Certainly think that some of the city schools could look at the "Walking Bus" options. It has been tried previously at one or two primary schools, but I'm pretty sure they aren't doing it anymore. Basically, it's an escorted walk to school..... picking up children from several points along the way. It does work well in other countries..... notably Australia.... where the weather is a little kinder! With a little planning, and parents and schools prepared to work together, this could work well for quite a few urban primaries.

Hi Glenda, this is why I suggested ALL candidates election literature!
-
I get the whole purdah thing.....I just thought that if the invitation extended to all candidates, of all parties and persuasions, that would be fair? I'm willing to accept that your knowledge of this is more in depth than mine though! Is it OK then, for us bloggers to post election material that we receive?? Surely that must be alright??
-
Is it possible that any of the prospective candidates could post their election leaflets on this thread?? We are all keen to hear your views on what you would like to bring to local politics!
-
Well there's plenty of opposition to it on here, Jean..... and some very good alternative proposals!

I'm glad you found the thread, Jean. It makes for a very useful read doesn't it?

Also Jean, if you type "Southern Link Road Preferred Route" into the search box, you should find some interesting comments about the ancient woodland. Hope that helps!
-
I absolutely endorse that view, AV. Note I said "the majority" of IOC candidates...... If you honestly feel that there is someone who will represent your ward better, then of course you should vote for that person. Getting folks out, and actually voting is the most important thing, so that we have a better representation of what the majority of residents want. My honest opinion of the current cabinet is that they have NOT served Hereford well. They ALL need to go!

Hi Jean, Megilleland has provided a handy link..... he's brilliant! With regard to navigating your way around the forum, I always head straight for the front page, then move around from there! Honestly, there is nobody more uncomfortable with technology than me..... and I have got the hang of it! It's great to have you on board, we are a motley crew on here, but it's a great place to share your views and find information!
-
Indeed, Jon. If we could get Bulmers AND Sun Valley interested in possible sponsorship as well, that could be a very positive step!

Hi Jean, I am worse than useless with technology, so I cannot provide a handy link! Just do a Google search "Hereford Tree Forum" They are easy to find!

Council Leader's pledge: "No More Jobs for the Boys!"

Personally, I think they should offer half the salary, then pay the rest when they have proved themselves. I'm sick to the back teeth of seeing folks swan in, on a huge salary, make mistakes.... serious mistakes.... then swan off again to repeat the same thing somewhere else. It quite simply has to stop. I do not want to google a name, and be horrified at reading what a person has presided over in a different authority. Reward results. Not failure -
Fair point AV. Taking political colours out of the equation...... I guess there is local, "Do what's best for me and my cronies." Then there's local, "Do what's best for my constituents and Hereford as a whole." Many already have a proven track record, one way or the other. It comes down to simple choice between the two types..... for my money, the majority of IOC candidates have the qualities I am looking for in local Councillors.

Absolutely Jean, and welcome to Hereford Voice. Have you contacted The Hereford Tree Forum?? I'm sure they would be very interested to hear what Parsons Brinkerhoff have planned for three ancient Oaks.....

Newton Farm Ward and your choice of Independent candidates.

There is a link to the new boundary map, post 66 on the "Countdown to the General Election" thread. I also asked the question about "unattached" and "Independent" on the "Just who is standing and where?" thread. Glenda has responded on that thread. -
In a word, Denise...... No. Surely Ed should have more pressing things to worry about......??? I was also watching Ed in action this morning, discussing mental health services. I was most interested to hear his views on CAMHS services in particular. He admitted that in a health service where mental health services are the poor relation, CAMHS are the poor cousin of the poor relation. (I have commented previously that CAHMS services in Hereford are an unseen crisis) A well informed woman in the audience seemed better prepared to speak on this hidden, but ever growing problem, than Ed. It didn't exactly fill me with positivist that they would get to grips with this......

Very interesting, Ragwert....thanks for the links! Interesting to note that this project seems to have disappeared off just about everybody's radar...... until a few weeks before elections. I see Ange Tyler is now taking a prominent position in trying to drive this project forward, she is the Independent candidate standing in this ward. I wish her well. Nobody else seems to be motivated to get this sorted!

Well..... the latest I have heard, is that Broadlands School is due to close,(they are being moved onto the Aylestone School site......) and the playgroup, which were based at the school, are now going to use The Whitehouse. Apparently, there are other sources of funding available to this group?? So who actually runs it now?? Is it St. Paul's Church? Is it the Tupsley Community Group? Or something else? And what has happened to all the money raised towards turning it into a "Community Resource?" Any response by those in the know would be appreciated!
-
Thanks for the clarification, Two Wheels. Left turn only into Edgar Street?? Surely this is a ridiculous proposal??
-
That's interesting, Maggie. A friend of mine lives on Edgar Street, and they had been told there was to be a roundabout, pretty much at the end of Prior Street.... where the garage is at the moment??? I wonder if anybody else has heard anything?

Newton Farm Ward and your choice of Independent candidates.

The thing about Glenda is that over the years many of us have questioned, criticized, prodded and poked (and praised where praise is due!)...... yet she ALWAYS gets on here, and does her best to answer. It's this willingness to engage which has really earned my respect. It's no mean feat, jumping into this forum, and leaving yourself wide open.... yet time and time again over the past four years, we have seen that Glenda is one of only a handful of Councillors, prepared to do this regularly. Colin has sent invitations to ALL councillors, making them aware of this forum, and urging them to get involved..... deciding not to join has been their choice. Well now it's OUR choice Let's all make ones that will benefit Hereford as a whole. Glenda does what it says on the tin. I don't always agree with her, but I cannot fault her commitment to her ward and her constituents. We need to use these elections to hang on to the good ones..... sort the wheat from the chaff. A vote for Glenda would be a great start for the residents of Newton Farm. -

Two Wheels..... you said, "Shouldn't that be quicker than Jarvis up B47's drainpipe?" I think I said pretty much the same.....Rat....? Jarvis....? ......Jarvis.....?......Rat....? Is there a noticeable difference.....???!!! -
Newton Farm Ward and your choice of Independent candidates.
dippyhippy replied to bobby47's topic in Newton Farm
Ooh! An "unsubstantiated website"......???? Which one COULD he mean???? Strange that, because if he IS referring to HV, he's had the past four years to get involved with his constituents via this medium! Glenda has a proven track record. If I lived in her ward, she would definitely get my vote. -
Brilliant Green Knight. If we could have our own GP's go back to the on call system, and if surgeries operated patient friendly hours, there would be no need for Taurus or Prime Care......a significant saving to plough back into the NHS.
-
Morning Robert! Thanks for taking the time to post this, and explain your reasons for deciding not to stand again. I can only imagine the frustration you have felt over the past four years. Hopefully come May 7th, the Conservatives which have held the reigns for so long in Hereford will be no more. I wish you well.
