Tony Johnson Tells H & W Radio Building On Football Ground
dippyhippy replied to chrisbull's topic in Open Forum
Hi Chris Bull, December1st approaches.....any news yet, or do we have to wait a few days longer?? Given the recent news......I just had to ask!! -
Sooooo.........why isn't a proposal such as this being considered?? I do think this route would have a significant impact on alleviating Herefords crippling traffic issues, I also feel that it is preferable to demolishing ancient woodland, which is irreplaceable. I would be very interested to see a cost comparison between this, and the proposed route. In order to make a decision, folks need to see the actual facts and figures.

And it's precisely this sort of construction that would allow The Lugg Flatts to rejuvenate and recover! From an environmental perspective, this has got to be better, than what has been proposed. As I said in an earlier post on this thread,(post number 72,page3.) as soon as the words "bypass" and "Lugg Flats" are uttered in the same sentence, folks start jumping up and down - but there ARE ways around it......or over it......which would work. Certainly worth careful consideration, I would have thought.

It reminds me of that old dilemma, would you sleep with a stranger for a million quid?? Yes I would! But.....this would only really effect me, and have no impact on other folks. "But what about your long suffering other half?" I hear you cry......trust me, for a million quid and the chance to retire, they would be all for it! And if the boot was on the other foot, and it was my other half who was offered this once in a lifetime chance? Believe me, I could live with it.......and in the nicest possible way, it would all be over in a matter of minutes! (I jest of course!) -
No detailed reponse, I'm afraid Bilbo bobby, but we do have a member on here who is from the environmental/trading standards team.....I think they are all under one "heading" these days. Quite often if there is something he can add to a debate, he will post.He also updates us on things like shops/premises being raided, and provides a lot of factual detail, which is always useful! You never know, he may add his thoughts to this if it's within his departments remit!!

I don't know the ins and outs, Slim, but I guess it all comes down to money and numbers. Just how many houses would they need to sell, to make putting in that type of infrastructure viable?? Hereford does need affordable housing, but it doesn't need huge developments. We need to have a long, hard look at what we currently have, and decide if there are better ways of utilising it........maybe???

Excellent points about school children. Remember also that these days, children often have to fit in around parents/grandparents working hours. Gone are the days when you would leave for school with a peck on the cheek from your mum, and a nice packed lunch. These days many mums also work. Children are dropped off early to access "breakfast clubs" and remain in school longer to attend "after school clubs". The school day can be significantly longer for many, right from the minute they embark on their educational journey.

Fantastic!! Nuts and the like, sounds right up my street! -
Hi Greenknight, yes you are quite correct, they have recently closed many of the outlying stations such as Kington, Ross etc, and moved towards having Hereford as the main hub for crews to work out from.......... this isn't always working!( Don't get me started on response times, unnecessary calls, and emergency cover for Herefordshire, when crews are diverted to Birmingham!) I don't want to go off at too much of a tangent (which I often do!) as there are other threads this is being discussed on! That said, with both fire and police actively looking for new premises, I do wish they would consider a shared space! Does the fact that you are responding to my posts mean that you have accepted my grovelling apology x 2????

As an aside to your post GreenKnight, if the OLM is a success, (and I still maintain it is still early days to call it either way) then why are the franchise staff in Debenhams so worried that they are missing their predicted sales targets? Footfall does not equal spending!

Your honesty makes for a refreshing read, Stupid Frustration! I can but dream of what it would be like to earn that sort of money, maybe when folks earn less, they are more likely to take the view, "Jesus! They don't pay me enough to put up with this sort of crap!" So aren't/haven't been put in that position. Many moons ago, when I was juggling three jobs, I did work somewhere where I was extremely unhappy at some of the working practises, and staffing levels. I left, reported my concerns, and was told by staff that remained that things did improve significantly. It was a very low paid job, taken to fit in around other work commitments, and financially necessary at the time. But even so, I couldn't turn a blind eye, or view it as somebody else's problem! Once you've discovered something, it's nigh on impossible to pretend it isn't there - well, for me anyway! But I am a very meddlesome individual!! -

Interesting one, Flam! I have never, nor am ever likely, to earn 90k a year. I earn considerably less than that, so can only answer from my own perspective! No, no, no and no again in response to your questions! In fact, I can say hand on heart, that if ever I was put in a position where I had to even consider doing any of the things on that list, I would be writing a letter of resignation, and shouting the reasons why from the top of the multi storey car park, to anyone who would listen! -
I don't think there are any plans for a new ambulance station are there, Hillbilly? They have just finished a much needed programme of updating works at the Ross Road station, and have various standby points across the county. Notably Cargills, as one of their community initiatives, have given crews a rest room and standyby point there. Hence crews respond from points both north and south of the river. The police and fire service however, are a more complex issue..........!!

That's a really interesting post, John. Whenever I am extolling the virtues of having an IOC council leading the way, the first thing folks say to me is, "Ah, but we'll never geta bypass if they're in power!" So to hear you say that it is a conversation they are wanting to have is great news. I honestly feel that East would be the only route that should be considered, for any sort of joined up transport plan.

Police and Crime Commissioner won't stand again
dippyhippy replied to Roger's topic in Police & Crime
If I was Bill Longmore, weighing up my health issues, and the stresses and strains involved with this role, I too would announce in 2014 that I would not be standing again in 2016. But then again, if I was Bill Longmore, I would think two years was too long, and I would stand down immediately. I can't understand why he hasn't. Somebody remind me what the salary for this job is again............. Maybe there are seventy five thousand reasons why he'd like to remain in post a little longer....... -
Hi Jim! Has this meeting taken place yet, and if so, is there any additional information about the future of this building? If not, is there a firm date scheduled for it to be discussed? Many thanks!
