  1. P.S. Thanks to Chris Chappell, for sending the weekly update in for us to read.
  2. Interesting report there, Megilleland. I wonder how much money the council receives each year, from the costs of these permits? I then wonder about the cost of clearing up fly tipping? Perhaps it's time to try something new.... some sort of amnesty, where large items could be taken to the tip without charge? Maybe we should trial it for twelve months. See if this makes a positive difference.
  3. Seven fly tips removed, and another reported to environmental health......I wonder if that was Ubiques sofa????
  4. What a great idea! Is this event squarely aimed at the 18 - 24 age bracket? I really hope that an event such as this would really resonate with younger folks, maybe ones who will be voting for the first time. I think if people start to see the importance of using their vote at a young age, they are more likely to do so in the future. Perhaps this generation will lead the way in turning around the pathetic turn out in numbers we so often see. I truly hope it is well attended, Dan.
  5. Is it not the case that only "works/business" vans need a permit? Basically, anything with sign writing on the side! I thought private ones were ok? There used to be a service, whereby if you had a bulky item, like a sofa/mattress and no means of getting it to the tip, you could request a pick up from the council? I believe there was a small fee for this, but definitely worth it. If this scheme does still operate, it would be well worth highlighting it, as perhaps folks don't realise this is an option.
  6. It strikes me that whoever dumped this sofa, obviously had a vehicle...... Why go to the trouble of loading it into a van, and driving around looking for somewhere to dump it? Why not load it into a van and just drive it to the tip? I just do not understand the thought processes of some folks.

    Hoople

According to Todays report over at HT, the Hoopla split is now imminent. "Finalisation of this strategy - backed by a satisfactory business case - could be delegated to the councils Director of Economy, Community and Corporate, Geoff Hughes."
  8. Thanks for the heads up, Clarkester. I use this field with my dog. I hope your wife is OK.
  9. Hmmm. Not just good. Not just great. They are now in fact..... inspirational. Amazing.
  10. This story has been updated over at HT, and thankfully it would seem that it is finally about to be resolved. Mrs Kidson now has unsupervised access visits, there is an exit plan, and she is certain that her daughter will soon be back at home.
  11. Good news! The little pop up florist which was open in The OLM over Christmas, have opened a proper shop in East Street, opposite Mike Gell, the jewellers. It's a fab little shop, so if you need a bunch of flowers for your Mum on Sunday, may I suggest you call in? It's called The Great British Florist, and their motto is.... "Grown Not Flown." Wishing them every success. Could I also make a plea for folks to support Nutters, in Capuchin Yard, off Church Street? They have noticed a down turn in trade, and I think maybe people sometimes forget they are there. The food is top notch, and if you don't have time to sit down to eat, you can have it as a take away. It's always freshly prepared, uses local produce and the service is warm and friendly. Unfortunately, Studio 25, which had opened at the top of Church Street has closed. A real shame, I thought they would have done well there.
  12. Enough with procedures, partner working, protocols and policies! It's time to get tough....... Send in the hedgehogs!
  13. Ooooh! Spring is just around the corner! Hooray!

  14. Did we get a weekly update.....????
  15. It will be interesting to see if your direct action response, elicits a reply! You could also try adding that you have a crack team of highly trained hedgehogs at your disposal....... and you're not afraid to use them!
  16. First they took my hoover, then they took my cider. Very soon, they'll be no pleasures left in life for me! If they dabble with my hairdryer, I'll never be able to leave the house again without either a hat or a paper bag over my head! Surely all of this meddling in my day to day existence must be an infringement of my human rights??????
  17. Oh it's just a complete nonsense of a situation. I'm sure that the intention is to drive you to distraction with all of this bungling and faffing and passing the buck. Unable to put up with the ineptitude any longer, you'll end up driving this old sofa to the tip yourself. And why doesn't fly tipping come under the localities stewards remit? I would have thought this did???
  18. Welcome Dan! Good to have you here! This is indeed a very interesting thread. I'm sure many of us would be keen to hear your take on things. I look forward to reading your opinion!
  19. Serious stuff, Green Knight. I think perhaps some sort of campaign needs to be mounted by the NHS to highlight the severity of this condition. Whether that be locally, or possibly nationally. In the eighties, the AIDS / HIV television adverts proved a successful tool in educating folks. Maybe a concerted effort needs to be made to bring syphilis to peoples attention?
  20. One of Todays headline stories over at HT..... "Herefordshire Sitting On Syphilis Time Bomb." My, that sounds painful...... Also interesting to note, that within the same report, is an admission that actually, no one knew who was in charge, during the recent Ebola scare. Let's hope a better plan is in place now.
  21. I read this link yesterday afternoon, and would agree with Bobby - it's worth half an hour of anybody's time to give this the once over. Very interesting and thought provoking article.
  22. Has anyone heard whether Roger Phillips one man mission has had any success? He seems to have been completely forgotten about!
  23. What an incredible story, and what a life he's lived. Amazing. We owe this generation so much. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, Ubique. (Apologies for my late response, I have only just seen it.) This gentleman certainly fits the bill of being a noteworthy Herefordian.
  24. Have we raised enough for the advert, Colin? Have you totted up the total?
  25. An interesting list! I don't know about you, Roger..... but the biggest night of the year for me - has and always will be - Maundy Thursday!! Bring it on!
