  1. If there's one thing I like, it's a man who sticks to his principles!
  2. Well, we're not going to agree there, Mike. How about jumping in on some of the other threads? There is plenty up for discussion, and it would be good to hear your thoughts on these issues.
  3. Perhaps the Charity Commission should be notified as well then?
  4. Evening Two Wheels! I do think that this does need to be looked at by the relevant authority. I would hope that any/all of the councillors/prospective councillors should raise it. It is a matter of concern.
  5. Good point, Roger.
  6. Denise, I haven't a clue what it means! As I said, it's very confusing! I'm hoping someone will be able to shed a little light on this.
  7. Ok folks. Just been reading "Guidance on campaigning and political activities by charities." (part of the .gov.uk website) "This guidance is focussed on the factors that trustees will need to consider in deciding what is right for them to do. It also makes clear that supporting a political party is not an acceptable form of political activity for a charity." "Legal requirement. In the political arena, a charity must stress its independence and ensure that any involvement it has with political parties is balanced. A charity must not give support or funding to a political party, nor to a candidate or politician." Also included in the same guidelines..... "It is essential to note that charities cannot give their support to a political party." Hmmm. Isn't Freedom Church a registered charity??? So who are we being asked to vote for here?? Jon Johnson? The Conservatives?? Or Freedom Church?? I'm a tad confused!
  8. A genuine question now, given the wording on this leaflet, are Freedom Church paying for these leaflets? Have they made a donation to the local Conservative Party? Given that they are a charity, if this is the case, is this within the rules?? I would be most grateful if anybody could enlighten me, and answer any of the above questions, which I personally find rather perplexing......
  9. Hi Frank, I do indeed mean that thread. Thanks so much for kindly providing the handy link! A gold star for you, my friend!
  10. Indeed Denise. A real party atmosphere down there. Portable toilets arriving, and that sound system which would suit a stadium..... The troupes being rallied ahead of next weeks election??? One things for sure, I'm glad I don't live next door...
  11. Bumping again.... please read!
  12. Dazza, if you haven't already... Please read The Freedom Church thread I started a few months ago. There are serious concerns about this group.
  13. This is a very worrying prospect. I'm also concerned that looking at the list of primary and secondary nominators, there are names which would also appear to have a link to Freedom Church. They are extremely well connected. Be VERY careful who you vote for. And what they stand for.
  14. Afternoon Ubique! Clearly you cannot put it in the recycling if it's not recyclable..... so a black bag it will have to be..... unless you can reuse it! What could it be???? We could have a competition!
  15. Political similarity???? Sorry Mike, you've completely lost me. What on earth do you mean??
  16. It's going to take a real leap of faith, isn't it, to do things differently? What about if we trialled the Lights Out scheme to begin with.... see if that helps to improve traffic flow??? And perhaps some of the smaller and cheaper options, such as walking buses, and some sort of incentive scheme for car sharing? Maybe if just these three ideas could be implemented for six months, and folks could see that it was making a difference, then more people would be on board with spending money on improved cycle routes etc. I think folks need to feel that Hereford is on the right track with improving it's traffic situation.... if it can be shown, that it does indeed make a difference to local travel, they may be more open minded. Whatever plans end up being agreed..... The Southern Link Road must be stopped.
  17. Fabulous Bobby! And I'm amazed there has been no specific mention of eyebrows....?? You yourself have always said that you can never trust a man whose eyebrow hair cannot agree on which way to grow. I have held dear to that notion ever since..... in fact I now live by life by that simple rule. Dubious eyebrows equals dubious character. So far, this rule has stood me in good stead!
  18. Amazing photos, Colin. How come you always seem to be in the right place, at the right time, to capture these moments???
  19. Well....... if the dog has been deliberately struck by a vehicle, and the vehicle belongs to Greenow, and he has been identified as driving it, and there was no livestock in the field..... that's pretty compelling evidence. But, what do I know?? Usually, very little!
  20. An interesting day. The other half is on a rest day. The letterbox went. It was a leaflet from the conservative candidate. It said that they called, and were sorry to have missed the householder. They would have simply loved to have had the opportunity to discuss any local issues. Mindful that my laminated list of questions is still stuck to the back of the front door, and I'm getting quite grumpy that I'm not having much luck grilling the prospective candidates, my other half shut the dog in the garden, went to the front door, opened it and looked out...... fair play to them, they were already five doors down the street - but whoever it was it wasn't even the candidate! No chance of a chat then......! (That stir fry sounds delicious! )
  21. Nice post Jim. Hi Roger, I'm not quite sure I've grasped your post.... it's probably me! It sounds as if you are saying that you would prefer one councillor to be representing The College, and another to represent Aylestone Hill? Surely a good councillor will do his best for constituents regardless of whether they live in a five bed private house, or a rented one bed flat?? There are mixes of housing everywhere! There certainly is in my area! County wide issues, such as traffic, refuse, grass etc. effect everybody, and it doesn't matter what type of property you live in, it still impacts.Local issues should still be local to you and your ward councillor, and your ward councillor should have those at the forefront of his/her mind, when trying to resolve them. Feel free to chip in, if I've misinterpreted your comment, as I said, I've more than likely read it wrong!
  22. How bizarre!
  23. Cllr Greenow is already on thin ice. The previous road traffic accident incident, and the recent planning debacle have not exactly endeared him to many. As Aylestone Voice said, we need to have all facts established. But surely, if any element of this is true, this man should not be standing? Are these really the characteristics we want to see in an elected Cllr? The answer must be, a resounding, No.
  24. Little things do indeed make a difference. And usually, don't have a great cost associated with them. Schools are tricky in some respects, because these days many parents both work, and children end up accessing breakfast clubs at the start of the school day, and after school clubs at the end. However, and forgive me if I've posted this before somewhere, walking buses CAN work! A safe, set route with pick up points along the way. It takes both schools and parents to get on board with this for it to work..... but it absolutely CAN! There are always going to be families for whom this may not be practical, but many Primary aged pupils who live reasonably close to their school could participate, and may even enjoy this method of getting to school. Thinking about the road situation....I don't have a car, and am lucky enough to be able to enjoy a brisk thirty minute walk to work each day. In the winter.....I would much prefer to cycle, as I used to, but don't as the roads around Hereford frighten the life out of me! I am just one person.... but there must be others like me! Perhaps who are currently driving everywhere because the option of cycling isn't really a safe one. Let's give folks options for moving around the city..... it might make a significant difference! But I still think we desperately need a second river crossing...... and for me, it would have to be East.
  25. Hi Colin, I left a comment on this earlier, on the traffic light thread..... local radio had reported it was a nightmare! Ragwert has kindly popped up a link to the HT story.
