and people with fancy job titles is quite astounding. In the meanwhile, it transpires that even our beautiful Queenswood, isn't worth hanging on to. But the councils track record on how highly they value trees is still fresh in my memory..... I'd like to know if the Campaign to Protect Rural England will have any comment to make on this. That said, Ofsted had plenty to say about our children's services, and I am yet to hear of any significant improvements......
  6. What negative comments Marc?? I think if you read through the thread, you'll see that we all love the starlings! Many of us post on here in support of front line public services - some of us work on that front line! We understand about cuts. Its needless spending that usually catches our eye - though not in this case it would seem! Have a catch up on a few of the other threads - particularly at the moment "Hoople". I would be really interested to hear your thoughts and opinions. Take care!
  7. I walk under the subway to work most mornings (pretty early) - and most mornings the chap with his cart and brush is already there, cleaning and sweeping the mess and debris. He's there in all weathers, doing a job that many wouldn't like to undertake. Everyday is the same. Everyday the rubbish and vomit are there. Personal responsibility, is sadly, an unknown concept to many folk. It's the same with spitting in the street, and cycling on the pavement, if on the spot fines were issued, and the culprits marched to the cashpoint to pay up , I think we would see a lot less of this. Even a £10.00 fine would have an impact!

A disruptive influence?? This is so unfair! It's always me! Now you've explained things so well, I am truly ashamed of my low test result.....!! I promise to try harder next time!

Ah Yes Ubique!! Many years ago, at All Saints School for boys and girls, we had to chant our times table! It was a brilliant little school. Then on a Friday we had a test - those that Mrs King deemed to have done well got a star...a gold one if you got them all correct! Happy days, days when the word "Hoople" didn't exist......!! Now, its been knocked down, and in its place is the multi storey car park....is that what passes for progress.....???

Please Sir! Please Mr.GDJ! Please may I have a go?? a. 33 divided by 10 = 3.3 b.Just one. c. Pretty poor, I'd say. d.No e,Absolutely not! There! Completed. And not a single expletive has passed my lips.....honestly!
  11. A brilliant comment Marc! Thanks for taking the time to post this update! I for one am really pleased this decision has been made. Whilst I sympathise with the elderley residents concerned, it IS only a temporary thing.....and a truly beautiful one at that! Great profile pic by the way!
  12. But not friendly enough it would seem! Ah well, never mind! A very warm welcome to you anyway Marc, maybe we can tempt you into commenting on another occasion!
  13. Oh! Good evening Mr. Willimont! I see you are also viewing this page! Please add a comment - we are quite a friendly bunch....well, most of the time!
  14. Yes they can indeedy Pauline! Hi Ubique - yes, he was well prepared, barely an inch of him visible!
  15. Correct! Regardless also of how many units are contained within the salt covered walls, the physical size of this monstrosity has changed the look of Hereford as you approach. I used to think Tesco's was too big - that now looks like a corner shop in comparison!

    War!

With the foreign Office now advising British citizens to leave, I can only assume that they anticipate an escalation of this situation. Terrible situation. My heart goes out to those caught up in the crossfire.
  17. Good Lord Megilleland! This is practically a carbon copy of what has been foisted upon us! Shall we change our name now.....to Clone County?
  18. Just seen on Midlands today, that the "distress caller" will not be used again, as it upset the starlings too much!

Blimey! Even more gobbledygook! Let's hope that Flam has called it correctly, and he's off to London - certainly don't want him to be "change and transforming" any more of the public sector in Herefordshire!

Hasn't the council just renegotiated a contract with Hoople? Hope there's an exit clause! I wonder where Mike Dearing will end up next? No doubt he's already got something lined up....
  21. Quite a drop! Thanks for posting the link Roger!
  22. Thanks for sharing that with me - I always appreciate random comments! Do you have a different disguise for this? Perhaps a frogmans costume???
  23. I love to watch the starlings! They were amazing yesterday evening over Whitecross. Its called "murmuration" isn't it, when they all get together and fly as one? It's one of natures incredible feats, and it's the time of year for it. They are surely no more of a problem than the seagulls, and I certainly wouldn't want any harm or distress to be caused to them either! Leave the starlings be!
  24. Precisely Roger! As I said earlier, I cannot see how they can possibly glean any useful information from this - which makes me believe that it is a meaningless, box ticking exercise. There, just so Cllr.Price can say he has listened to the views of The Great Un-Washed!
