  1. Eight bags??? Good grief, Ubique! That is unbeLEAFable!! Well done you - Mrs Ubique will be delighted!
  2. Mindful that not all facts may be in the public arena, two questions do spring to mind. The first and obvious one, is why it is taking so long for this mother to be reunited with her child, when she has been cleared of any wrong doing. The second, is why this child was ever placed within the care system in the first place. Why wasn't she placed with her father, who is the person who initially raised concerns?
  3. Of all the things that are worthy of a complaint, trees shedding leaves shouldn't make the list! Honestly, if the council can put forward a case that by chopping it down it will save them £12.83, over the next five years.......they'll have those chainsaws out, quicker than you can imagine!
  4. If the above comment is typical of the quality of comments left, then I'm not surprised that The Hereford Times pulled it. This sort of offensive remark adds nothing to a debate. There is a need for sensible, rational discussion to take place. This sort of comment ticks neither box. In my humble opinion, the minute name calling is resorted to, the argument is lost.
  5. This is all sounding good! I think I would have far more faith in this group steering High Town forward. They actually seem to have the experience and know how to get things moving!
  6. Yes Megilleland! It's this idea that is ringing bells with me! When I get more time on the weekend, I shall endeavour to find out a bit more!
  7. What "appropriate arrangements" do they think will be needed to be put in place? Surely the very fact that it is a public meeting, and presuming signage is put up alerting folks to the fact that they may be filmed, what else would be required? I will be very interested to hear what definition they come up with for "disruptive." Perhaps this needs putting to the test.......find out where the line is drawn!
  8. I think I know what you are referring to, we have crossed wires here, I should have been clearer in my post. I was thinking about Paul Cardin, being labelled as this, whilst attempting to gain information using The Freedom of Information Act.
  9. Hmmmm. I'm not quite so sure that the lovely lady who sells beautiful scarves at the Wednesday market, and pays for her pitch would agree with your comment about the pashminas! I agree, they are just trying to get by.....isn't that what we are all trying to do - but if you are selling items so similar to other traders whose trading costs are significantly higher, that surely can't be a fair system.
  10. Hi Stilton, and welcome to Hereford Voice! This is interesting, because once again the label of "vexatious" seems to be used in an attempt to stop folks from getting to the truth. Councils now seem fond of this term as well....... It's a worrying trend.
  11. Forgive me, Bilbobobby, I got sidetracked! I think they very much have an advantage, which I feel is unfair to the shops and also the Wednesday and Saturday market traders. Events such as the farmers market and antique market are brilliant, and I'm sure are a real draw for folks, and I expect they have to pay a fair whack for that as well. I am looking forward to the Christmas craft fair which is due in December......that always pulls a crowd!
  12. Very informative posts, Roger - thanks for that. I have to say that I find the street traders less of an issue than the charity workers who want you to hand over your bank details! I actually avoid walking through High Town when they are around, opting to walk through Maylords, down Widemarsh Street, then down Bewell Street, just to avoid them! This stops me calling in at Marks and Sparks, but at least I can still use the back door of The Butter market to nip in for my veggies!
  13. So, they all still claim to know nothing, or can't remember if they were. How extremely convenient. Well done Bill, for keeping at this - I'm sure there are quite a few who would like this story to disappear. I would have hoped that this whole debarcle would have been brought before the scrutiny committee, and can't quite understand why it isn't.
  14. Hi Cloudberry, thanks for responding so quickly! My thoughts mirror yours with regard to the ancient woodland. I was wondering whether from an environmental point of view, it would be possible to put forward the case that to go East, and then across the Lugg Flats would in the long term be far less destructive, than this proposed route. Whenever The Lugg Flats get mentioned as a possible route, folks seem to jump up and down, and shout no, no! As you have said in your post, this area does have the ability to regenerate and recover, whereas the ancient woodland does not. To me, not only is East more cost effective, and will cause less long term environmental damage, it also links up with the other transport plans for the area with the railway, and of course, the Sustrans cycle path. Nobody seems to have taken an "overall" picture of this Southern Link Road plan. I'll see if I can find out a bit more about York!
  15. I would be very interested to know if The Butter market traders have put forward a business case. Can anybody enlighten me?
  16. Hi Cloudberry! Do you know anything about the road scheme in York? I'm sure I recall reading something, somewhere that they had a by pass which would mean crossing land which has significant similarities to our own Lugg Flats. They achieved this, and studies showed that within I think it was five years, the natural habitat was flourishing once more. I just wondered if you, or any other poster knew anything about this??
  17. It is little touches like this, marks of respect, that mean so much to folks. A very worthwhile thing to have organised, Councillors.
  18. Well done Jim for highlighting this. I'm quite astonished that in this, the first years Christmas trading, The OLM have caused this divide between the old and the new. It kind of speaks volumes. So much for bringing the Hereford shopping experience together.......... I shall vote with my feet, and opt for High Town!
  19. I think the idea of benches commemorating those who gave their lives, is wonderful, particularly so in this, the centenary year. I would hope they are treated with respect. A lovely and thoughtful tribute.
  20. Hi Mystery! It's predictable isn't it - the problem shifts to just around the corner. The colleges really need to take a more serious look at this issue.
  21. Fantastic news! That said, we could well see an increase in these sort of precautionary measures, and a good job too. We cannot afford to be complacent about this very real threat. However, being vigilant does not mean being hysterical!
  22. I've upped you Ragwert. As Biomech said, perhaps your posting style wasn't quite hitting the mark. I would still be interested to hear where you heard A and E was closed, as staff I spoke to today, didn't know this???
  23. I visited the hospital today, and it is very much business as usual. There is no atmosphere of chaos or concern, just care and consideration to patients and visitors alike.
  24. Tee Hee Hereford man 75, that picture made me chuckle! Hi Ubique, don't you worry about Biomechs grass clippings, I have given this some thought. I intend to ask him to pm me his address, and I shall send him a couple of Herefordshire Council approved green bags. I shall call it a Christmas gift! Merry Christmas Biomech! Just what you always wanted!
