  1. I understand that her daughter is now sixteen. I would hope this young lady has access to an advocate, to make her views known.
  2. Hmmm. Hopefully someone will be able to sign post a Worcester paramedic to this thread. He spoke out last week on Midlands Today, about the amount of patients on trollies in the corridor, and how procedures such as putting in cannulas (needles) amongst others, are taking place in non clinical areas. Move forward seven days, and he is back talking to Midlands Today, having been banned form both Worcester Royal and Redditch hospitals. Unison say this is clearly victimising a whistleblower. The paramedic had stated to hospital management, his intention to speak about the issues, prior to the television interview.
  3. Brilliant! They really seem to be up and running now!
  4. Tremendous effort, Megileland - truly well done to you! If only there were a few more community minded folks....it would make such a difference!
  5. I really take my hat off to you, Megilleland. You put so much time and effort into trying to sort this out. Well done.
  6. Apparently there has been a police presence since Friday, and the army have carried out a controlled explosion. Police spokesperson says it is not thought to be related to terrorism.
  7. Not much more information available at present.
  8. Houses evacuated, and a man arrested.
  9. Afternoon Alex! I appreciate you taking the time to clarify that! Thanks!
  10. Hi Megilleland! I have just read your post, about the HCS meeting, on another thread, and wondered the same thing! I am sure this group would have a better idea than most how to prioritise spending the money available.
  11. Hi Maggie May, welcome to Hereford Voice! I agree, events such as The Three Choirs Festival, are a real showcase for Herefordshire, and due care when planning things such as roadworks, needs to be taken. Let's hope that come May, we have folks voted in who see the importance of forward thinking!
  12. Hi Alex....for the record, I don't have an issue with our wonderful bin men, I think they do a fantastic job, I don't believe I have ever said any differently. You are correct....six bags will block the pavement equally as much as a wheely bin, causing just as much a problem.....but when the collections were weekly, LESS bags were put out, and this issue was not as obvious. I am actually in favour of fortnightly collections.....but there are problems coming to light now, which few people seemed to have taken into consideration. Pavement access for pedestrians being one of them. As I said, this isn't just down to refuse, it's also inconsiderate parking, and cyclist who persist on riding on the pavements! (My apologies to Smartieno1, for taking this thread away from your original post.)
  13. Coincidentally, this very issue of pavement blocking was highlighted on a news item yesterday evening. This was mostly regarding cars partly parking on pavements....but equally applies to cyclists and an army of wheely bins! The report showed how folks with visual impairments and their trusty guide dogs are struggling to navigate their way safely around many obstacles blocking their path. It also stated that a large proportion of wheelchair users and parents with prams/buggies, find themselves having to walk in the road. This is the problem,( H Wilson, M. Preece and Alex), which I was attempting to highlight in my earlier post......nothing to do with adverse weather conditions, being neighbourly, apportioning blame, or using common sense. Try navigating the pavements of Whitecross blindfolded, and you'll quickly realise why I am concerned about this.
  14. In addition, Topshop will be closing it's doors for good quite soon. Leaving another empty unit in Maylords. It's interesting to see, Colin, that you started this thread just over a year ago with a count up of the empty premises. It would perhaps be an idea, to repeat this exercise, and compare the two figures??
  15. It is a shame. However, to balance that.....two new shops have opened in Widemarsh Street recently. A stationary/craft shop, and also the guys who own Berry Red up Church Street, have opened a second shop. In Church Street itself, another couple of new shops have opened....and when I walked down earlier, it does appear that all premises are now open and trading, which is brilliant! The guys who had the tobacco stand in the Butter market, who had taken over the shop on the corner of Widemarsh Street and Bewell Street have now moved BACK to the Buttermarket. They told me that although footfall was good, it was just too expensive to stay there.
  16. There are "Closing Down Sale" posters up in the windows of Milletts in Eign Gate. Anyone know anything about this??
  17. This is brilliant news for High Town, although the cynic in me, as alluded to by others, thinks the timing of this announcement is more to do with political point scoring in the run up to elections! Whatever the case, I welcome it. I wonder where they will prioritise?? Certainly agree that landlords need to be tackled....along with the River Island building, many, many others are looking extremely shabby. The Chadds buildings, for example, has needed a darn good clean up for quite some time. A lick of paint, and a little pride in the appearance of shop fronts would not cost a lot, but would have a very positive impact! One relatively small change, would be to improve the seating areas in both High Town and Eign Gate. Although they are fairly recent additions, the metal benches are horrendous. No back support for the elderly, freezing cold to sit on, and generally very uncomfortable to perch upon.
  18. Just spotted your post, Two Wheels. This is staggering. Breathtaking. Please, tell me this man isn't standing again???? And if he has the brass neck to, in Gods name lets all hope he doesn't retain his seat. This man has an awful lot to answer for.
  19. Hi Bobby! Happy New Year to you too mate! What do you mean.....back to work????? As if I haven't been!!!! I have been busy blogging since the start of the year, whilst you were on your hols!!! Hope you've come back with a decent tan, and a thirst for a beer and a catch up soon! (Apologies for going off topic.) Brilliant link,by the way Roger!
  20. I would be interested to have it clarified, whether it is the householders responsibility to move wheelie bins back off the pavement, as there are many streets in Whitecross that are becoming increasingly difficult to navigate, because they are left out. I was under the impression that they should be on the boundary of properties, and not blocking pavements. In a lot of the side streets, you have to walk in the road. Not great, and not easy to return to the relative safety of the pavement if you are disabled, elderly, or have a pram, with the majority of the area having to use on street parking!
  21. I find some of the changes that have been made to the online pages a real nuisance. You can no longer see (without clicking onto a story) if a news item has comments enabled, whether there are any comments, or if those number of comments have increased. (The same with the letters page, which in the good old days, would also generate a fair few comments.) The page seems to take an eternity to load, with my lack of technical expertise, I have no ad-blocker, so trying to navigate around them is a nightmare. All in all it's too much like hard work - not user friendly at all. However...purely because I would hate to lose our one surviving local paper, I do buy it, in the hope that one day, things will improve.
  22. Thanks for the links, Smartieno1, they have made for an interesting read - most informative!
  23. What brilliant news you post, GDJ! I am always delighted to see credit given where it's due.
  24. It's a speculative invoice - not enforceable! As others have said, ignore it.....and do NOT pay! Welcome to Hereford Voice, by the way....hope these replies put your mind at rest a little!
  25. I would agree there, Glenda! I've always found in life generally, that good manners, and treating folks with respect, go a long way! Neither cost a penny, yet are priceless.
